EDIT: On the subject, would getting hired at Best Buy or a phone carrier store likely require previous work experience?

Nah you just really need to know what you're talking about and they train you in your products.

Some places prefer you don't know what your talking about so it is easier to train you to push their overpriced crap.

Was Oogie Boogie the Sandman, or did they just look similar?

Mr. Oogie Boogie is the meanest guy around. If I were on his Boogie list, I'd get out of town.

If you're going to work in a shop that sells devices, please know what you're talking about. There's this new guy in my local T-Mobile store and he always feeds people incorrect information. You never want to be corrected by your customer, it's pretty embarrassing.

Yeah, this is pretty much my reaction whenever I go into a tech store :p

Has anyone ever plugged a headphone in some way (like not completely plugged in the jack) so that the music you're hearing from the device alters in some way? (Like you only hear some instruments or the vocals disappear or something)

Well I used to do that all the time and listen to the music, it's really interesting, but now I find it pretty hard to recreate the effect, I tried various ways of plugging my headphones and still doesn't work.

So is there any software that kinda recreates the effect?

Hmmm never seen the nightmare before Xmas. Thanks for the answers. That gif made me chuckle, and got me curious to it's origin.

It seems you may be listening to a stereo recording in mono.

Stereo= 2 speakers

Mono= 1 speaker

A lot of times, when the music is in stereo, certain instrument tracks will be relegated to one speaker, so if you essentially mute one speaker, you'll only hear those tracks.

I used to do that to help me learn basslines.

I think there's more to it, as I've experienced the same thing and being that my knowledge of the tech is, well, dated - I was kinda spooked.

Found it happened more often (only?) with headsets that include a remote control or mic function, sp theres three contacts on the plug, not just the usual stereo two. It's almost as if a bandpass is applied tot he signal. Sometimes, yeah, completely mutes the vocals. Spooky magic.

Yeah, come to think of it, I've had that too, it's like it just loses part of the signal or something.

Actually, I had a sh*tty car stereo that kind of did that too.

Short google search suggested the signals get mixed and sort of manually inverted.... Really cool, if you think about it; i may be wrong but it sounds like what we end up hearing is only the sound that wasnt mixed to both channels. Like killing the center of the mix. Sorta like this:

The amount of circle-jerks and self-fellatio is the more nauseating part.

Yep, pretty sick of bands of people going around being annoying together.

Maybe they want to support their favorite pornstar or something.

Also true.

On this forum at least, does someone making an edit to their post count as a reply?

Nope. Replies usually counts as the post you make in the first place.

For more assurance, just try to edit one of your posts and see if it counts as a reply or not.

Yeah, the "reply" count is just number of message entries in database associated with a given thread. Editing usually just modifies contents of the message, rather than adding a new one. But the count can be "wrong" due to things like double posts getting merged, or some replies being hidden/deleted.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.
