Nutduster Posted June 15, 2018 Share Posted June 15, 2018 Was anyone else a bit underwhelmed by the last game? It was a good effort but some aspects felt off to me. Combat was weirdly unimpactful - as violent and fast as it was, half the time I didn't feel like I was killing anything, and when things started killing me I wasn't always aware of it until it was too late. It was energetic but not at all visceral. I also still miss the more colorful look of the original games... making Doom all monochrome orange and brown really takes away from it, for me. Yeah, I've noticed certain games do this on PS4. I can't even hear the TV it's that loud. Starting to wish I got a Pro. The Slim is a bit quieter than the OG PS4 I had, but the fans still rev up with certain games. I think it's unavoidable. OT: Doom Eternal looks amazing by the way. I love the fast paced shooter gameplay. Just looks like a complete blast once again. Will probably wait for it to go on sale though. I was really pleasantly surprised by how good the DOOM reboot was. Excalibur Voltaire Posted April 5, 2021 Share Posted April 5, 2021 Just noticed this thread exist and I'm surprised nobody commented ever since Speaking of which, I have just finished the main story and got all the collectibles and I just gotta say this is probably one of the best games I have ever played. It improves everything that makes DOOM 2016 amazing, while also adding new great things. I’d say definitely give it a go especially when it’s on game pass. If you haven’t played Doom at all before, you’re in luck. Doom 1, 2 and 3 are all on Game Pass. DE is truly one of the best FPS games that came out in 2020. It’s very exciting and the game requires you to learn the mechanics and once you do, you’ll have even more fun. The game be extremely challenging for first time players so I recommend you play on the easiest difficulty. It’s not even a bullsh*t challenging kind of thing either, with enough practice, you’ll probably be good enough to play Nightmare difficulty. Its a blast ripping through enemies and that extra kill option(whatever its called) just feels and looks great. Crazy ass weapon add ons. It is a blast. This thread made me revisit the opening sequence...fnatastic! It's the smoothest, super high action shooter out there. I don't know what the frame rates are but they feel beyond capable at points...if that makes any sense. If there is a place in your heart for the old Doom games this has all the needed elements and feeling. My only complaint is there are some platform'y sections that don't need to be there. Some painful platform'y sections. Believe it or not, all versions of the game (except the Switch version) all run at 60 FPS, which makes the game way more fast paced than it already is. Am I really the only one who didn’t care about Eternal’s platforming? 2016’s platforming was awful so Eternal actually improving upon it was a godsend. I have the base game and all DLCs, and have done/achieved almost every PS4 Achievement and ingame Milestones (basically challenges) sans Ultra-Nightmare stuff. I've completed the main campaign alone like 10 times, with TAG2 at least 4. Nightmare'd the base game roughly 3 times, and both DLCs once each. Beaten all 3 on the Extra Lives setting, mastered the use of every weapon (sans I guess Mirco Missiles and Mobile Turret, mostly because the former doesn't really fit my playstyle and the latter is f*cking useless). As if I wasn't a DooM maniac, Eternal skyrocketed that sh*t to the abyss and back. This game's a f*cking masterpiece. How it didn't win a single reward I'll never know. 1000000/10 right there.
