Editing a map in Med Map editor crashes the game. It's frustrating because I don't know what I'm doing wrong. There's no way to find out, apparently. If you use Map editor, can you offer me some insight?

What can I or can't I edit? For example, I've recently copied some of the trees that are already in the game and put them elsewhere. Added more trees. Fine, no crash. However, if I delete a tree, the game may or may not crash. Why? Also, if I add any buildings whatsoever, the game crashes.

I don't know how to fix this. It's frustrating because I really like editing maps and making them in my ideal image but it often just results in a massive amount of time and effort for nothing as the game crashes and the map isn't usable. Very disappointing.

What do you think I should do?

Maybe because the trees you deleted have a lod model attached to them. One way of fixing this is delete the normal object you don't want, then turn it to lod mode and delete it's lod model. There is a more professional way of doing this, but this is the quickest and easiest way of doing that. Keep in mind most objects, mostly buildings and large objects will have a lod model attached to them.

This is most likely your issue.

Oh.such a long title!

Anyway, use some limit sdjusters.(I suggest OLA for you cause you wont need to configure it unlike FLA)

I'm going to try the first thing but how does a Limit adjuster help me and my cause again? Never heard of it. To be honest, I always went into this stuff blind with an imagination and not much else. That's why I ended up frustrated. I'm bummed because I want to do it intelligently but it all seems overwhelming. Especially when you don't really know what you did wrong.

It bums me out because I'm convinced I could make something amazing and beautiful out of sheer imagination and idealism. If only I can not screw it up and cause the game to crash!

Also make your own .ipl file if you haven't already where you'll be adding stuff. And if you need to remove something from the map you can change it's height to something like -1000.0. It's risky to just delete objects at least in GTA III from my experience. It's probably same in SA.

I have no idea what that means though. Making an IPL. Even if I did know how, not sure where to put it.

Put it anywhere you want in game directory and put its location in gta.dat for sa and gta-vc.dat for vc.

Or just create a new ipl file from med ,you wont need to do anything then.

With my experiencie I can say you can edit freely (add or delete original itens) in gta sa or gta vc. But you must pay attention to objects with lods (the are in the same place of the linked model). If you are using SA and want to delete a object with a lod (normally big objects like house has a LOD while trees and smaller objects, except big pines, does NOT have), so to do this, first delete the object and then, open again MED in the same place you delete this object and the LOD will be there and then just delete the LOD. Or you can load only the LODS by clicking in view LONG DISTANCE (LOD) before loading the map. But watch out, you must know the lod you will delete (otherwise you will screw your game and the game will crash), and to know this use the bookmark to mark where is the lod you need to delete. If you are using VC and want to delete an object, you must first delete the object and then, open MED again, select VIEW and select LOD before loading the map, and then delete the LOD (it will be also of corse in the same place of the linked object model). IF you are using GTA3, then there will be a problem, because while I used MED without problem with gta sa and vc, gta 3 appears to always crash when deleting objects. So I don't know how to do it with gta3.

Yes. I did NOT have problem deleting objects with GTA VC AND GTA SA. But somehow, when deleting objects in GTA 3 game crashes.
