Any views on the keystone pipeline XL being repealed? And will it actually create 40k jobs?

At best the jobs would be temporary. This veto is a good thing, we don't need to spend money and give resources so the Koch brothers can have their Canadian tar-sand oil transported OVER the US to be shipped AWAY from the US. Seriously f*ck those guys, those un-American, selfish, money-grubbing threats to Big-D-Democracy.
I can't believe I said repealed -_-

I heard it's not entirely out the administration though.

President Obama vetoed it, I don't know what other hurdles it has before congress has a change to vote on overturning the veto... seems pretty dead to me.

Yeah Obama vetoed it and now it'll go to the HOR which can overrule his veto and even though the majority are Republican and want the pipeline they won't have enough votes to overule Obama veto.Unless we get a rebuplican president next year it'll come back. If only Republicans came with something else other than repeal Obamacare, push the pipeline and cut spending for everything.

Bwahahahahaha aaaa...fork it. No with the exception of a few members the majority of repubs in the Senate are a bunch of limp-dick wussies. They can't even pass what a majority of the American people want. And not just the jobs, but lower energy costs. Less reliance on mid-east oil. There's a number of positives in putting in a pipeline, but your president is more interested in the environmental lobby that the betterment of the American people. At this point I doubt that the Senate could organize a two car funeral. What's the point of having a majority if they're just gonna roll over every single time?!? So yeah, fork em'.

Just as an aside for all you watermelons out there, Canada is still going to sell the oil. The benefit for having a pipeline is that it would reduce the number of rail cars presently transporting that oil. You know what locomotives burn? That's right oil! So in your quest to protect the environment you're causing MORE pollution. Now that Canada isn't going to transport it to the US, guess where its going? China! How does it get there? By oil tankers. And what do those ships burn? Oil. And it's going to be used by people who haven't got the same auto/factory standards we have here. And what does that bring? More pollution. You effing morons!

But the benefits of the pipeline aren't out weighing the negatives. Aside from the evironmental issues, what would happen if say one of those pipes were to burst? We already have train crashes for that. And aside from that it's mentioned that we won't even get the oil.

How many times has the Alaskan Pipeline leaked? Compared to Exxon Valdez not that much.

And yes of course we're getting the oil. The whole point is to transport the raw oil to get refined. I believe in either Texas or Louisiana. If we happen to sell off the refined product then thats gravy baby. More jobs, more money, more tax revenue, more better.

@Spaghetti Cat but the idea still counts. If it did burst then what? I'm still convinced that this pipeline won't do us any good. And bear in mind that the jobs are temporary.

You asked an obvious question, you get an obvious answer.

Here's another obvious answer, the potential employer wants you to work there.

Ask for an unrealistic amount of money and see what happens.

Good evening,

I'm thinking about bumping my old modding topic because all the downloads are still active. I'm not adding anything nor have I planned it.

It's pretty old. Last post from Jan 2013. I thought it's a good idea to show it one more time, of course it's hidden behind newer stuff.

You think it's wise to bump such old topic?

This is a serious question, I don't want it get locked or anything. I put alot work in it. Thank you.

I wouldn't bump a topic that old unless I had something worthwhile to add to it.

"His or her..." :monocle:

Phrasing that question a little better might yield an equally well-phrased answer.... but honestly, I don't see an aspect of that question that isn't painfully obvious. From the employers perspective? It means they obviously want you realy bad.

Probably for your refined problem solving skills.

It would have a huge impact on the eco system at least in the water it's easier to clean up but if it would to burst over land it would be a huge disaster to the ecosystem not to mention many more animals would die most likely tenfolds compared to the BP Gulf Oil Spill.

That is one of many person why environmentalist have been fighting so hard against it.

There are so many things that could go wrong with the pipeline while the only real good thing it'll do is add 40k + jobs across 7 Providences & states albeit it temporary this is just one of those things where the risk outweigh the good and i'm glad Obama didn't let it thur and hoping they don't get enough votes to overule him on the veto

I'm partial to Wondershare Video Edition but it's not free to use and you'll have a watermark until you buy the program but it's def worth it for $34.99.

I've used both and i like Wondershare much more.

You can download a free trial of Wondershare and see how you like it and compare the two.

Who is funding ISIS and BOKO HARAM?

ISIS were initially funded by wealthy individuals of Salafist persuasion in the Gulf region, and laterally by the likes of Turkey and other Middle Eastern nations, due to them acquiring much of their equipment from internal fighting with other, more moderate factions inside the Free Syrian Army. These days they sustain themselves through black-market sales, primarily of oil, kidnapping for ransom and through hefty taxation of citizens under their control- but their income is drying up.

