[GTAO] Best, Most Obvious Cover Spots & Hideouts in LS

Recommended Posts

There are about 127,204 really good cover spots in GTAO that I can think of off the top of my head.

The secret Mine Shaft is one of my favorites when Mercs are chasing me or if I have a bounty that players really want.
]mine_shaft_unconnected.png
(not my photo)

Others are more in plain sight, but the structure of them makes them difficult for opponents to shoot accurately through or around.

(my photo)

Of the remaining wall breaches in the game, there's only a select few worthy of using. And even with those, it's not always a foolproof place to duck out.

(my photo - rooftop wall breach that is safe and snug, except from top-down attacks, like grenades or jets)

Then, of course, there's the "passive" locations where you just don't want to engage other players, yet enjoy watching them scramble to try and find you.
The sewers continue to be a mystery to most, leaving them almost always empty and still a great place to hide, set traps, and just explore.

(my photo, again)

So, the simple question is: What (or where) are your favorite cover spots/hideouts in Los Santos, even if they're obvious and in plain sight?
And yes, the answers will vary, widely, but that's the idea - to get a full scope of how many really great spots there are that many of us may be missing.

If you happen to have photos, great – but not necessary if you can kindly leave a good description of where you're talking about.

For those of us who still love this game like it was day one (even if we don't play as often, anymore), it's always great to see things from the point of view of others.
I'm looking forward to hearing about your favorite locations!

Cheers! :)

Mine is probably an obvious one, but still fun to this day for me.Rockford plaza rooftop has to be THE best place to get a couple of mates, and play a friendly game of sniping. So many spots, great corners to scope out players and a vast area of things to use in play.

Only downside to this location is a lot of try hards and trolls use this location to snipe/explode people using the LSC near it. Additionally, GREAT spot to snipe down Oppressor and Deluxo idiots.

(not my image, but it shows all the possibilities for great shoot outs)

Isn't the mineshaft you showed not enterable?

Yeah, you can, just not where that photo was taken.

Don't have a picture but what I sometimes use (I'm rarely in stranger populated public sessions and even less often I actually engage in PvP combat) is the lengthy building under construction opposite the maze bank tower.

When people are all bothering eachother down on the street or flying low through the city, you can sometimes get a nice, cheap sniper kill or two while up there. Takes more patience than lower rooftops available because of the (draw) distance and how much ground you can actually cover from up there, but it's also pretty safe. Almost noone thinks to look up and fire back at me and most of the time they're too busy fighting other people.

IamCourtney

There's a rustic old wooden covered bridge over the Zancudo River about halfway between Stab City and Fort Zancudo. The other day, me and the rando I was working for took cover within it when two red dots in a Hydra and Lazer thought we might be easy prey. As the explosive rounds detonated harmlessly outside, Courtney took the time to admire the fine, weathered grain of the well-hewn timber, and her thoughts wandered back to the woods of her Nova Scotia childhood, of simpler days and youthful innocence...

I don't know how accurate that is...

This is even less accurate!

Now that's accurate though still lower than what the real stat is.

My favorite hiding spot is Passive Mode. It's so good to not have to hassle with other players looking for a fight when all I wanna do is drive around and pretend I'm not losing 10K each day.

Yes, I know the bridge and totally agree with Courtney. I especially like Courtney's nostalgic take on the experience, specifically with the detailed imagery in describing. Nicely done! :)

Wall breaches are for lames. Don't be lame.

I like the middle level of the construction site by Maze Bank. Popular enough spot but people can never seem to figure out how to get you out, and if things do get hairy it's an easy base jump to the street. The underground tunnel that connects to the LS River is even more popular, to the extent that it's kind of annoying, but there are few better places to drive while leaving lots of prox mines in your wake. Less used: the water tunnel that connects the canals to the ocean next to the pier. This is a deeply obnoxious spot because you can go down there by boat, then stand on the side of the tunnel and freely shoot anyone that tries to come in after you - almost impossible to counter as an attacker.

Yellow Dog with Cone

The subway is pretty underrated.

Every time there's a Hold the Wheel with a bike at Del Perro Pier, I love to take it and go to the subway entrance at Maze Bank West, almost no one gives me pursuit when I go there.

