GTA VC Special Vehicle Guide

If you deserve the credit for a vehicle, just inform me and I will credit you.

Former GTA VC Special vehicle Guide
Russian GTA VC discussion topic (foreigners, use google translate)

Acronym Legend:

BP = Bulletproof: This vehicle will not take any damage from bullets. The tires are not affected by this property.
FP = Fireproof: Driving through fire will not ignite the car. Entering the vehicle whilst Tommy is on fire will make set it on fire, though.
EP = Explosionproof: Explosions affect this car; it won't move, nor will it take damage.
DP = Damageproof: This vehicle is immune to collisions of any force. It won't dent, nor will it explode. This property doesn't protect boats and bikes. DP also includes "Meleeproof".

AP = Allproof: This vehicle is BP, FP, EP & DP at once.
UC = Unique Color (1): The vehicle's primary color is special and can't be found on it according to the carcols.dat
UC2 = Unique Color 2: The vehicle's secondary color is special and can't be found on it according to the carcols.dat.
Unique = Unique Model: This term refers to the vehicle's model and depends on whether the vehicle can be found in traffic or not.
NE = No Extra: The vehicle has no "Extra", it's missing certain components. A good example for this is the lightless Taxi.

Mission
RC Raider Pickup

Method 1: (for PC only)

Requirements
 - Something to set om0
 - Sunshine Autos bought
 - Sunshine Autos save icon replay

Start the mission, fly the RC Raider to the Sunshine Auto's garages and when the timer of the rampage hits one second, enter the suicide cheat, or if you use a phone call, enter the cheat first and then release the call shortly after. Keep the RC Raider airborne until you finished approaching it on foot. To accelerate this, you can also collect the save icon via replay and teleport there. Then fly it into one of your garages and destroy the Raider by pressing the "shoot" button. When it explodes, activate the replay and save your game. Make sure that Tommy won't fall from the explosion or the icon won't be picked up. Before the fade ends, you need to reload the game, or else it will crash. If it crashes, it's not too much of a problem. Load the saved game and check your garage for the RC Raider.

Method 1: (for PC only)

Requirements
 - 1102 Washington Street bought

 - Ocean Hights Apartment bought

 - 1102 Washington Street save icon replay

 - Ocean Hights Apartment save icon replay

Start the mission with a rampage running. Get into the Top Fun and wait until the Rampage timer runs out. In the meanwhile, you can fly to the bridge near the Hardware shop that leads to the 1102 Washington Street Apartment. Then teleport to the 1102 Washington Street save icon via the replay and fly the RC Goblin to the Hospital (as close to it as you can). After exchanging the replay in your user files enter the suicide cheat and fly the Goblin to the Ocean Hights garage. You need to keep close to Tommy as there is a "range" limit. When you reach the garage, fly the Goblin inside, explode it and save via the replay when it blows up. Make sure that Tommy isn't blown of his feet as if he falls over, saving is impossible during this animation. Also, you have to stand inside the garage so the door is opened until you save. After this is done, immediately reload the game and check if the Goblin is still there.

Mission

The party

Method 1:

Requirements

 - Something to set om0

Simply dupe (= start it twice without failing the first instance) "The Party" and enter the marker at the Colonel's boat with the vehicle that you want to convert black. You can then decide to either pass the mission or convert more vehicles by failing the mission. (Make note that this method adds permanent blips.)

Method 2:

Requirements

 - Something to set om0

Start "The Party with a rampage running, head for the clothing shop, change your clothes there, and wait for the rampage to expire. Then start "The Party" again and enter the marker at the Colonel's boat with the vehicle that you want to convert to black. Once you regain control over Tommy, kill Mercedes. (If this is your last vehicle to convert and you want to pass the mission twice, you can just drop her off at the strip club as well.) This part is crucial for the conversion to work: you need to have this ped model loaded, otherwise the game will crash when you proceed to the next step. Loading it is simple, you just have to find it randomly on the streets (it's more common to spawn at night time). On the PC version, you can even mark it if it spawns inside a vehicle: shoot the car and when the ped gets out, press F1.
When this is done, you can continue. Enter the clothing shop marker and head for the Colonel's boat again. Make sure that you are not inside a vehicle when you enter that marker or else, the conversion won't work and the vehicle you entered the marker with, the second time will spawn instead. After the cutscene, there should be a black vehicle parked in front of you. (If you converted a police vehicle, it will be locked and you will have to push it to the next garage.) You can now either pass the mission (the second time) by dropping Mercedes off at the strip club if this is your last vehicle or you can fail the mission by killing her.

