Probably because such game proved to cause no negative effects on regular people...

Only ignorant idiots care these days about it.

Yeah I think the knee jerk reaction to video game violence has greatly reduced. The Helen Lovejoy effect is not as strong as it once was. lr13z.jpg

The internet has replaced it as the new hot topic to be concerned about. Controversy and wanting to ban video games seems almost quaint now.

Because people fear what they don't know or understand. All those outbreaks happened when 3D games, offering realistic graphics and environments [for the time] and so those behaviours seemed more "real" than a pixel art sprite shooting squares. People got, say, impressed by that. Then, close minded folks came in with their speculation opinions and the media amplified them causing an outbreak.

That's absolutely no new thing. In the late 70s and 80s some people used to hate rock and metal music for being satanic and "the Devil's music" (little did they knew about 2010's pop music, if I had to point out what the "Devil's music" has to be it would be that f*cking torture). In the early 20th century people got really scared and impressed by the early horror movies, later on some scenes even got censured and cinema guidelines created in part because of them! (go watch Frankenstein or Dracula - great movies btw, I can't recommend them enough - some of the most controversial scenes back on the day are either hilarious or normal by today's standards. If you do, keep in mind early 40s movies and later were already under all sorts of said stupid guidelines so, even though some being amazing classics, the point in question isn't present.) The list could go on and on back into the formation of most religions' principles and conceptions.

chronic lumbago

Not to mention the controversy regarding Eminem's early career. Urgh.

At least his "violent" lyrics were very funny and entertaining. These days it's bitches this and nighaz that. Now what's a better example for the children?

..maybe neither but at least he was more creative than all the trap rappers combined.

People will find something to turn against "for a greater good", do nothing and find something else, It was like that with movies, series, cartoons, music, video-games, vehicles, pollution, North Korea, etc. I find it ironic that nowadays we live in such a sensitive time where everything is offensive to everyone, but things have much less restrictions than they did 50 to 20 years ago. Cartoons couldn't show gore or swearing, but Rick and Morty and Happy Tree Friends are still here. GTA San Andreas got roasted because of the Hot Coffee thing, but games now have full nudity and sex scenes. It's all bullsh*t.

I guess it was always like that, except people kept their opinions to themselves and even if someone criticized or felt offended by something, they really couldn't make themselves heard.

In the age of narcism and the Internet, everyone feels what they think is super relevant to everyone else; anyone can go to social media, online forums wtv and say how offensive [they think] something is. I do agree people have lesser sense of humour nowadays though, most people seem less tolerant towards jokes that years ago would be seen as innocent/silly fun things.

As you guys say around there, nowadays people love to "encher o saco". ;)

Is violence in videogames still considered a "hot" issue? The last major news media controversy I have seen was in the late-00's, with GTA 4 and Torture Game. Video game violence seems like it just isn't seen as big of a problem as it was ten years ago.

People have finally calmed down and don't stick their noses in other people's hobbies as much as they used to. The last game tha was too violent and made the news was "Hatred", the game where you randomly go out and kill everyone in sight. But it's obvious why it's controversial. Same reason why Modern Warfare 2 was looked upon the wrong way.

Also, look at sex in gaming. San Andreas was almost f*cking banned for having the hot coffee deleted scenes. Nowadays we see complete nudity and sex and no one talks about it. Mass Effect even gets praise for including homosexual romances. Witcher 3 has also some good sex scenes and naked tits in some places.

People lost their sh*t over Mass Effect. I remember seeing it on the local news...

In fact, I believe that might have been how i heard of it. And San Andreas wasn't almost banned, it was just used as a tent-pole object for the Clinton/Gore Witchunt of the late '90's.

People have ALWAYS been sensitive, and they likely always will. It's not new, in fact, I find it's a lot more tolerant than it used to be in general, with tons of outrage still a daily part of our lives.

I know this will sound like a humble brag, but has anyone else taken an online IQ test? I am wondering how reliable these tests are since I scored kinda high on this one: https://iq-research.info/en/report/CR3C4iG7Rm3bd66Ay

I always assumed that I was above average (94 in my country) for a number of reasons but I figured I would be somewhere in the 100-110 range. 134 seems a little high and I am reluctant to believe this result but then again what does a reliable IQ test look like?

Did you pay them money for that? Had I known the greedy bastards wanted both money and a Facebook profile to show you your results I would have gotten dinner instead of wasting my time on that BS.

