Missing money with a property trade in. Help!

I just traded in a $800,000 property for a $400,000 property and I thought I was suppose to get the $400,000 back and I didn't. Was I wrong? Am I missing something? I need help!

Usually, you are indeed supposed to get any surplus back.

 

But to clarify: Was $800,000 the actual sum offered in the trading-in window (it should have popped up after hitting 'buy')? Or is this just the price you know the traded-in property is listed on Dynasty8 or Foreclosures?

 

For this is how the trading-in thing usually works with, say, apartments: You'll get about 50%(?) of the traded-in property's worth, so that's your 800K already down to 400K checked against your new purchase (400K), in which case at least you end up paying $0. Also keep in mind that if you have bought the old property on discount back then, it will be that discount price being processed, no matter how much the property is listed now, so your 800K property probably just netted, say 300K, and you paid the remaining 100K to your new property's price.

I'm not sure about the specific rates, but I hope you get my point anyway.

 

Have you kept track of how much money you actually got deducted from your bank account?   

 

If the game really messed this up, you should by all means open a ticket with Rockstar Support (Social Club). They take their time, and have a history of very, hmmm, "brisk" customer communication, yet they do work on things like that, apparently.

In the window, it said $400,000, but I didn't pay enough attention to the rest. So I could have missed something. Thanks for the help!

If the purchase price of the old property was $800k, you will get a $400k refund

 

If the purchase price of the new property is $400k, you will pay $400k

 

The refunded part of the old property will pay the full price of the new property 

 

You will not get $400k for the new property AND $400k refund 

 

If the new property was $300k, you would get the property paid, PLUS a $100k refund
