Ancient is relative. One of my examples was, in my opinion, in the time frame where the "white men are evil, the devils" reputation was garnered.

I actually mentioned this sometime ago and was nearly crucified. Yeah, I love this country and all, but our colonial policies were f*cking disgusting... I know I've already infected this thread with hypotheticals regarding time travel, but this is aimed more towards any history buffs/walking encyclopedias and require a bit more thinking.

 

Say time travel to the past is possible. What would be the short term (immediately after - 1 year later) and long term (1 year later - present day) effects of the following scenarios? For the sake of avoiding further questions and distractions from the answers to these questions, ignore the implausibility of the time traveler being able to carry out these actions.

 

-Adolf Hitler is assassinated by TT (time traveler) in 1932, just prior to the re-election of Germany's president Paul von Hindenburg.

 

-TT ensures a victory for Eumenes "the Greek" against Antigonus "the one-eyed" in 316 BC.

 

-TT convinces Vasili Arkhipov to agree to launch a nuclear torpedo at the US Navy from the submarine B-59 on October 27th, 1962.

To stay in theme with the historical hypotheticals, I wonder what would have happened to the USSR if Trotsky had risen to power instead of Stalin? I imagine it could've either become somewhat democratic, or it could have been a whole lot bloodier, since Trotsky was known for his ruthlessness. Thoughts on this?

Everything that Coin said is 100% on but even though this is hypothetical if any of those things had happened the world would not be the same you and i would possibly not be here.

^This. There are lots of thing that can go completely different with the slightest change, that's why predicting what would've happened if you kill hitler, is impossible. You would have to considered the actions and future of every human being, animal, plant, etc, and everything from the moment you changed history. Kind of like prediction of the weather, so many things going on, that the accuracy of any prediction decreases as time passes.