I have taken a few online IQ tests, generally I distrust tests like this which can be done in 10 minutes and are the same kind of question over and over again. There are way better ones out there. They take upwards of an hour but probably give you a more fair result. I've taken one of the best ones which unfortunately is in Swedish only but tests not only visual images like this but language, memory, logic and maths as well. The test on Mensa's website is actually one of the worse ones.

The Mensa test is a bit more challenging. I took it at one point and they told me that I have a good chance of passing the real test. I don't remember the results exactly though.

A complete test would test various skills. This one seems to focus more on pattern recognition and your ability to visualize shapes and stuff. It's not complete by any means but still somewhat challenging.

Edit: Actually, I did this Mensa test months ago with 23 out of 33 right answers: https://www.mensa.lu/en/mensa/online-iq-test/online-iq-test.html

Apparently that's considered good enough to qualify for the real test.

Since we're at it: I've always wondered what makes an IQ test "real". Is there some parameters that defines it and the difficulty standards for each skill being evaluated and how? I never did one of those online because I was never too sure just how trustworthy the results are.

It has to have several scales that test multiple skills. There's a general description here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wechsler_Adult_Intelligence_Scale#Index_scores_and_scales

Since we're discussing online tests, is there a reliable online test for Borderline Personality Disorder and/or other Cluster B disorders? I know self-diagnosis is heavily discouraged, but I would like to take one to get a better understanding of what it is and how it affects people. Also, how would one approach a psychiatrist with this? I'm a college student with a history of psychological issues, so I don't want to come off as someone just trying to get pills.

I feel you, I've had the struggle with the doctors. I'd suggest finding a therapist who can prescribe, or who works with a prescriber, and just go from there. Tell them how you're feeling and what you want to do, they'll either agree right away, or want to have a few sessions to see how to proceed.

IQ tests are statistical, so you need to get enough people to have had taken it to build a distribution from. By definition, an average score on an IQ test is 100, and scores of 85 and 115 are one standard deviation bellow and above average respectively.

If your score is in the 85-115 range, pretty much any on-line IQ test is going to be mostly reliable. But if your score is over 145, only 0.1% of people are going to be in your range. So well over 1,000 people have had to taken it to say for sure you have an over-145 IQ. If you want to distinguish between, say, 145 and 150, hundreds of thousands of people would have had to have taken the test. And you need to make sure there is low bias. So besides the 100 geniuses, you also need 100 legitimately retarded individuals in that test group. Now we're getting into serious research effort territory. So unless you are testing with Mensa, or something, and you get anything over 130, all it really tells you is that it's somewhere above 130. Actual number is not reliable at all.

This also factors into the size of the test. Something with 20 questions cannot inherently be reliable at over 130, because +/- one question would change the score by something like 20 points. You need something in the neighborhood of 200+ questions ranging from obvious to impossible to have good reliability at high scores. And again, for something like that, you probably have to go through Mensa.

How much would it actually cost to undergo a full psychiatric evaluation ?

It's pretty difficult for anyone to comment on this who isn't in your country, region and area, and whether your Healthcare is private or not. I can only suggest going to your general practitioner and asking them about it and what you mean by a "full" evaluation.

Full evaluation to test if one got a mental dissorder and an indepth look at the personallity of said person.

Well then like I said, contact your equivalent general practitioner (GP) and say you want to talk about your mental health. Really this should be obvious, unless you want the attention or something.

The Time Ranger

I got a cover for my phone, before putting the cover on the guy in the shop wiped the screen with this screen cleaner. Now i'm noticing these three marks on the centre of the screen.

In a certain light they become even more visible, the edges of the marks have a kind of rainbow colour effect and move when touched, the largest mark doesn't move when touched however. It's almost like a watermark? Does anybody know what it is and how to get rid of them?

Edit: Never mind fixed it.

Anyone got an idea if one actually can feel nervous by drinking to much cola ?

No joke, but i feel like i can not concentrate looking at just one specific point on my screen for a few seconds and my fingers feel somehow numb-ish and i kinda feel just worried in general, with a strange yet irrational feeling the world could just turn upside down at any moment.

My fingers kinda feel like when being on a really high ladder or something like that actually it seems.

and i am asking because maybe cafiene makes me nervous ?

Got about 4 cans of it to drink today, gifted by friendly owners, so yea...
