Homemade Dynamite
Didn't see a topic like this, so I thought I'd make one. Here we'll post pictures of album covers and rate the ones above us on how much we like it, how good the art is, and what it conveys. Only rules are no real gore or anything like that found in black metal albums (Don't want this to get locked!), also remember to rate the cover and not strictly the artist as you're judging the quality of the cover alone. I'll start: Queen
Rhoda
I was almost certain we had a topic like this, but I must have been dreaming. Only one I found was simply sharing album covers that you found interesting. It seemed only natural to make a game out of it, and I find that the album art is just as crucial as the music itself. I'll give this one a 7, because nostalgia is a powerful, ravenous beast. I love the contrast, and the Gundam bootleg aesthetic. You couldn't get away with album art like this now. It'd be passed off as wannabe Japanese lo-fi trash.
ClassicRock
It's the pinball wizard... what more needs to be said! A solid 8... they don't make album covers like they used to, not IMO anyways. The 70's had some of the most recognizable/memorable covers. All one had to do was give a quick glace to know what it was. I miss vinyl. The full sound they provided as well as the cool artwork inside on double LP's and the occasional lyrics sheet within.

Queen
[10/10] It's powerful because you know it's a Lorde album just by looking at it. No need for her name or an album title. It just is. The cover also captures the mood of the music. Homemade Dynamite
Rhoda
8/10, I am a sucker for simple and cryptic album artwork. If you try your absolute hardest to forget everything you know about Queen, you'd be forgiven for completely misjudging what music this album featured. If I may borrow just a little from what we do already know, Queen had yet to build much commercial success prior to this, so for many this would be the first experience they'd even had with the band. I love the contrasting colours, and there's confirmed evidence that the band's photographer drew inspiration from the movie Shanghai Express, particularly this shot. Queen weren't too keen on the idea at first as they felt it was too pretentious, but obviously the iconography grew on them because it directly inspired their video for Bohemian Rhapsody. Sorry, I waffled and broke every rule in the topic. I just thought it was interesting. My rating still stands based on appearance alone.

Rhoda
I have no idea what album this is, so that's probably ideal when it comes to an unbiased rating of the artwork. To me, it looks like a bulkier Beastie Boys, setting off for paths unknown. There's a mixture of determination and confusion, so this either spells a new direction for the band (if this even is the band) or a stylistic shift that fans may find polarising. The two often overlap. I imagine those who are into this band would find the artwork exciting. I'm not so keen on the painted style though, I think it dates an album and not necessarily in a good way though. I'll give it a solid 5.

Rhoda
7 from me, reminds me a lot of Rene Magritte's work in how Tyler's face is obscured by a passing bee. I like the innocence.
Jerking For Soup
8/10 Looks artistic and expressive, exactly what album covers should be. However, I prefer something more minimalist, more eye-catching and memorable. Edited July 29, 2018 by ∴ Fixed image extension
Rhoda
7/10. This album cover (and the other variations used for MBDTF) are nostalgic to me for some reason. I was never keen on the album itself, so it's a good job I'm just rating the art! I think this actually does a better job of representing the artist than most - a sword straight to the ego of the self-proclaimed king! I love that shade of red too, just dark enough not to make your eyes throb. I'm also a sucker for painted clouds. I fixed your image by the way - all you have to do is paste the link and the forum will embed it for you automatically. Neato. sivispacem
7/10. A great cover spoiled by the need to add the "Bad music for bad people" subtitle. Rhoda
Love the textures at play here, and the colour is great. There's enough ambiguity in the shapes underneath to add to the unease. You're not sure if they're people, faces or something else entirely, even following second and third looks. I feel like you could be listening to this and catching a glance of a shape you hadn't noticed before, even after seeing the album art dozens of times. I'll give it a solid 7. Jerking For Soup
8.5/10 I love the simplicity of it but my only criticism is of the font used. It looks too basic, like default fonts used. Conici

Rhoda
8. It ticks all my boxes - it's minimal, it's clean, it has a pattern and is directly related to practically any genre you could throw at it. It's a blank sheet music album cover! What's not to like? This could be anything and I say that because I genuinely have no idea what it is. All that being said, I do wish it was just a touch clearer in terms of who is behind it. It reminds me of when I was in college, I used to go to second hand CD shops and buy albums solely from the cover alone. I was almost never disappointed and it was testament to how my taste changed and developed. A name I could read at a glance would be lovely though. Rhoda
3/10. It reminds me of a bootleg deck design from a bottom shelf PlayStation 1 skateboarding game, or something a vaguely talented kid would draw on his school folder. I know of the band, and I know of the style, but it doesn't cast nostalgia for me. I didn't care for it then and I still don't unfortunately. A redeeming quality though? I like the shades of green being used I guess.