Mission

Phnom Penh '86

Method 1:

Requirements

 - Optional: store your precious weapons at a security gate

 - A phone call (If Avery's call is answered, just use one of the Phone call mission calls

 - Grenades (Can be found here: https://media.discordapp.net/attachme... )

 - You have to buy Hyman Condo

 - You need to collect at least 80 Packages

 - Don't complete all rampages

You have to reduce Tommy's health and drive to Diaz' mansion. Now you have to manage to start the mission and to die during the cutscene of  the Maverick starting. You can do so by timing the rampage timer and the call timer and then throwing a grenade or you can park a car near the entrance and start the mission during a phone call. This will allow you to skip the call by pressing the enter vehicle button and then committing suicide with the throw of a grenade.

After you respawn back a the hospital, hold the next incoming phone call and take a Taxi to Diaz' mansion and get your Seasparrow. Then follow the Maverick to Prawn Island and kill all waves of enemies spawning (with the Seasparrow) until you get to the "You're on my turf" cutscene. During this audio line, release the call and pick up a save icon to regain vision. The minimap should help you navigating. From now on, you have to watch out to never have the first ring of the phone call end. Or in other words: immediately cancel the call once it comes in.

Get back to Prawn Island with a sniper rifle (you can get one on the rooftop of the Hyman Condo safehouse) and shoot Lance. Then steal the Maverick, park it in front of Diaz' mansion and start Phnom Penh again and pass the second instance. Afterwards, you will spawn back near the Maverick. Take it and store it in one of your garages.

Spoiler

Mission

Demolition Man

Method 1: (for PC only)

Requirements
- 1102 Washington Street apartment bought

- 1102 Washington Street save icon replay

- Ocean Hights apartment bought
- Ocean Hights save icon replay
- something to change the on mission state

Start Demolition man and change the on mission flag to zero and make the Top Fun van burn so it is on very low health later on. As you don't want to have the Top Fun van blow up on you, you have to enter it before it explodes and fails the mission. Instead of picking up a bomb, you go directly towards all the workers and attract their attention so they follow you. Fly towards the bridge that leads to the 1102 Washington Street apartment and ascend until you reach a decent hight. You always want to have the workers following you. When the RC Goblin is above the bridge, simply activate the saved replay and teleport to the 1102 Washington Street save icon. Now you need to fly the Goblin to your Top Fun van without losing/killing any of the workers. Once there, make the workers attack the Top Fun on accident when they try to hit the Goblin. This will explode the Top Fun, setting Tommy free. Now you have to control Tommy and the Goblin to your Ocean Hights apartment. In the meanwhile, you can put the Ocean Hights save icon replay into your user files. When you arrive at your garage, you have to fly the Goblin into the garage and destroy it. The moment it blows up, save the game via replay. Make sure that Tommy won't fall over from the explosion as this prolongs the icon pick-up. Before the fade ends, you should reload the game as otherwise, VC crashes. If it does, no problem, load the save anyways and enjoy the Unique RC Goblin.

Mission

The Driver

Method 1:

Requirements

- A Rhino

Before attempting this, you have to store the Rhino in the Vercetti Estate garage. After you started the mission, head for the mansion, get the Rhino and blow up the Sabre Turbo when it approaches the Starfish Island bridge by bumping into it. Push the wreck to the Vercetti Estate garage and restore it. Watch out not to look away from the wreck as this will make the Sabre Turbo disappear.

Method 2: (for PS2 original only)

Requiremens

 - A sniper rifle

Instead of racing Hilary, go to the finish line and snipe him the moment you see him. To make this easier, you can use the adrenaline pill located behind the house that Gonzales was inside. When the body drops out, you need to keep the door open because the Sabre Turbo is locked until restored.

