Prison heist Tactics

Would I be correct in thinking that the best tactic is for the pilot to remain away from Sandy Shores until the last minute, or until they've escape, and simply fly in behind fighter jets and stay there if they appear.  This leaves the demolition free to assist the escape.

If this is the case, why are there people twice as high as me in level who have not figured this out yet?

Well rank isn't always attributable to skill - I know people over rank 200 who'd forgotten how to call in their Buzzard Attack Helicopter during Contact Missions (:/) and that was one of the complaints a long time ago (back in 2015 IIRC) that there should be more statistical information to go off, when deciding if the random player who's just joined your heist will actually be good enough.

Right now we've got rank, K/D ratio, character statistic bars, we can see whether they've own a car, plane, boat or helicopter in addition to whether they're using a microphone / have voice chat connected, what crew they're in if any and what rank they've attained in that crew, and finally we can see their outfit.

There's really not much there just from that to be able to tell if the player is going to be good or bad or not.

Then you've got the PC issue of people cheating or buying modded accounts, being over rank 100 with almost no race wins or losses or not even owning a $16,000 Seashark so it's even worse over there.

...

In terms of tactics, yeah that's a pretty good idea and the one I use... I actually circle around LSIA constantly gaining altitude in the Velum 5-Seater until I reach the height limit for the mission (there's a warning about leaving Los Santos) and then make my way towards Sandy Shores but taking my time mostly.

One thing to note is fixed-wing aircraft (aka planes) have a reduced speed at altitudes lower than about 870ft (for argument's sake call it 900ft) and the P-996 Lazer can fly pretty slow w/o stalling, so if you want to "fly behind the jets so they don't chase you" it'd probably work better to be at lower altitudes, rather than like me being a bird high in the sky.

I agree with Gaffa, I timed how long it took me to fly from LSIA to the Checkpoint so I know exactly what time I have to leave while giving myself a 10-15 second window just in case something happens and like Gaffa I get up as high as I can and then I get behind the first fighter jet that spawns.

But downside is when you do this you've more or less taken away the Buzzard Pilot whole job more or less so unless you're playing with friends or a decent group and experienced buzzard pilot they may not want to follow your instructions not to shoot down the jet because doing so causes the next one to spawn meaning I have to out run that one and try and get behind it as well.

Another thing I like to do as the pilot is I'll land my plane right in front of the prison so they don't have to drive all the way back to the airport and risk a cop car spawning directly in front of the plane or the Buzzard pilot blowing up an incoming police car only for it to bounce off the ground into your path or hit the plane all.

_________

Another thing if you are selected to be the Buzzard pilot and the plane pilot knows what to do by getting behind the fighter jet and following it then you can head over to the prison and give those guys a hand by shooting rockets at targets it will help them greatly and reduce the chance of them getting killed.

But be extremely careful as the prison as Anti-Aircraft rockets so you need to do hit and run tactics.

Fly low and fast and fire as many rockets as you can when you hear that lock on target.

Exactly it would be nice to see how many heist they've completed, How many times they've died in setups and heist finale itself, how many times they quit/disconnected other games have those kind of stats to give the lobby owner the option to kick them.

I've had level 300 players who just plain sucked and then had players rank 50's who knew exactly what they were doing and never died.

I know some high level players are just trolls now they've unlocked everything, bought everything so they're bored so they join a heist and don't really try just put in the most minimum effort in order to complete it or they just say f*ck it and go running in gun blazing not caring if they die or not knowing full well we don't have any spawns left and then they quit the lobby meaning we have to reopen the lobby and hope those two other guys who joined will reaccept otherwise you'll be waiting.

I actually haven't completed the second or third doomsday heist setup and finales only the first one simply because of all the idiots I got at one point it took over 20 attempts with a bunch of difference people before I finally managed to complete the setup where you have to rescue the guy while your partner fight off the hoard in the parking lot.

I actually ended up completing it with a 11 year old girl who was a level 23 while grown men with triple digit ranks kept dying in the parking lot because they wouldn't listen and take the insurgance instead they fought it gun-a-gun

Well my honest and frank opinion is that if people really want to take the role seriously, they should take the setup / prep / heist seriously and do it as it was intended rather than taking meme vehicles or cheap tricks like using certain vehicles you shouldn't (eg glitched into MOC) or using them in areas they shouldn't be (eg armoured vehicles inside the Prison) etc and just... do the mission properly. Although, it could be argued if the Buzzard pilot helps out the Prison team, they're not doing their role anyway, "Protect the Velum".
The only issue with doing stuff 'the proper way' is the game basically feels rigged by the time you really give that a try, and by then you just feel like taking the "sod it, do it <whatever> way" approach. And of course that makes you think whether in the end there really is a proper way of doing stuff anymore.

Taking the Velum to the train tracks is handy - some cover and harder police access.
I'm almost sure the Prison doesn't have an Anti-Aircraft system though, they're just RPG's with a weak level of homing, fired by soldiers, similar to Fort Zancudo (although those rockets actually will track you). Think I remember checking that out in single player with godmode at one point.

I had Zancuda fire on my Velum after I followed the fighter back over it, I just broke left and it missed.  I think the hardest part for the prison officer is shooting the guards/NOOSE on top of buildings, this is where the Buzzard is the most use.