I don't know whom, if anyone, externally funds Boko Haram. I know much of it is from bank robberies and kidnapping. Probably some investment from other, wealthier militant groups too. And probably the black market.

@sivis
Correct. Boko Haram is very big on kidnapping and extortion. Some radical Islamist sympathizers also help fund them through donations, and it's linked to Al-Qaeda, which contributes to the increase of supporters. They use an economic model called "Hawala", which implies a certain "ghost" movement of money and relies on trust, mostly. They are also adept in drug trafficking and that involves clients from various nations.

If anything oil spills have more impact in water because of the sheer area it can affect, because the oil gets distributed over massive areas by currents. And because it affects a larger area it's also harder to clean it up. Land spills tend to be much more localised and easier to clean up and easier to contain. Animals on land can also get away much easier from a land spill than marine animals can get away from water spills, which tend to just get everywhere and offer no safe havens.

I don't really get the opposition to this pipeline. Sure there are potential environmental hazards, but nothing particularly unique or dangerous compared to anything else. I think it's benefits far outweigh any potential negative aspects.

True but unlike water where the oil will stay on top of the water the oil will sink into the soil and when it rains and the soil is saturated with water the oil will make an appearance above ground not to mention it will remain there long have the spill has been "cleaned" which means when little Tigger The Fox grows up and has Lil Tiggers of his own the ground they'll be walking on, sleeping on and eating from will be saturated with oil same with all the plants in the area will die off and not grow back trees will die at a huge rate regardless of where it would happen oil spills would be a huge disaster.

It might be a good idea if we moved this discussion to the D&D section if anybody makes a thread for it of course.

In the following scenario, what would be the right thing to do?

You are a corporate hiring manager at a globally-recognized toy company. During hiring season, you interview a "dream" applicant who wants a position in product QA. His resume sings praises such as graduating from an Ivy League school Summa Cum Laude with a mechanical engineering degree, being head of a fraternity, starting a charitable organization, and so on. You call one of his references, one of his engineering professors, to verify these claims and he confirms everything. You go ahead and hire him. Five years later, he's one of the most beloved employees in the company's history, and has just been promoted to head of product development by your superiors in a highly publicized company event so that he can finally put his degree to proper use. At this point, you are now in charge of approving product designs. The first toy he proposes sounds like an amazing product for kids and so you give him the green light to begin designing it. You are dumbfounded when he comes back with a sloppy sketch with incorrect proportions, wrong names for components, and several obvious safety hazards. You ask why he would waste your time joking around considering he just got the promotion and he simply says he didn't get much sleep. A week later, he re-submits the design, and although its proportions are corrected, component labels and safety hazards are still apparent. Something is wrong. You nonchalantly accept the design and praise him, but trash it once he leaves the room. You decide to do a more thorough investigation into his background and discover that his uncle is a trustee of the university he attended. Suspicious, you track down his engineering professor once more and press him for the truth, guilt-tripping him by telling him that if his former student's designs were approved children could have been seriously injured. He eventually confesses that the uncle is also childhood friends with the university president and both of them put tremendous pressure on every faculty member that had him as a student to play ball. It turns out that your co-worker only took one engineering class and failed it miserably, didn't graduate with any honors, was not part of a fraternity, actually majored in philosophy, and certainly didn't found a charitable organization.

You now have to make a decision. You can: (a) let your bosses know that you made a terrible mistake in the hiring process, which will likely result in you getting fired, along with causing a domino effect that could impact the jobs of many university faculty, including the president, or, (b) forget everything you've learned, keep your mouth shut to save your job and the jobs of others and hope the day never comes when a child is seriously injured or killed by a product designed by your co-worker.

Oh man, that is a crazy scenario. I have a family to support and wouldn't want to be responsible for others losing their jobs, and seeing as it's my job to approve designs, I would probably keep him on and make the needed changes or work to get him out of the company. Track his arrivals and such and find a good BS reason, maybe even months down the line, to have him fired.

Keep in mind that if you take option two, and a child does get killed by one of the toys, the repercussions of your actions will be much worse than if you had told the truth in the first place. I'm not trying to sway anyone into taking a certain choice, but I think it's important that that's known.

But you(I) do have the job of approving designs, correct? So I(you) could try to flesh things like that out before they go to the factory. That's a major caveat in my line of thinking.
