Same thing can also be applied in sports. For example, in F1 there was several drivers who carried the last name of a legend -or more or less relevant driver from the past- and they didn't live up to the expectations. Bruno Senna comes to my mind right now. Jolyon Palmer was a mediocre driver, but his dad Jonathan wasn't precisely a superstar in the 80's either. Sometimes is the other way around, like Max Verstappen.

Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder...

...why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

Your name should remind you with one as well, with Nico and Keke Rosberg. I think it helps with racing and in sports, as you're practically getting world class instruction and access from whenever you want to take it up.

Musicians are kind of up sh*t creek, you could be just as talented as your mother or father (in the case of Sean Lennon... he probably hopes his father lol) but still not make it anywhere. Whereas if you're just as talented as your F1 racing father, you're probably going to make it as a successful racing driver.

Because John Lennon was one of the top 10 successful musical persons in the history of this planet. That's a hard thing to beat, it's way more than just genetics involved in success, connections, practice, pure random luck...

Lennon didn't find anyone that wasn't hard to beat.

I think it's really unfair for celebrities' and successful people in general children to expect them to be as successful as their parents. Imagine if someone approached you and told you you're nowhere near as successful as your mother/father, how would you react to that? Perhaps by saying "I'm not my parents", right?

Keep in mind successful people aren't some kind of superior race carrying some special gene in their bloodline, in most cases people simply have a passion, a natural aptitude or (as it happens a lot today) someone invested on them to be successful. None of those factors can be inherited from the parents.

I believe one of the most important principles of good parenting is to not force your ideals or expectations into your kids. Maybe they'll top you on everything you're good at, maybe they have different passions and follow a different path of yours, but raising them expecting them to follow the path you've chosen will only lead them to frustration, resulting in either living forever unhappy or simply rebelling against you and base their life choices on the opposite you've teached them (often resulting in failure, too).

It's so subjective too. Somebody might really like John Lennon's music, but maybe they aren't so keen on his son's output. Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe people aren't so reasonable and might just dislike one because of the other. It's also worth pointing out that we're living in a different age of celebrity culture. John Lennon was considered very influential at the time, whereas we've had reams of imitators since. It isn't a new thing and our tastes have changed over the decades.

It's easy to slap a label on him and expect more because of who his dad is but it isn't a fair assessment of his character or music either way.

Kinda random but what was the first car ever made as we know it? I'm not talking about late 19th century- early 20th century "cars" that looked like a horse wagon. I'm asking about an actual car designed like the cars we see these days.

Just curious.

Define "designed like". As in, a stressed unibody chassis? The Lancia Lambda of 1922 had the first unibody chassis in a road vehicle, but the Citroen Traction Avant of 1934 is probably the earliest truly "modern" car.

how come conspiracy theorists never talk about the band U2? their music gets played on the radio and stuff despite the fact that no one likes their music. i've never met anyone that is a fan of U2 or knows anyone that is a fan of U2. it all seems p suspicious tbh.

Same with the movie Avatar, made the most money of any movie ever... yet... no one seems to like, or care about, this movie at all.

*raises hand* o/

Avatar's one of my favorite movies.

Thanks. Gonna do some research on both cars. The Lancia is close enough to what I meant. I'm 99% sure my grandfather had a model car that looked exactly like this one btw.

The looks of the earliest prototypes didn't represent cars as we know them today and looked more like wagons so typing "first car" into google didn't help me further. With the design I meant a 4-wheeled vehicle with a carossery, windows, 2/4 doors, a compact, closed vehicle.

Many early vehicles remind me of horse wagons, tractors and some even have 3 wheels so I wanted to know which manufacturer designed a vehicle that started the trend we see today on every car.

Are you a part of any fangroups? Are you aware of any? Cosplaying etc? I thought it was fine, so i'm not putting it down, i'm just amazed by the lack of cultural importance, at least in the

US, this most profitable movie ever has had.

Avatar seemed to come and go. I saw it at the cinema and all I remember is it being visually stunning. After the initial run there was a DVD release and then... nothing. Now all of a sudden he's making four more of them, nearly ten years on with so little fanfare and seemingly little demand. I don't remember walking away from it thinking "wow, I wonder what'll happen next".

LTTP but...Avatar.

I don't pay close attention to the world around me so I really didn't know about the movie outside of the side stories surrounding it.

I heard people were getting all emotional and committing suicide and such because Pandora was so beautiful and the blue people were so nice. Meanwhile life here on earth sucked.

I thought it was going to be some sort of serious movie. "Deep".

I was shocked. It was a kids movie. All the way down to the over the top army guy.

So I no longer have a facebook, just facebook messenger. Meaning I can't add people as friends, and I'm pretty sure any messages I send anyone will go to that bloody 'message request' folder that I used to go months without checking. Basically is there any way to draw attention to messages that go into this foloder, like if I change the colour or send a sticker or something?

Came across these audio cords in an old box, how they work seems pretty self-evident but what exactly are they used for? Do they have a name? Pictured are the two ends of the cord.

Just a kind of splitter. The most common use, probably, would have been to connect audio from a CD/MP3 player to TV, while still leaving room to plug in a VCR/DVR or whatever else might have been using these RCA jacks for audio.

Modern TVs, of course, will use HDMI for both video and audio almost exclusively, so it's hard to come up with a modern use for it.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Ah okay. Practical, but kind of obsolete. Cheers.

How hard would it be to get an LP or sales associate to hit me (without breaking any law)? Also, what kind of settlement could I expect if they did, or what about if they scream and cuss at me? I was thinking Walmart or Target would pay out the most, and pushing people past their breaking point is one of my most valuable skills.

If they cannot control your anger to the point that they find it necessary to hit people because someone said some words that you do not like, then that is entirely their problem. Of course, we already know that is not grounds to justify hitting someone. There is simply no excuse to hit people because of their choice of speech, or actions as long as it does not harm them. With that being said, I would like people to take an objective approach and help find a solution to my question. Moralizers need not apply.

Nah, that's total bullsh*t. Just because you refrain from physical violence doesn't mean you're not crossing multiple, horrible and inappropriate lines. Our society put physicality at the most extreme, but that's so wrong. Some things said, or the spirit in which other things are said, can be and are much worse than a slap, push or punch.

you do realize that you can get in trouble for provoking a fight. I am sure the guy that you are trying to provoke to hit could afford way better legal team than you can.

Moralizers need not apply.

My suggestion would not to be a c*nt. Especially if you decide to plan such a confrontation on a publicly available forum before the fact.

Regardless of what you say, it cannot be considered enough to provoke violence. You can call someone whatever you want, but in America it is not considered enough to instigate fighting or conflict. I'm just trying to get an answer to my question. I'm not trying to start a major debate or stir up morality warriors.

you would have to be talking a lot of f*cking sh*t to get someone to punch you in the face. you will look like you are provoking the situation. Plus if the guy hits you one time, nothing will probably happen and the judge will probably say you deserved it. he would literally have to beat you up. I do not see how it would go the way you want unless you catch the guy one of those "waking up on the wrong side of the bed" type of day.. or if you don't go after a ceo type and go for an athlete.

Please don't be that type of person.

But if you want to be, tuff luck, they'd most likely either realize you're full of sh*t and ignore you or realize you're full of sh*t and call security on you.