    Chapter 5: Unobtainable vehicles:

        RC Baron

Spoiler

Mission
Bombs Away

Chapter 6: Additional Tips & Tricks:

        Manipulating the on mission flag

Spoiler

Introduction:

This game has a certain flag, the on mission flag, which determines whether you are on a mission, or not, or whether you can start another mission or not. Manipulating this flag is fairly easy.

Guides:

On game versions which don't have the replay feature, you will have to rely on the save icon + vigilante glitch: You start out on on mission = 0 and park a police car in a way so that if Tommy were to get out, he'd pick up a save icon.
Then leave the car, quickly reenter it and time the sub mission activation just right. You know you've been successful when the side mission is running and the save icon is still on screen. Now you only have to find something that sets the om flag to 0, if failed/cancelled and not a mission so the game won't crash when started with other missions. The two things to use are rampages, which due to their 2 minutes duration are sometimes useful, or phone calls. You can "hold" phone calls by pressing and holding the "answer phone" button. Make sure that it's the same button used in cars for the radio or some other function.
Bare in mind that this method adds one safehouse visit so you should resort to the method shown in the video: Instead of using a save icon, simply use a rampage from step one. This will also save unnecessarily wasted time.

With the use of replay, none of that is really essential, but works as well. You can time the end of the rampage by activating a replay which has been recorded two minutes (playing time) or more after the rampage has been started (just wait around for a couple of minutes, press F2 and reload your save). You can also start rampages via replay by recording a replay whilst standing on a rampage icon. If you combine this replay with a mission start and fail either the rampage or the mission, you will be on om = 0 again, even though a mission/rampage is running.

        Ammunation Menu

Spoiler

Introduction:

The ammunation menu allows you to teleport from any point to an ammunation or toolshop.
This is especially important for teleporting during the stadium missions but can also be used to obtain certain vehicles.

Guides:

Of course, the setting up method varies from version to version but here's the general method:
1. Park a bike next to the ammunation marker
2. Get into a taxi
3. Start Taxi-driver
4. Look back
5. Get out of the taxi
6. Enter the ammunation marker
7. Release the "looking back" button(s)
8. Get onto the bike
9. Drive into a wall behind a saveicon so tommy falls directly onto it
10. Save and reload

With replay, you can also just do the taxi driver part, play the replay of a save icon and then save & reload.

On mobile, because of the autosave, you can just shutdown the app after you've done the Taxi-driver part and upon restarting it load the autosave.

        SSU

Spoiler

Introduction:

SSU (=Script Stack Underflow) only works successfully on PC due to the tool shop clerk timer being bound to the timer which is determining the started/unlocked mission, which isn't the case on other versions.
With SSU, you can unlock certain missions and you can start missions without having them unlocked by passing the mission chain like normal.
This grants you the ability to unlock Back Alley Brawl without having passed "An old friend" and "The Party". This way, you can convert vehicles to black at a larger quantity when the bridges are unlocked and you can purchase all garages.

Guides:

To pull off SSU, you have to first create a replay of the Skumole shack buy icon and a rampage icon way in the future. Keep these files backed up outside the Vice City User Files and for the time being only paste the rampage replay into the folder.
Start a new game and head to the pizzaboy next to the pizza parlor in Vice City beach. Get onto that Pizzaboy and start the saved replay, wait a few seconds for the rampage to appear, cancel the rampage with another replay and then immediately activate another rampage.
Do repeat this until you have 10 instances of pizzaboy running, then destroy the Pizzaboy.
Now you have to somehow earn $1000; do this by robbing the tool shop near Avery's property. (Make sure to bring a police car.)
After you've robbed the tool shop, leave the circle which spawns the clerk for 45750-45929 ms; yes, milli seconds. After the waiting is over, enter the circle inside the police car, hold down the submission key, replay buy the Skumole Shack during the "you can save your game here" line release the submission button and immediately cancel vigilante again.
Now four things can happen:
1) Back Alley Brawl starts. This is a good outcome, although you can't keep the phone pick-up on the map forever.
2) Back Alley Brawl is unlocked. This is the best outcome you can get because you can keep the phone pickup intact forever.
3) The game warps you to another mission. A bad outcome, but you maybe can work with it. Save the game and check out the situation, maybe you can work with it.
4) The game crashes. Too bad, try again.

