its like the warp/rephlex/planet mu/skam stuff being called "IDM" or "intelligent dance music" lol

i associate the term EDM with garbage like Guetta/Avici/Skrillex/Deadmau5 etc though as people using the term tend to be talking about stuff of this ilk.

 

Also the term "Techno" in America seems to refer to lots of music that isn't in any way Techno...Techno is a sound that originally came out of Detroit and isn't a catch all phrase for dance music...for an example of actual Techno then look no further than the new station they added and the amazing Drexciya track "Andreaen Sand Dunes"

I think one of the things that make Rockstar / GTA great is when you listen to the radio and hear a song that is kinda familiar but still obscure enough to not be something you've heard too many times already.

 

Vice City / San Andreas were very good at this, I guess because they captured a different time.

 

IV was quite meh, but music at that time (2008) was in a very bad state anyway (in my opinion).

 

I think V has done a good job of offering some decent modern music, as well as a few nostialgic tracks, but I don't think you could ever match the vibe of Vice/San An with a modern setting (without making all stations play 'old' music)

I think it was because my 'preferred' genre is Hip Hop, and I don't think there was much decent music out at the time (within that genre). The EFLC DLC made it worse with all the auto tune bollocks

I remember I used it in a mix in 2009 but the links dead but it went well with all kinds of stuff although I had to warp it in Ableton as it wasn't made on a Grid.

I think consoles get it a good 45-60 mins before Steam too.

 

Looks like I'll be downloading on my PC and watching other people do livestreams on my phone. Hopefully I can avoid dumb mistakes like when I bought a facility at Paleto Bay...the arse end of the map...

Going back to R*s choice for the tracks and artist, I do not believe it would have been anything to do with costs. The radio added in DDH has had some great tracks and big names and that update wasn't even based around the station.

Not sure what you’re talking about there. We definitely use the term EDM in the Netherlands. Sure we are all aware their are other genres but no one will care if you say edm.. Then again we Dutch are a more chilled bunch and aren’t that hung up on terminology lol
