Β because everything else sucked ffs

Which implies there were only bad games. A completely valid interpretation.

England played decently today. They had heaps of chances but, again, squandered them all. A shame.

Β

Belgium is frightening on the counter though! Really damn fast and accurate with their passing. They should have gone past the French, but oh well! At least their team will be at their peak in 2022, so there's a lot of hope for them. Still, best position for Belgium in a world cup.

I'll be watching the Cup tomorrow morning with everybody else, but I'm only a casual American football fan who doesn't otherwise follow the game very closely, so I was wondering if my European counterparts have any opinions on the CONIFA league since I recently saw this little documentary. Didn't know this thing existed, pretty interesting concept.

A decent showing. Not a lot you can do when you have Hazard running at Phil Jones. Expecting him to seal his transfer to Madrid this summer, Hazard that is, lol.

Β

Looking forward to seeing what progress England can make heading towards the Euro's.

Me too, I didn't expect to see England going so further in this weird World Cup, but I didn't like the "It's coming home" song after the match against Sweden.Β Considering that the semifinals and the final of Euro 2020 will be at Wembley, it could be a big incentive for England... But as you can see I'm Italian and, considering the fact that I've watched this World Cup only as a spectator, I hope that our national team will be able to do something good in the Nations League and in Euro 2020.

@Doctor Holliday:Β  I've move your post into this discussion topic rather than the predictions

Congrats Belgium. England shouldnt have their heads down, they got some good youth teams and should be very excited for the future. It's already nearly over already :(Β and I still remember 2006 like it was yesterday. Another 4 years then.....f*cking Qatar?Β

Qatar's World Cup is confirmed to be November-December as well. It's gonna be a Christmas World Cup, which is gonna be strange but... kinda cool?. Not blown away by having the WC during the middle of the European domestic season though, we're not at all equipped for it.

Unless of course Qatar get stripped of it. 🀞

I'd love to see Qatar's hosting rights to be stripped. There's several things wrong with it too. Almost the majority of football players are not even born in Qatar, much less are they of Qatari descent. That's basically like making a Canadian player playing for the Korean team who are not descendant of that specified county (I apologize if I have offended others), which is impractical at best. Also, Qatar has NEVER been in a major World Cup whatsoever and again, half of the players are non-Qatar players and they're likely gonna get the same treatment Panama received IF they're even qualified by default for the next four years. Not only that, workers are forced to work under extremely-hot temperatures with little pay, because it seems they don't care about their workers suffering from heat stroke and care more about having their stadiums built to perfection.Β Plus, the temperatures are so unbearable, it seems indoor stadiums are never considered to be a thing, and to move to November-December seems like a questionable move in itself. Pretty much the majority of people will be too busy being with families including Thanksgiving and Christmas, whereas only half of the people will still be watching them, even though it's a rarity in my opinion.

Β

In all fairness, I just want to see England getting their hosting rights instead of Qatar.

In theory the next WC will have 48 teams instead of 32 and it seems that all the matches will be played between 21th november 2022Β and 18th december 2022. If nothing changes and Qatar will remain the host of the WC (don't forget also that Neymar went to PSG basically thanks to the WC in Qatar) here in Europe we'll probably see our championships (including UCL and UEL)Β starting in July 2021 and ending in June 2022. Infantino, I understand you're practically Italian, but you haven't to copy the idea of our Supercup (which is normally played in winter in some Asian countries, this time will be in January in UAE)Β πŸ˜‚

Btw, I really hope that FIFA will change the host, England could be a good place,Β but it would have to face the otherΒ counties that proposed itselves for hosting the WC (there were the bids from Australia, Japan, Qatar, South Korea and USA that already hosts the WC of 2026 with Canada and Mexico).

One word sums up that Germany result... schadenfreude.

Such a lovely word and exactly what I felt when football wasn't coming home.

On today's match: Good luck Croatia. The day I'll be rooting for the French is the dayΒ hell freezes.

Β

Edit: 😭

I wanted Croatia to win after the England game but they've come out as bad winners since tbh. So.. Viva La France, I guess.

f*ck France. They've been pretty terrible this game so far, with 1 shot to 7 from Croatia in the first half. Incredibly lucky with the own goal, and then with the penalty. Completely undeserved title so far.

Β

Croatia has been very solid, creating a lot of chances.

Β

Watch this second half how France will begin insane time wasting and milking every minute they can, the cowards.

This sh*t is rigged. FrenchΒ goals resulted from terrible ref calls. Aside from that they're playing anti-football, the c*nts.

Yeah, that handball was bullsh*t. His hand was in a natural position, and because a France player was in front of him he didn't see the ball coming well. France just gets it handed to them. But the decisions beingin favor of the favorite is the natural state of referee decisions. Let's hope Croatia can keep playing the great football from the 1st half.

Croatia were unlucky to get that penalty goal against them. To get back they have to gve away space, and Mbappe is deadly in space. Crazy second half though.

Uncle Sikee Atric

They're running the clock down in the same way every team in the lead does.

Β

I just wish I had a tenner on the French at the start of the tourney.Β  I was the first to pick them on the thread vote, way back in the groups.

Actual score: 2-2. Most undeserved World Cup win.Β Comisserations Croatia, fought like lions till he end.Β

In another world, match should be 2-2 now. 1 French goalΒ because of a dive and another one because of a questionable penalty. Croatia played good, but now it's done.Β

Β

To 2022!!

Β

One more thing before leaving.. haha

Croatia deserved to win, but this is football: sometimes it's the team who've played badly to win. Congratulation to both nations, Croatia did a fantastic WC and obtained an unexpected result, France played well in general the whole tournament.

I hate the cheap free kick, own goal, and penalty goals this World Cup. They have really ruined some matches, this one among them. Still for a final a pretty entertaining match though.

France deserved it IMO. The handball was divisive and lucky but it did not decide the game in the end, the freekick was eh, if you go flying in like that then you're always gonna give away a foul, it's stupid from the Croatia player really. Croatia missed a fewΒ good chances to get them selves right back into the game too. That Pogba and Mbappe combination is too good man. Such a young French team as well, gonna be favourites for the 2020 Euros and 2022 WC for sure.

It's an insult to football to play such ugly football with such a talented squad though. For me it was different when Portugal won this way. They had no other option, and just did the best they could.
