College and University are myths in many ways. Depends what you want to have a carreer in but you don't nesessarily have to have a degree to get on in life.

Things might be nicer, more gentle in the UK, but in the US it's a dog eat less wealthy dog game out there, and if you don't have a degree you are really hindering your chances at success. It'll take luck or connections to succeed.

Not so much more gentle, just lower expectations I think though things are going the way of the US where people think they are better than some jobs. In the US you have Mexicans, we have eastern Europeans to do the jobs we don't want to do. Pretty sad state of affairs really.

I wasted 4 years at university, 2 extra years in secondary school and probably about 6 years chasing a career I ended up becoming totally disheatened with. Should have saved myself a lot of hassle and started the job I'm doing now at 16!

It's less the outcomes of attending them I'm speaking of, and more the outcomes of not attending and graduating from one. I only speak from my own cultural experience though, I know how different it is elsewhere.
