πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί FIFA World Cup 2018 πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί

It's bizarre what's happened to that Germany team. In 2014 we all thought they were gonna dominate as the team was young, but they look shambolic at the moment. Zero pace, lack of depth in midfield, defensively woeful, the lack of a top striker. All the credit to Korea for going for it even though qualification was out of their hands.

Β

Also, fantastic use of VAR. If that goal hadn't been given it would have been a massive error.

SanΓ©, yes, GΓΆtze, no. Werner bad, nope, though possibly true for this tournament. I think Werner is a good striker. But we all have our own opinions. I just wish Zlatan would have been part of the Sweden team, then the entertainment value would've at least been guaranteed. I'm really not going to watch Sweden - Switzerland.

AndyGanteks

Yeah for this tournament only, he didn't impress me at all, and for his club he plays really well. Maybe Germany should play with 2 strikers, Werner and one other and then he'd have more space.

TheRipperOfLagoZancudo

As if Brazilians should be celebrating Germany getting out. Ya'll aint winning sh*t either. Congrats South Korea and best of luck going forward to Sweden and Mexico.Β

Well, it was a long shot for the Serbs. Didn't play badly by any means. There was a huge spell of pressure where they should have made it count.

Β

Would have loved to have seen them get through, now the wife will have to fully support England.Β πŸ˜‰

Man this really ruined my day. What an embarrassing performance from the team. I think the players & LΓΆw just aren't hungry anymore. It felt like they didn't even try.

The only time in this tournament where they played OK was the second half against Sweden, everything else was horrible and disappointing.

Β

Hopefully we can recover soon, LΓΆw will probably go.

Thank god for this genius or watching Argentina would be completely devoid of pleasure.

Literally the only reason I care about Argentina progressing. I want to see Messi shine more and see more greatness like this

I don't know what's up with the German team. No one I know expected this result. We were all optimistic during the day before the match. We believed in our team that they get their sh*t together and beat S. Korea because we always reached the last 16 (until today).Β

Β

I think most of the players are still satedΒ from winning the cup 2014 and therefore lacked motivation. Also I think that Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Klose leftΒ the team hurt us more than LΓΆw would admit.Β

Β

I just hope none of our old European rivals is gonna get the cup. Gonna root for the Asian and South American teams now. But not for Brazil. 😏

Β

We'll be back.

I predicted Argentina will win the World Cup in the prediction thread because it is simply right due to Messi, not because it's the best prediction. I don't really think someone can ever be better than Messi at football actually, and he should be World Champion. The genuine favorite before the tournament IMO is Spain. Last match they were not good engh either though. Actually Belgium impressesΒ me most right now.

To get back to Germany, they should've played like this this tournament:

Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Neuer
KimmichΒ  Boateng Hummels Hector
Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β Emre Can
Β  Β  Β  Β  GundoganΒ  Β  Β  Β  Kroos
Γ–zilΒ  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β MΓΌllerΒ  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  SanΓ©

MΓΌller as false nine.

One word sums up that Germany result... schadenfreude.

The main problem with the German team was their finishing was mostly awful & Gomez & Muller are well & truly past it.

Β

Players like Ozil & Khadira are very overrated & also past it & should be dropped,Β & they just generally have not reinvented their style or players from 2014Β sufficiently to be contenders.

Β

Also, young players like Draxler Brandt Gortenkza etc whilst good are certainly not at their potential peak.Β Β

Β

Β

Β

Β

Ha! Did not see that coming, though prematch had been hoping for a Mexico and South Korea victories to see South Korea through, but I'll take the Germans being knocked out shamefully.

Β

This World Cup has been very entertaining, indeed.

Β

For Germany, they didn't seem as hungry to win as they did 4 years ago, they lacked a proper true finisher upfront, and I don't know what else. They created chances, but weren't clinical enough. It happens.

Β

Brazil also through despite that turd Neymar again trying to get the Oscar for best acting, because holy sh*t his rolling around the field is ridiculous. Shameful, embarrassing. I wish that FIFA's next innovation would be something to put a stop to playacting and diving, perhaps with stronger enforcement of yellow cards for simulations and whatnot. Would be great to see that douche sit out some matches until he learns to not roll around like a diva.

Β

Now last day of groups, I predict Belgium to finish second so they can avoid an encounter with Brazil early on, and I'm hoping for Japan to at least draw with Poland to secure qualification.

TheRipperOfLagoZancudo

They do need to do something about that diving twat. I've found it hard to root for the Brazilians since my beloved Ronaldinho wasnt called up for 2010 South Africa :(

Sneaky Queeky

The diving is bad but worse is Neymar's pitch perfect impression of Alexis Sanchez. I don't think I can watch him cut inside from the left and dribble right into three defenders one more time without screaming!

He did it a lot in his last season at Barcelona and was often criticized for it (believe it or not that game against PSG was NOT the Neymar we got every week in Spain) but it seems more obvious to me when he plays for Brazil as he is their talisman.

While it is sad the world champions departed last night, the performance deserved the result.

Going out through fair play rules. That's gonna suuuuck.

AndyGanteks

They really gotta change this yellow cards rule for the next big competition...

I should have just watched the Panama game, good lord.

Β

England barely made any attempts to do anything the entire game. Belgium actually looked like they wanted it in the 2nd half.

Β

Easier draw for England, but it's England, so probably a loss against Colombia after all of this.

Hope that lossΒ didn't kick the winds out of our sale. Though our first team is almost entirely rested (we made 8 changes), momentum could have been lost. It's one of those things where if it goes well against Columbia it's all part of the plan but if goes wrong it's a huge error, regardless if we rested our the majority of our first eleven.

Β

Also, Rashford should have made it 1-1. Not the first team he's opted to shoot when he should have passed recently, something that's not helped by the fact that his finishing is average. As a United fan I wanna see him set the world alightΒ but he's starting to show signs that he's gonna be nothing more than a slightly more competent Danny Welbeck.

Rashford doesn't seem to have the chipping technique down to make good finishes consistently. That chance he missed was pretty horrible. But Sterling misses a lot of chances as wel, and doesn't have good finishing either. Thank god for Harry Kane amirite?

No Kane no party innit. Or Stones, it would seem too.

What do you think would be the best tie breaker after points, goal difference, and goals scored?Β