Easy win, even if the prize itself is low.

I agree that Wall Breaches are for lames – in most cases. However, there are times when you're minding your own and cannot shake an aggressive foe or group of foes that you've offended or that just want you for their K/D or ego boost, which is when a good wall breach comes in very handy, and dare I say, FUN! lol!

It's especially fun in those situations when they have no idea where you're at, yet keep coming back over and over. :)

Sounds like you have people chasing you a lot. I can't get them to chase me. If I've been in a lobby more than 5 or 10 minutes people are usually running from me. Not chasing me.

I don't actually use these spots to hole up much. My natural tendency is to bring war to the people, and I quickly get bored of camping. But if someone gets really invested in killing me, and especially if I'm outnumbered, I'll intentionally make it as difficult on them as possible.

And yeah, I get chased pretty regularly. My philosophy is "kill but don't grief," at least with respect to randoms who I have no quarrel with. And some people really hate it if you kill them once or twice and then just leave the area. If you do that to higher-level tryhards, you can expect they'll never leave you alone again until one of you leaves the lobby. I also love holding objectives in free roam events our having a bounty on me, specifically because players will come after you.

I love the sewers and subway tunnels for that kind of thing, not to mention just being very relaxed compared to the above-ground happenings of Los Santos. An even more out-of-the-way underground hideout is the subway under LSIA. It's separated from the tunnels in the city and so is even less obvious. Hiding on roofs and among the porches and decks of buildings all around the city is also pretty good.

The only somewhat odd hidey-holes I've used are the stairwell one behind a shopfront near Rockford Plaza, a wallbreach in the under-construction subway that leads to a garage interior beneath 4 Integrity Way, and a wallbreach in the side of the Lombank tower that also leads to an underground garage. I've never used any of them for PvP stuff, just exploring for curiosity's sake.

You can blow up the wooden door and go in.

I have found, quite by accident once, that if you get into a V shaped corner of some tall hedges, it can be quite hard for someone who is flying to get you out without getting shot back easily.

There are a lot of these hedges in the Vinewood Hills, just put your back to the V and wait for them to come into view.

You can whack 'em fairly easily, and if they look like a real danger, there is always a building corner nearby to give you cover, then slip back into the V.

No good against a good bomber, but there aren't that many of those often.

I shouldn't even admit this but if my perfect hiding spot gets crowded I'll know where to find you!

I like to chill / hide in an Akula on top of the IAA building

😛

it's nice and concealed and right in the city. Plus helicopters kinda blend in with roof ventillators, kinda not really.... But from there I can spot cargo and usually be behind whoever decides to chase said cargo from the core of the city. Only challenge is getting up there without getting spotted once they know an Akula is roaming.

One of the buildings on the back side of LISA that you can enter( both from the stairs on the backside or the through the roof hatch,  I have been known to hide in there at times.  Its great because you can cover both ways in from one spot in the hallway, or leave traps .

Giantsgiants

The subway tunnels continue to serve me well. Even though an entrance is right across from the Alta Street apartments, people still don't seem to be aware it exists. I've evaded so many pursuers during events such as Hold The Wheel or when I've got a bounty via this entrance.

I will park my Aku-la-la on buildings, houses, hilltops, anywhere I can sit mostly out of view waiting for a reason excuse to go kill something. If there's a griefer in a certain area I'll go sit on a roof or alley and wait for them to get in a vehicle or to get isolated enough that I can get over the top of them without nearby players getting a shot at me while I drop bombs on them like it's 1999.

I had one time that I was spotted by a Deluxo while I was sitting on the tarmac waiting for a fence jumper to get another car and try again. The guy I was watching was suddenly killed by someone not on the minimap. I checked the main map and he wasn't there. Then I saw him come over the hanger and he locked on to me (before he saw me, I'm certain) and started unloading rockets. I knew it was coming and went into passive mode before he killed me.

Situational awareness FTW.

90% of players are fairly stupid ((most) present company excluded ;) ). This probably won't be an issue as much as you think.

I mean there's two mines and this particular isn't enterable. I've just checked.
