By hands-on, I was meaning more along the lines of building, crafting, repairing, etc.

Are there many trade professions that you go to college to get qualified in? I would have thought most of them are trade professions, those which you get better at by actually doing, plumbing, auto-repair, agricultural labour etc.

Did you only just decide this was your field of interest (much like I who decided mid-way through my first year of University that I was not at all interested in joining the Police Inspectorate, but rather studying performing arts)?

I am horrible with math. [...] To be honest, the only thing I'm told I'm good at is writing [...] keep chit-chat with other people to a minimum.

There are two types of jobs available in the U.S. High-tech and service. Former is all math heavy, and you basically need a master's in a STEM field to qualify. So unless you want to get over it and get good at mathematics by putting a lot of work into it, the best you can possibly ever hope for is management. And that means you will have to go through customer service or HR. Either way, it means working with people.

Or you can write. Which, with a lot of work, you can make a living from. Just about.

If I did decide to pursue a career in writing, what path would recommend I take? I'm only asking because it seems like you had something in mind in that last part of your post.

And while I'm here, I may as well ask another question. When companies do background checks on potential new hires (I'm talking for positions that pay a salary, not some teenager wanting to mop the floor for McDonalds), what exactly do they look into? I know there are thousands of companies all across this country, but I was just talking about in general what any given employer is likely to try and dig up.

You're definitely going to be interacting with customers there

For those. Id look into some trade schools since those are more experience based rather than theory based.

Unless you are seriously committed to writing, don't idealize some kind of career doing it for a living. What kind of writing do you enjoy? Start working on it daily. Start a blog and build up a regular schedule for writing, even while you have a job doing something else. If that doesn't sound appealing, or if you don't feel like spending all of your free-time working on the craft, then trying to make it a career is definitely not a good idea.

As for working with your hands: just look around. There are countless blue collar jobs out there that need young blood. Most companies will even hire you right out of vocational school, or help pay for some of it. Your best bet is entry-level work with a construction firm, or landscaping, auto shop, whatever. Just start searching and keep searching. The work is out there all over.

If they have an official website, you should probably check that out.

Canada.

Source: American.

I've always wanted to go to Nova Scotia.

And Quebec( I heard they're rude there, but like French Canadian women are unbelievably cute)

How many shots of vodka should I have before I go take my humongous yard?

Never mind, I'm just gonna pour some over my jelly beans and munch on those while I rake.

Okay that lasted a lot shorter than I expected. I thinking two shots?

Nvm I just gonna go with two shorts

Northeastern US is very nice (especially NYC and almost anywhere in New England), and if you're up for visiting both you've got Quebec (Montreal) and Toronto right nearby which are also worth visiting.

Shots* I only took one.

I haven't heard anything from the 9 different jobs I applied to this past Friday.

Im thinking about following up, but should I ? Like should I just wait for email or something ?

I'd wait it out. My friends have waited up to a month before hearing a reply before.

I've been trying to interpret and find the "meaning" of the music video for Just, which I'm sure some of you have seen, but I just can't figure it out. There's obviously some deep-rooted meaning or story that in some way relates to the song, but I have no idea what it is. Does anyone think they have a good interpretation of it? I'd be really interested to hear it

Edit;

I'm assuming you mean Radiohead?

Yes.

I know this is opinion-based, but it's still a question, and one with an answer I'm curious about.

How do you think the Israel-Palestine conflict should be resolved?

There's a thread in D&D for that kind of thing, may be best to post there.

Or not. Every time that question's been raised it's ended up in a sh*tstorm with me and my man Palikari on one side, MTD, Mel, Natalie Bennett and Nick Clegg (using assumed names of course) on the other with Sivis futilely trying to mediate before saying "toss it" and locking the thread.

A lot has been written about the situation and you would do well to read literature on both sides and avoid mainstream media coverage which is generally massively biased in one way.

Yup. Just read the topic for a while if you feel like getting some info about the conflict without really investigating. Still, there isn't a magic solution IMO, so far only bad solutions, and others worst.

Depends where you live. If it's a big city, bicycle would work fine, assuming they have bike lanes. Otherwise, walking's the only other option really.

Of course, if you live in the country like I do, horse and buggy seems to be popular.

Lord mercy! That thread is already complicated and heated enough without throwing the Israel-Palestine conflict in with it. It really does need it's own dedicated topic, the Israel-Palestine conflict I mean. I'd really like to discuss it, but I ain't creating that thing and bringing it into the world.

My mom won't let me get a go-kart , or horse. There's a junkyard near me. I might just see what I can build from there.
