Tracksuit Hitman
DayZ.com/Experimental // DayZ Development Board // Feature Content Goals I'm super stoked. I gave up on DayZ years ago and haven't really been keeping up with it since. I started testing out the stress tests that they were pumping out and boy have improvements been made. There's still a lot of work to be done, but to anybody that's seen the state the game's been in over the last couple of years, it's fab. Thoughts? Will you give it a go? aka geobst
OurJud
I've followed this game for years, but only ever watched gameplay because I don't have a PC good enough to run it. These are not criticisms, but I would be interested in some answers. Out of curiosity I typed DayZ 0.63 gameplay into my search engine and noticed a few things. Has the first-person model been changed? It now looks really weird the way your character holds rifles in first-person - like there's far too much of the left arm in view, and like the weapon is being held away from your body. Also, why is the water bottle held away from your face for the drinking animation in first-person?
Tracksuit Hitman
Animations are being worked on and so I'd imagine the first person issues will be too. I'm kind of 50/50 because they've come back and said this before, but hey ho. If you check out those content goals you can see what they're working on for Beta. They're trying to crack that out by the end of the year. aka geobst
OurJud
I think the first-person animations looked much better before this update. Not quite sure what they're trying to achieve now. To me the first-person now looks broken. Edited June 15, 2018 by OurJud

No. As I say my interest is purely in watching gameplay. If I had a PC that could play it then I’d invest more time in learning about its development. Tracksuit Hitman
OK, well you're obviously going to pick up on bugs of an Early Access game if you're only watching gameplay videos. They haven't claimed that this version is a "finished" version of DayZ; there's a lot of features that're not included as they are being worked on, as well as items/loot including some weapons. If you have a look at the dev board & content goals which are linked in the OP of this topic you'll see that they're working on animations and whatnot. I have hope in the dev team that they'll stick with it this time. They've acknowledged their mistakes and are doing their best to keep the community in the loop, which is refreshing given the state the game has been in over the last several years. aka geobst

I understand that, but unless they've scrapped all the first-person animations and decided to start again from the ground up, the point I'm making is they now appear broken, whereas they weren't before. I've always admired Arma/DayZ because of how differently it handled a first-person perspective. It's all based on real-life, unlike AAA console shooters which all follow a template (where one of the rules seems to be that the weapon must be in view at all times, even when sprinting, because research has shown that players get confused if they can't see their weapon under their nose the whole time. Also all console first-person games have a 'fixed head') But Arma/DayZ recognises that when sprinting with a weapon in real life, it drops down out of sight and swings around your midriff. It also allows players to move their head independently to their body, and I love that. But now, the way your character holds a gun just looks wrong, and my question is why did they change it?
