Best and Worst Books You’ve Ever Read

Recommended Posts

I don’t read THAT much, however, there are some books that I think are incredibly great and others that I don’t care for at all.

Best:

The Holy Bible: As a Christian, it kinda has to be my favorite, but I’m not gonna delve deep into religion here.

Beowulf: Great novel from the Middle Ages! I am also of Norwegian, German, English, Northern Irish, and Scottish descent, so it kinda reminds me of my heritage! :) The fights with Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon were all very interesting as well.

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling: Another classic novel that I view as incredibly great! I thought just about every character was likable and had something memorable about them! I even like it better than the 1967 Disney adaptation.

Winnie the Pooh series by A. A. Milne: I LOVED them in my childhood!

Of Sound Mind by Jean Farris: This book was written back in 2001 and I enjoyed it through and through. In it, a high school senior named Theo is the only hearing member of an all deaf family. He also has a friend/love interest named Ivy who has a deaf father. Great for those who are struggling with disabilities!

Painting the Black by Carl Decker: This book was written back in 1997 and I would highly recommend it to a friend! There’s a 17-year-old boy named Ryan Ward who hadn’t played baseball in a long time and had no one in his neighborhood that was around his age until this kid named Josh Daniels comes along. Josh also plays football and is one of those obnoxious school jocks. I didn’t particularly care for Josh like I did Ryan, but you’ll have to read the book in order to find out why. I would also highly recommend this book to any of my friends either on here or in real life.

Worst:

Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson: Dark, controversial, and graphic just for the pure sake of it! I unfortunately had to read this and the other worst ones listed here for school! Don’t read it unless you have to if you know what’s good for you!

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt: A nonfiction book about Savannah, Georgia that is obscene and lackluster. Read it if you really and I mean REALLY wanna know why!

Shift by Jennifer Bradbury: Well, this one isn’t as bad as Catalyst or Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Think of it this way: Taking a small crap and taking a major crap. At the end of the day, it’s still crap. If you have or will read it, you’ll probably take my word for it!

A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines: Another dark, gloomy, and graphic one I had the misfortune of having to read for school. This one is actually my favorite out of the four listed here. If you read it, you should really be terrified about reading the other three.

So..what are the best and worst books you guys have read?

Best:

-My experiments with Truth: Though I don't agree with most of Gandhi's ideology and actions, I gotta admit it is one of the great book I ever read. Gives a great insight in Mahatma's early life, freedom struggle and all.

-Bhagvad Gita: Born in a Hindu family and raised as a hindu, this is definitely my favourite. Just like you said, I won't go deep into religion.

-Kamasutra: Now this is the book I really enjoyed reading, lol. But, on a serious note, it isn't a s*x manual as per popular perception. It presents as a guide to virtuous living discussing family, love, friends.

-Jungle Book: The book is just so awesome, no need to explain.

-War and peace: Best of Leo Tolstoy. Great book and must read IMO.

Worst:

I don't remember the name of the book, but it was about a boss who tries to rape one of his female employee and gets killed the other day. It was really boring and the rest of plot is of a  private detective trying to  find the real killer.

Never heard of that book but yeah, sounds pretty dumb and boring just like the ones I listed as the worst.
