When I reverse and have the wheel cranked to one of the sides, the whole car kind of shudders and shakes like it's rubbing on something... anyone know what this is? I drive a 2002 Acura MDX.

No, just when I reverse and not a clicking sound, per se, but kind of like a small shudder... like rubber rubbing against rubber....

If there is a clicking sound it is is the cv joint, roll your window down and listen to it, and it means the axle needs replacing eventually, the cv boots are just a piece of rubber protecting the cv joint, and they don't make strange noises, or I can't see how they could.

 

The noise you're hearing is either the cv joint or something else, if you go to a mechanic it's a fairly cheap repair, if they suggest replacing "The boots" say no, and that you want the problematic cv joints replaced, both cost nearly the same, but replacing The boots on a cv joint that is on the way out is pretty stupid. You probably have some years of driving before it gives out if you only hear it when reversing, when you start hearing it on everyday turning, get them replaced.

I've never been able to figure out this riddle, and I'm hoping someone here could provide a solution to it.

@Alien: Well, it's possible, seeing HHollywood's need to make sequels for everything . For all we know, we can expect 2 sequels, a reboot, a sequel to the reboot, and another reboot.

They've been f*cking around for two weeks, the public universities are no longer accepting applications, and private universities are about to stop accepting applications as well. Meaning I'll have to sit on the sofa for another six months, until next semester starts.

 

The way I see it, I should be entitled to some kind of compensation. Anyone ever sued anyone before? Was it expensive? Can I even expect any compensation?

My feeling is that it's probably not likely to go anywhere re: suing. Having said that, I would ring around in your area anyway, see if you find a lawyer that will give you a free consultation - they'll (hopefully) give you a good idea of what your options are and so on, if the University continues to f*ck around with your transcript.

Rather than threatening legal action, which is pretty much guaranteed to make them clam up, I'd raise it with the senior management of your college. Go completely over the heads of the teaching staff. If you still don't get a satisfactory response, write to your local newspaper and whatever body oversees further/higher education.

 

This kind of thing isn't uncommon; my partner's university f*cked up her module choices which resulted in her having to pay to resit modules that should have been compulsory but weren't. We managed to get the money back out of them, but that's the most you'll ever get IMO as it's very hard to put a price on delaying transition to other education or the suchlike. The costs, both time and financial, of conducting legal action against an education institution makes it a zero-sum game even if you win- much more effective to sh*t on them in public if you want something sorted quickly.

I'm surprised to hear that I'm not entitled to any compensation. For clarification: I'm doing a high school equivalence course (which is kind of like university on easy mode). I specifically paid them and showed up every day expecting to get a certificate to show the universities, which they haven't provided. Surely that's a breech of contract or something? Delaying transition to higher education seems like a really big deal, if this happened to a high school kid I doubt they'd be expected to take it on the chin. "Well little Timmy, you passed all your tests with flying colours, but the computers being funny so enjoy smoking cones and working at burger king for a year."

It's not a question of whether or not you are entitled to compensation- because you probably are. The issue is trying to put a value on something intangible. If you've paid for a service they've failed to provide then you can probably get a proportion of that back as long as you could demonstrate that they were in breach of contract, but actually judging the value of inconveniencing your higher education would be challenging, as would identifying to what degree the institution could be held responsible for it. I hope you've kept all of your correspondence on the matter...
