For me, Grand Theft Auto is sarcasm and humor first together with immersion, and everything else second, and Rockstar nail it almost every single time with their humor thanks to the fact that it takes place in the USA. The over exaggerations, the stereotypes, the little jokes, almost all of these things rely on that. If they're able to pull it through with another setting too, then yes, absolutely, but I think it still wouldn't be the same, because the USA is pretty much the most known country in the whole world, with its pros and especially its flaws, so it works good for them because people all over the world can get the context of the humor.

Yes because they haven't explored America to its fullest.

Tricky question. I'd love a city outside of the US as long as we still have another city that IS in the US

I'd love to hear Spoof Radio Stations in a language other than English: perhaps German, Italian and French

So i think it'd definitely work

To me a GTA set outside US without the humour from that non-US country would suck a lot

Most of the community outside US would probably want at least one GTA to be set in their country, just like me, I'd like one GTA to be in Croatia (or Balkan + Croatia), but it will never happen even though it would, like many countries, be a good location, because of the beautiful beaches, the countryside, mountains, etc.

I still think it would be fun even if it was outside the US, but it wouldn't feel like Grand Theft Auto.

To be honest, I personally would Love to see a GTA game at least in Canada, mainly because canada is turning into a hell hole where everything is Super expensive compaired to stuff in the USA.

Allow me to explain: Right now we canadians have a retarded Liberal as our country's leader (big problem to canada) & there are a lot of cities full of crime such as: Bank robberies, cop shootouts, terrorist attacks, Etc.

So to answer the question if gta would be fun Outside the usa: Yes, it would be.

It would be hilarious seeing a GTA in Dublin because I think there could be so much for story and satire for Ireland as a whole, but the map would just be too small. The city just wouldn't be big enough and you'd never be able to steal a bus because they never turn up 😂 I do think it would be interesting to base one in London and have something like Liverpool/Manchester and Dublin as extra cities on the map like San Andreas has Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Yes but I think Rockstar has been very clear about that GTA won't be settled outside of the US.

I prefer having it in America but I do believe it could still be fun.

London worked, and yes, while it was 2D and a GTA I expansion, it was still a lot of fun to play and I would be curious about a 3D setting now.

There are other places too such as Japan, Canada, Ireland, etc which could be fun, however, in order to play it safe, they could release as part of the GTA V Era similar to Vice City and San Andreas were part of the III Era and EFLC was the IV Era, that way if it doesn't work, they know GTA VI will probably make up for it as it's probably planned to be in the USA.

I want London. If the 2D version had potential, the expanded and detailed 3D version will just work fine.

GTA3 and GTA4 Liberty City was worked into 2D (or 2.5D specifically). It turned into more square-ish and had some parts butchered or simplified. So the standard is there.

And let's just say Rockstar will have a lot to play around there as much as they do with US.

Depends, but i want that GTA series still sets in America, and i don't think that a country outside U.S. (even London that had a apperance in 2D Universe in both GTA London 1969 and 1961) are gonna have a apperance/reapperance in HD universe.
Here in Brazil, they have a huge quantity of fans of the series. Some of them (or a majory, i guess) wanted/wants a GTA that takes place here in my homecountry, especially in Rio de Janeiro (note: I live in São Paulo). When this is not happening (and also i don't think will be a thing), fans here created a Brazilian mod for GTA San Andreas. And they created had a project that is very good, called 171, that takes place in Brazil, is just like an brazillian GTA :D Unfortunaly this games doens't have a release date

Of course. There's nothing uniquely or inherently American about GTA. It's time for other countries to get the GTA treatment. I want to see British culture satirized in the same manner as America's was.

I hope the next GTA will set in Uzbekistan or Azerbaijan after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 90's, I've been dreaming about this for a long time

Uhm, yes. Obviously. A more valid question would be "Can GTA still be fun IN the US?". The answer is obviously yes. But way less obvious than on this question...

Like what would be more awesome than a modern GTA London?

Other places I really want to see: Rio, Rome/Italy, Beijing/other Chinese cities, Moscow... heck with the scale these days, why not do like GTA Europe? It would have it all.

Obviously I'm not saying they "should" be done with America but I feel this question is very... American. Who said the focus should be on American cities?

Frankly I'm not interested in anything outside the US.

I mean London would be cool.... but Watch Dogs 3 is rumored to be set there.

I went with yes, but just how much, I dunno.

I mean, some players of GTA V/O from LA must love seeing their city in a GTA way. And as a brit that knows London well enough, it would be pretty damn cool to visit locations and such.

Could work for me, but the whole exaggerated America is great fun too.

A crazy Third World city, where even the normal traffic obeys no rules, would be good. Somewhere like Bangkok or Cairo or Delhi.

Yeah there is..wtf. Satirizing American culture is a huge part of GTA.  Take that away and you strip a big part of its identity.

The thing is, this part of its identity is mostly understood and perceived by Americans, players who don't live in US probably don't think about it too much.

I have 2 friends outside of US(Asia)  who also agree that GTA's identity has a close bond with America

The only possibility of having a non-American city in a GTA is to make two cities : an American city with an American character to keep the base of the series and a foreign city

It could bring freshness while keeping the basics and the satirical potential would be even greater with an American in a foreign country

Errrr no, not at all.

I live in the UK, and I've been playing GTA for 18 years since GTA III. I identify GTA with American cities/locations, and nowhere else, I have always had this opinion. Anywhere other than the USA and GTA pretty much loses it's trademark identity.

I can see them throwing in a border town, but personally the game that parodizes us naive and narcist americans is not going to spend millions on a game not catering to specifically their entitled americans. So its very unlikely guys, dont take it offensive. See it ass flaw in americans because a lot people won't take a driving game serious if the driving side is flopped for an example. Sorry guys we are petty, but we make good games.

There's still a bunch of American cities they can do. Philadelphia, Boston, and Atlanta is what I'd like to see if they went somewhere new. There's more to the US than just New York, Florida, and California y'know...

Philadelphia- The city of brotherly love and a generally sh*tty place. Seriously it's the only place that really acts like a GTA city irl. There is a ton of rich history in Philadelphia with the declaration of independence and all that stuff they could parody. Not to mention how crazy they are for their sports teams where they get violent. The city also has a lot of crime and they could explore the street gangs there or The Mafia. Throw in Camden, New Jersey  across the bridge hell add more parts of Jersey I want to see them add Atlantic City, NJ with all the casinos and just because it's close also add Wilmington, Delaware. It could work.

Boston - Like Philadelphia, Boston has a lot of history and crime.  You could do something with the Irish gangs maybe a cousin of the Mccreary family or some other Irish family.

Atlanta- it's a very important city Economically in the US. Lots of important US companies are based there and It's also very ghetto. Add in more parts of Georgia with the rednecks and hillbillies to parody the entire Southern US. The only real problem would be the time period. I dont want to see another modern GTA for a while and Atlanta works best in modern day.

I'm just scratching the surface there's a bunch of other cities in the US that could work.

The stuff GTA makes fun of isn't stuff you wouldn't know about in other countries.

I'd like London or Vice City for the next game.

Atlanta could work well given its international prominence due to The Walking Dead, they could add sceneries of TWD and allusions to the series. I also like that Redneck stuff. The lack of an ocean might be a problem though.

Yes it would but it doesn’t have to be either or. Follow the Red Dead Redemption model by having a main American setting and a non-American one.