If you get 1) or 2), just pass "Back Alley Brawl" and continue with the mission chain. Make sure not to start an old friend before having completed all Lawyer missions and if you want to convert cars to black, don't pass "All Hands on Deck" as this deletes the yacht, crashing the game each time you try to complete "The Party".

        Changing islands early

Spoiler

Introduction:

Changing islands early on is mandatory for a starter save and in order to maximise garage space early on, you have to somehow get to Downtown and buy Hyman Condo.

Guides:

The easiest way to get to the other island early is by glitching through the bridge that is connecting Prawn Island and vice city Mainland.
But you can also glitch through a upper part of the right hand side pier's gate with the use of a large vehicle as ramp.
On PC, it's even easier, just replay buy a safehouse from the other island and you'll be teleported there or use a PCJ and drive through the barrier next to the Ocean Beach hospital.

Videos:

        Transporting vehicles across islands early

Spoiler

Introduction:

Transporting vehicles is step two of maximising storage capacities early on.

Guides:

You can always use packers to jump onto bridges, bypassing the invisible barrier or push vehicles by boat but this is time consuming. With bikes, you can drive through the prawn island bridge.
Ob PC, all this isn't remotely necessary. All you have to do is activate a save icon replay of a certain safehouse and get into the same area as the save icon

@Argonautt
I have downloaded the images already but I am unsure if they fit the purpose. I'd like to try them after the main structure is done but as of now, the "Exclusive Color", "Exclusive Color 2" don't fit. (The "EC" term is not precise as it argues on the level "If I can't see you, I am not here".
If they look well, I will keep them and maybe you can provide "Unique Model" and "No Extra" as well. ;) For the colors, I could color the squares in the according colors from the carcols.dat file.

Hey guys! I appreciate your work, but I'd like you to know, that some of the vehicles in the guide were first obtained by me, including:

UC Black Stretch (Four Iron)

UC Black Stretch (Demolition Man, breaks 100% completion)

EP/FP Hotring Racer

UM/EP/FP Hotring Racer A/B

BP/EP/FP Sanchez (Dirtring)

UM RC Baron (RC Baron Race) + Flying

I shared this with the Russian community at PG a long time ago. I admit that some of the videos you use are more informative and better executed.

I've also got some alternative ways to obtain some vehicles:

UC Black Pony & Admiral, UC Striking Blue Maverick (Loose Ends)

UC Gold Stretch (Recruitment Drive)

BP/EP/FP Sabre Turbo (The Driver)

Sorry if it was already known. Keep up the good work and good luck with further findings!

Here's the VC Special Vehicles thread at PG. It's kinda dead these days, but I believe the rest of its active part is pretty much aware of this thread too because that's how I got here🙂

You can study it yourself if you wish. It's in Russian, but vehicle and mission names are all you need. So basically if you see a Playground after a vehicle name it means a member of the community found a way to get it. And a Playground means a method without cheats was found. The credits are given at the end of a method description.

Hey, great work compiling these, i've been a long time special car collector, however i didn't come across this page until relatively recently, so i mostly used Gamefaqs guides both the first time i played both Vice City and SA and during the subsequent years, so this is terribly informative. A question regarding the UC/UC2 Black Conversion method, from what i read in the original (now locked) thread, a part of the method's explanation listed the following:

Quote

You can make a total of 24 EC Black Vehicles per Save, but if you use a Replay Marking Glitch which is only on PC, so with that you can have 44 Vehicles per Save.

I know it's possible to store a maximum of 24 Black Vehicles if you use the InterGlobal Films Studio's Packer to jump with your black vehicle into the Mainland (if it's fast enough to get into the studio), storing it into Hyman Condo, however i'm uncertain of what this "Replay Marking Glitch" consists of, since to my knowledge the Sunshine Autos Garages don't become available until much later into the mission progression line.

Can someone explain?

Edit: Question solved

This Guide says you need Cheats to obtain the EP/FP Hotring Racer from Hotring Side Mission.  Maybe back in 2002, lol...

