Can't seen to find relevant data to edit in weapon.dat, is scripting required to archive this?

You will need a script in order to do that because even if every weapon it's in the same group, each one uses its own ammo.

Its like this:

Cake's Candies = 3

Pizza's Meatballs = 9

Now you can't share the stuff they got, cuz the Pizza's taste will be vanished and Cake's sweetness would be dead.

 

If you can't understand it, here's a relevant one:

9MM's bullets = 9

Silenced 9MM's bullets = 2

You can't share the ammo they got, cause in normal game's scripts, you can't share things of a group to another group.

 

So..

The game doesn't have the feature of that, its not programmed to do that! If you force it somehow, it'll be like "I..I don't know how to make you switch ammo! Blame the developer not me that he haven't added that feature in me!". Lol, of-course mods change the gameplay experience, so you'll just need a mod / script to do that.
