Dying light 2

Story's pretty weak according to some reviews. Perhaps throwing away Avellone for nothing wasn't such a great idea.

I've got it installed (series x) but I haven't bought it.  Stop me from pulling the trigger today...it would be too easy since I have the excuse "it will give me something to play this weekend".

Reviews can't be trusted anymore so I need real anecdotally gathered feelings from normal folk.

Under a microscope reviews can't be trusted but if you take notes of what they're all saying you can generally get a very decent idea, and I do genuinely think aggregate review scores tend to be accurate nowadays as well.

Dying Light 2 is currently sitting at 76/100 after 109 reviews, 70% recommend. Technical issues and story issues sound like the biggest issue. Parkour system and combat are getting high praise.

Definitely looks (from what I've seen) and sounds like a game I'd be interested in but yea I think this will be a wait or discount for me. I did watch a bit of Digital Foundry's deep dive into the visuals last night and the raytracing implementation here looks to be one of the best so far, console has it to do a degree but it lacks the ray traced global illumination which is the game changer for the game on PC.

Yeah, that's what I've gathered.  Still...  Is parkour fun enough to keep me involved for 60 bucks?

Such a crap ass rainy winter day here.  Work motivation is low.  Bet ya 20 bucks I succumb and pay to unlock my pre-install.  I'm weak...

Well...I'm not disappointed with the purchase.  I'm only like 2 hours in and it feels like the kind of game I need right now.

So far it seems slightly less overwhelming with things to learn and new mechanics compared to the first Dying Light.  The opening pace is way less then the original too, which is making it an enjoyable experience for me.  Chill, enjoy the pretty world, learn the basics, kill a zombie now and then.

Recently I've been paying attention to the evolution of God glow and DL2 handles it well I think.  You get that 'special vision' option that seems popular these days - blue'ish waves emitt from your center- highlites items of interest - you know the deal.  What I do enjoy is the highlight goes away quickly after the blue waves disappear.   As we gain all this graphics fidelity the more and more I like my game environment not to have glow'y, LOOK HERE things sh*tting up the scene.

So far this game is hitting the spot, but I am early in...talk to me in a day after it has time to annoy me.

"Detective mode", as I call it from when it was popularised by the Arkham games.

I cannot f*cking stand it and it's bloody difficult to name a modern day open world game without it

And what's annoying is, and RDR2 reportedly was one of these examples despite having the detective mode (albeit more for hunting tracks), these games will all be looking at Skyrim as an example of an interactive world where you can pick up things etc and guess what, Skyrim didn't have that sh*te, neither did Fallout 4 and I'm hoping neither does Starfield.

Wow somebody made an almost 14 hours long playthrough, pretty nice with no commentary. No annoying "hit like button and subscribe" BS, just the full game yeah nice.

I'm really enjoying it.  (So far) it has the right amount of crafting, an uncomplicated skills tree, and a best of breed in open world mechanics to give me a nice connection to the game.  The environment is nice and feels lived in.

I don't see all the complaints about the story...it's working for me...moving me along with a nice variety of missions.   This might be one of the first games where I actually buy stuff from the merchants...I'm really starting to get that "I live there" immersion.

This game is really hitting the spot for me...and I've been game cranky lately.  Honestly I'm surprised.
