is it safe to quit entire game if GTAO gets stuck on top-down-sky-view loading screen?

so occasionally I get stuck on the top-down sky loading screen in GTAO on different scenarios - loading freeroam, loading a job, whatever - and I let it go for like 5-8 mins and decide it's time to close out of GTA 5 and re-start the entire game.

 

Am I putting my online characters or stats at any risk by doing this though? I try to be patient and wait it out until it's like almost 8-10 mins and realize it's probably not gonna load... Although I've let it sit once for well over 10 minutes and it did actually finish loading whatever it was doing.

 

Any advice on what you would do? Not like it's a constant issue, but happens maybe once every day or two. Often enough tho that it is a significant issue and I don't want to corrupt my characters

You can quit your game anytime, nothing about your char will get corrupted.

 

If you can quit with the combination Back + RB or Select + R1 or the home button, and then select Quit Game from the Drop Down Menu, everything is fine. But i would try to avoid to just kill the process by just shutting the console off or killing the application in Task Manager or whatever.

I try to avoid it, but sometimes it hangs for like 10 minutes and gives no indication that it's still working.

When i'm stuck in the clouds I normally Alt F4, then back out of the quitting screen to save it one last time before actually quitting the game. Just to be safe.

Never had a save issue.

By 10 mins it's not working it's just a cloud simulator

One way to know if there's any chance of loading in (at least on PC) is to try to text chat. If you can text chat you are technically in a session and from my experience writing something in chat has triggered the connection to spawn me in the session even after minutes, not always but sometimes... or it's pure coincidence.

 

BTW I consider myself a pro at cloud surfing, at this point I wish they'd just put me in the black loading screen of despair instead of in those damn clouds.

I've only had to close it a hundred times or more so I can't say for sure, but I think you'll be fine.

 

Also, I've never stayed in the clouds for more than 3 or 4 minutes. Any more than that and I close the app and restart.

 

10 minutes? Fawk that!!
