Is there a ''What's the name of the song in this video'' thread?

No but if you have a smart phone download an app called Shazam and hold it up to the speakers and turn it on and it'll tell you the name of the song it only needs 10 seconds of music

Does it really feel good to be a gangster?

And has anyone here actually tried veggie meat, and does it actually taste the same as regular meat? Actually healthier too?

Well, we also use that word in my country. I don't see what's wrong with calling those people 'coloured'.

It's a pretty old term, and often considered offensive. Just like "negro" or "blacks". Saying someone is black, however, is different from referring to "the blacks".

N-word? You mean nigga? Don't be afraid of using a word, at least not while it's acceptable to use the word "cracker" ;)

You obviously don't understand the gravity of a pejorative used by slave-traders to describe a group of people who were kidnapped from their country, stripped of their own language and culture, traded like livestock, denied even the ability to read and write, and were generally abused, stereotyped and underestimated to the point that hundreds of years later African-Americans as a demographic still lag behind in today's USA regarding health, wealth, education and respect because of it.

If there is one word that deserves to be closed in the pages of history, it is most certainly the N-word.

^That's all very well, but no African American alive today has experienced any of the tragedies that they're so keen on citing (slavery, oppression, dehumanization), so saying "cracker" is just as unacceptable as the use of the word "nigga". Nobody has permission to be racist just because their race has been subjected to it. It's idiotic, and instead of eliminating racism, it just shifts the positions of the racists and the victims. As long as words like "guinea", "cracker", "chink" are acceptable to use, so is "ni**er". It's also incredibly funny how none of the other racial slurs I mentioned are censored.

My point, just to clarify, is not that all of these words should be acceptable, but rather that none of them should. The sooner we forget about not offending a particular group and focus on not offending a fellow human being regardless of race, the sooner racism will be eliminated.

should I feel bad for being insulted on the internet?

Nah, man, just present a good argument (if you were insulted during a debate of some sort) and then release a burning insult.

This is going to end in tears.

True... so, to prevent that, let us all join in a universal little anthem :D

If you read my post, my entire point was that black people's position in American society today is still a product of what was the status quo hundreds of years ago. All the laws, rules and paperwork seems fair on paper but the fact is blacks still go through prejudice your white male EU-member citizen self can't even imagine. When you strip someone of their culture it causes complete loss of identity, couple that with prejudice of labeling blacks as a lower species for hundreds of years, the only identity left to assume is the one that has been imposed upon you.

The difference is that when you call someone a "cracker" or even a "chink" you are just pejoratively stating they are from a particular background and culture. When you call someone the N-word, you are reminding them they have no background.

If a kid at school calls you a "cracker" you can run home and find solace in a book showing your cracker ancestors building churches, flying planes, going into space. A Chinese kid called a chink can run home and see vast ancient empires and read about one of the world's fastest growing economies that will probably rule the world some day. What has a black American kid got to look back on? Just more of the same oppression he just experienced.

I don't think that racism is such a present issue in the US, but I could be mistaken, since, as you eloquently put it, I'm just a white European male. (Actually I can imagine that, because if you read up on the Portuguese Colonial War, you'll see just how prejudiced and ignorant some soldiers were and the atrocities they committed against innocent blacks out of pure colonial and racial contempt. Some of those vets are actually quite racist even today.)

Like I said, although what you say is true, that doesn't excuse racism, whomever it may come from or be directed at, nor does it give anyone a pass.

What has a black American kid got to look back on? Just more of the same oppression he just experienced.

Martin Luther King? Charlie Parker? John Coltrane? Nelson Mandela? Xanana Gusmão (not fully black, but still)? Mark Dean? Just some ideas... Edited by Black_MiD

By no means is there any justification for using pejorative language for any race (apart from when discussing them as a subject matter of course), but I still believe the N-word is an especially delicate case.

Using examples such as MLK and Mandela only re-enforce my case, the very fact the first black heroes people mention are fighters of oppression are jarring reminders of just how far behind blacks have been placed.

Even Parker and Coltrane are not the best examples because while they have made marvellous musical contributions and are successes in their own right, even today there is a pigeonholing of black people as 'entertainers' and 'athletes' Please, do not interpret this as me saying they are in any way wrong for choosing that career, I am just saying very few people can realistically build a career that way.

I think Neil Degrasse Tyson explains it best in this video at 1:00 onwards:

@epoxi

Glad we cleared that up, man. Were basically agreeing, then. And while the point you raise about the stereotyping of blacks as entertainers is correct, I did not have that in mind when I mentioned them; I simply felt they were praiseworthy geniuses who happened to be black. I think Xanana Gusmão is also worth reading about. Great man!

On a side note, kudos for maintaining a rational line of thought and not drifting off into ad hominem.

(forgive the lack of apostrophes; my phone wont register them)

Sorry for being dumb but quick question. Don't get the answer to this math problem. r represents the square root sign.

r6(7r3+6)

I can get 21r2 easily enough but now idea how you get 6r6.

Also you only have to simplify.

Are students in K-6 legally required to eat lunch at school in the U.S.? I remember in 4th grade I wasn't hungry, and told the lunch lady I didn't want lunch, and she flipped out at me and forced me to take a lunch. They didn't give us the option to not eat lunch until 7th grade.

@ My school we weren't forced to eat but if we didn't want to eat we'd just go hungry simple as that but if you didn't bring a lunch and didn't have money they'd give some you PB & Crackers 5th grade is middle school and we didn't have to even go into the lunch room and a lot of kids didn't they went to the gym or outside.

I rarely ate lunch in middle school and in high school i can only remember eating lunch in high school a hand full of times over 4 years.
