Yeah, I have a question. Do you know what ken even means, MTD? Or are you just using it to mock Smith?

Yes, I can use Urban Dictionary.

No, I mean, you had it in your member title once. It was something like: "this and that and ken"

Shouldn't you be at a Tim Horton's drive thru window on a moose waiting for your nice hot cup of coffee maple syrup?

"down with this n that ken" as in "down with this and that, know what I mean?"

And I started using it because it confuses people, and that entertains me.

I'm going on a overnight trip with my school, and my crush and her boyfriend (my friend) are going on the trip, she kinda likes me and I want to tell her I lile her on the camping trip, but my friend was begging me not to still his girl, what do I do?

Well you won't have a friend any more afterwards, I guarantee that much. If you wanna ruin a friendship surefire, steal their girl, guarantee it causes problems.

Yeqh I think I won't either, but it's kinda worth it because it's my last year of midfle school and she considers me her "very close friend, like best friends" her words

I am a good friend

lolno. You aren't. At the very least you're not a good friend to the "friend" who's girlfriend you plan on getting with. Some people can look at that as "well he wasn't a bad friend to me, he was a bad friend to that other guy", other people might see it as a reflection of your character in general.

And not that it matters, but I'm with the latter group.

It's nice that everyone that responded to your predicament - if it could be described as such - chose to ratify the girl as no more than a possession of your friend, incapable of free will, that your friend has some kind of claim to, as if she were a previously undiscovered landmass.

The quote you offered, I must say, is less than inspiring - perhaps you were overzealous before, to believe that she is romantically interested in you. I am not one to believe in the friend zone (as it rationalises that emotional or financial investment should by some manner of causation equal sexual or romantic reward), but if she describes you as a friend, it is unlikely there is some secret subtext to that saying 'I totally want to be your girlfriend'.

Pretty sure most who replied emphasized maintaining a friendship over ruining a friend's romantic relationship over a mere possibility of sexual relations. It has nothing to do with "ownership" of the girl but with respect and consideration towards someone the OP deemed a "friend".

It's nice that some people can consider merely suggesting that one act honorably, consider the feelings of others especially those they claim they are "good friends" with/to, not opportunistically do whatever they feel like doing regardless of who might be hurt by those actions simply because their genitals tell them it's okay, or at the very least just be prepared for the consequences of their own actions, to be something that can be easily oversimplified and distorted into "considering womenz to be properties yo."

You'd probably respect your friend's wishes and not hit on his girlfriend.

Competing with a buddy for the same girl is one thing, but going for her when they're already dating should be off-limits.

If you wanna ruin a friendship surefire, steal their girl

Unless we are talking about kidnapping or enslavement, how can you 'steal' a person that might want to be with you.

-

I guess it just bothers me to see it always written as the male possessive, particularly since, if he acted upon his impulses he would be interacting with the girl in this case and hurting her boyfriend.

I wasn't trying to say the advice wasn't otherwise salient, his friendship would be undoubtedly and perhaps irrevocably damaged, it's just that I don't understand those semantic foibles.

Way to argue semantics for no particular reason. :^:

Would it be more acceptable to your feministic sensibilities if the term "steal" was replaced with "liberated"?

Not all feminists are women, not all feminists are radicals.

And obviously not, if she wanted to leave the relationship she would, she is not being held against her will.

"Feministic", is also not a word. Way to blanket all feminists as being guilty of misandry.

Just to be clear, I kind of try to ignore most of that (when I can) and just chalk it up to being a simple figure of speech. I tend to (again, try and usually fail to) adopt speech like this simply for lack of a better way to put things, and because if most people involved in a given conversation have already decided how they're going to communicate something, then fine. Better to begrudgingly get on the same page and carry on with the actual discussion, than to worry about the historical etymology of a chosen phase, or the literal accuracy of some slang, etc. Again, at least not in the middle of a separate discussion.

That said, now that I know where you're coming from, I get it. I'm one to actually care about etymology, actual definitions, wording, etc., because I don't consider semantics unimportant, I consider it to be the base of communication. And regardless of the words chosen, everyone being on the same page about the meaning of the words and phrases used is actually necessary for communicating. Keep in mind though, that people tend to consider me a pedantic f*ck because of my insistence on being specific. Simply because they tend to take my being as specific as possible, or questioning them until I get them to be that specific, not as me trying to make sure that I understand and am understood correctly, but instead as me just being overly specific for no reason. So yeah, there's that.

Anyway, yes, one can't actually, legally, or literally "steal" a person. Even in kidnapping the word steal wouldn't apply because you steal property. I agree. That said, I think most people use this simply because it somehow became the common phrasing, the slang for cheating, but being the cheatee (?) as compared to the cheater. And I think most people would likely choose to phrase a female cheatee (as compared to a cheater, but again, phrasing, semantics, idk however you would label or reword the people in these situations in less than a paragraph) as having "stolen one's man" in the same sense. Not because men are property either, and I'm guessing nobody is actually worried about a man being considered a woman's property in a free society, but just because whatever, common tongue, figure of speech, shorthand, phrasing, etc.

Where did I state that all feminists are women, or that all feminists are radicals?

Here you are assuming, implying, and arguing semantics again. :^:

And how did I "blanket all feminists as being guilty of misandry"? All I asked was what word offended you less.

Nowhere - and nowhere did I state you said those things. But simply because it doesn't reference your post, it is not suddenly rendered invalid.

It was just the way that you took one word that I picked up on, and exchanged it for a word that casts men as grandiose, parochial oppressors - which is kind of the perspective of radical feminism, and the reason I mentioned the radical thing in the first place.
