While I highly doubt that lootboxes will actually come to GTA Online, the subject of lootboxes has been a controversial hot topic in gaming these days. So I just had to ask, would you still play GTA Online if lootboxes came to the game?

Voted yes, and I'd probably buy a few too.

The only thing that would stop me from playing GTA Online is the deletion of my characters.

Wastelander (Suzuki)

We already have lootboxs, it's called the magic of Special Cargo/Vehicles.

I probably would.

Now, whether or not I'd buy a lootbox depends on what it'll give me!

Not sure, I guess it depends on how it works. If guns, clothes or cars start having having performance perks, then probably not.

That bullsh*t really slows down NFS payback.

Genuinely feel I'd not like to see this ever, but I'd have to know what it entails with the possibilities here.

Loot boxes that could by chance give game altering advantages, I'd not be interested. Indeed, research was too much for me. I'd hate to see it return.

Cosmetics and things. Not so worried, but I would still like chances to earn them through unlocks or timed events like here still. (The Christmas T-Shirt give away of late, that sort of thing I've no issues with, you know).

The good thing about these cash cards is content isn't exclusive to them. But I do feel the game is a grind in areas because of them. If we go back to a IGG 1/2 era where the cards didn't drive prices so much and we only had a few really expensive parts, like 'end game purchases' I do feel they can balance the grind and cards, and that'd suit me.

If I could get special vehicles, weapons, money or clothing yes I would. It would probably give me more reason to play.

Nope, buying virtual things just to have it temporarily until the game shuts down? Nah i don't think so, this game won't last forever when gta VI comes the online also moves, that's why i never did a microtransactions such a waste of money...

I can explain, if you're around my age this might ring a bell...

Except lootboxes cost dollars not coins. Do you see the yellow bubble in the middle? Now image the car you want in GTAO is in that yellow bubble.

Now you know what lootboxes are.

If it's just cosmetic items that give no advantage to gameplay, it wouldn't bother me.

If my gameplay is restricted due to loot boxes then the game would be on the shelf quite quickly.

I don't know how they can implent those lootboxes in GTA in direct, but they already done something like - Researches from GR, and it's the maximum they can do in this field.

Yeah. If it's something like crates but with more variety. I notice most people voted no to lootboxes, so how would you feel if the casino opened?

Edit: Oh, you're talking about lootboxes you have to buy with real money? Y'know those aren't the only type of lootboxes.

But as long as they don't affect prices of other stuff in the game, they're really no different than shark cards, in that you can pay for time/effort. And the gambling aspect wouldn't be any different from if the casino opened. I'm surprised the game doesn't already have lootboxes. But I guess Rockstar either thinks they'd be too divisive to include this late in the game or see them as unnecessary since we already have shark cards.

Unless people misread the question, I am astonished indeed that some anger over loot boxes could actually stop people from playing at all. As of now, question goes after playing at all, should loot boxes be introduced

Whether I dig into the idea of loot boxes, like with shark cards, depends on the quality of the deal R* is offering in particular. Since the game in any case is working for me without, this certainly won't keep me from playing.

As to casino gameplay, there are several ways for R* to make casinos absolutely gaming-free, and legally water tight (I will not go into this discussion), but I understand the concerns.

Reactions concerning a casino rollout would go anyway like this:

Spoiler

Actually I'm sure most people wouldn't stop playing despite hating lootboxes. Look at all the people who hate shark cards - which have been here since day one - but still play even though they keep talking about quitting.

I'm really tempted to say, in my best Kip voice (from Napoleon Dynamite), "you're mom has a lootbox."

But I won't, because it's lame.

If prices of items were NOT increased in order to make the sale of these boxes more appealing and they only gave things like clothing, I wouldn't care.

If it was vehicles or weapons readily available for purchase with in-game dollars the regular way, I'd find that stupid but it wouldn't ruin my experience.

If it was exclusive items that I like, that would be annoying. Things like special car models. But still restricted to items that don't give players an edge in combat or anything like special armed vehicles.

Just "collectible" vehicles.

Crossing the line and adding stuff you can only get from loot boxes that give those players an advantage in any way would not be acceptable. But I tend to play GTA:O in private sessions. Or public sessions filled with crewmembers.

If I were ever to leave the crew (don't plan on doing that anytime soon, though - unless I get kicked from some mysterious reason) I certainly would not spend any more time doing public PvP fighting and that's already about nothing.

Basically, I would dislike Rockstar (more?) and it would make me think twice about buying more of their products but a game in which my personal experience is barely affected? I'd still keep playing GTA:O.

The point of me considering not playing the game anymore would only be reached if prices were blown up even further, existing items made exclusive to boxes, non-item exclusives added to them like in-game bonuses (damage, movement speed, abilities like teleportation) and stuff like that. And in that case, I refer you to what I said above. I often play privately and would likely continue to do so. Finding some friends online and inviting them to play in invite only sessions for private jobs, activities and free mode fun without interference from others. I've also slowly amassed a half decent amount of cash that I wouldn't want to go to waste by abruptly quitting the online game.

EDIT: Long story short, I find it very disappointing when developers go this way. But I gotta be honest about it, in this particular case a LOT would have to happen to make me stop playing.

EDIT 2: Would have not voted in the poll because it depends on how exactly the game is changed with implementation of the "feature" but I voted yes instead since having lootboxes in the game doesn't automatically mean I'll stop playing. In other words, the possibility of me playing the game with them in it does exist.

Cackling Jack

Hmm yeah I’d still play. Loot boxes I would not buy them mainly because I used to play battlefield games and all I got out of them were skins for guns. Just imo.

I would just glitch that much harder. When Rockstar gets more aggressive on the money front two can play that game.

Edit: Loot boxes you have to buy with real money I'd just ignore.

However, the more they do this the more they push me away from purchasing Red Dead or the next GTA.

f*ck no. Loot boxes are the one thing you can add to a game to make damn sure I'll never play it.
