Avenger question for xbox

I had just bought the avenger because I was looking for a good way to kill people from the air who bothered me. Bad reason yeah but still 

 

I saw a video of someone using auto pilot and then using the gun to kill this guy from the air.

 

So I went and did that first time the guy ran so I tested the gun out it shot blew some cars up, then I finally got him in my crosshairs the instantaneous I hit him. My avenger started dropping out of auto pilot. I turned Xbox off after this

 

Was that a glitch or what?

Sounds like you were shot out of the sky / your Avenger was damaged so much the engines couldn't produce enough lift on their own, so the aircraft dropped like a rock. 

Normally the Avenger should take a number of hits (from any weapon system other than the 20mm Flak Cannon) before it's destroyed, however there's a universal aircraft armour glitch which can make aircraft randomly get destroyed much more quickly than they should.