It also says FR discovered how to type in the Health Cheat in a 2002 game to renew the Health on the Hotring Racer since he simply can't comprehend how to get it under the Stadium WITHOUT Cheats.  He somehow discovered it, too, says this Guide, yet he wasn't.  The old Guide you reference?  It has the ORIGINAL Video showing how to get the EP/FP Hotring Racer in a Starter Save, plus my Video, since it's the only Method to show REVERSING to get the Hotring Racer under the Stadium, which IS the best Method from experience.  I have far more success with reversing than driving forward.  Plus, the guy who made the Video originally (4emp2008) says in the Description who discovered it and when, but that requires people to actually read.

Guide says nothing about the Unique Love Fist being PS2 Only.  Says nothing about the Top Fun not spawning on the Beach if you want to obtain the Unique/EC RC Bandits, etc, etc.  Nice...

More Information = Healthy Guide.

Less Information = Unhealthy Guide.

I don't know how many times I made it clear that the MORE you write, the BETTER your Guide is.  Since, as you said, you're a noob and don't understand some things.  This is EXACTLY why you need to write and show EVERYTHING in a Guide so people understand everything.

Just because a game like VC has been out since 2002 and you'd EXPECT a GTA Fan and Special Vehicle Collector to know such things in an 16 year old game, doesn't mean that is the actual case.  You write for the noobs who are NEW to Special Vehicles and collecting so they understand everything and won't have to redo their Save over and over and can just get it right the first time through.

Hello @ArcboundX,

I am sorry for the unfinished guide; I could make up excuses but the truth is, my life isn't only dedicated to special vehicle collecting so I kind of put things I considered more important first. Unfortunately, it's not getting any better so it will stay this way for a couple of months, though I aim to have it finished by new year.
In the spoiler, you can find all your questions (hopefully) answered.

This is true, but very complicated. I myself prefer to use SSU to jump to back alley brawl and simply unlock all the garages without passing "An Old Friend" (If you delete the boat by passing the Colonel mission string, the game will crash on "The Party"). This allows me to unlock "The Party" later in the story-line allowing me to convert 44 vehicles.

Speedrun that shows the process but with warping to "Keep Your Friends Close" (just wait about 45750 until 45929 milliseconds outside the tool shop clerk spawn radius after robbing the tool shop instead of 53475 until 53716 milliseconds ;) (the part where Rok collects the hidden package):

Spoiler

Special thanks to Patrick B. for providing a detailed how-to explanation on SSU:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1N8MMK_m3chT15FnAgUuM34_rnwkRytGmmgIVPYH-dmM/edit#
This exploit was found by Nick007J, Husho & Patrick (sorry for leaving out anyone who worked on it as well, please forgive me :(

The marking glitch that the former guide writer refers to is easier to perform, but I never kept 20 vehicles in memory at once so I don't know whether the game crashes at this number of vehicles spawned during missions that require more vehicle slots or if at this point, you are able to spawn further vehicles to convert at all. Ignoring that, the whole process is taking ages plus that vice city is pretty prone to crashing would make it a great task. Of course, if you want to only keep fewer vehicles in memory, that works without going at the expense of your sanity.

To mark a vehicle of your own, you have to find a thief who steals your car first. Then you let the thief steal your car (blocking it first is recommended so he won't drive off) and shoot the car slightly (you don't want to destroy it, obviously). This will make the thief get out of the vehicle and during the exiting animation, you have to press either F1 or F3, which play a replay. This will make the ped stand next to the car and not move at all. Don't enter the vehicle if the driver door is glitched, as even though it's difficult to do so, it's not impossible and if you manage to get inside, Tommy won't leave it when you use the leave vehicle button.
A safer method of marking is well-shown in this video. This does not require shooting and damaging your car but your timing has to be more precise.

I hope my bad English and partially too technical explanations are not that disrupting while reading :D

Thanks for the indepth explanation @Lennart -, i understand the process now, pretty incredible how far car collecting has gotten in the last years, i'm not a native english speaker either so coming across guides such as these came pretty late for me, as such i was never quite familiar with some of these advanced mechanics before. Do take your time to solve your personal issues though, the guide is coming along nicely, so i'll be looking forward to see how it progresses further, same as providing feedback in the future.

Best of lucks and thanks again 😁

First off, stop acting like a b***h. You should not dictate how the guides should be written and how will players play the game.
Second of all, don't y'all actually write for the newbies who just got into special vehicles so they can obtain them?
Third, this guide, even without some of info(which will most likely be filled in later), already looks better than Sprite's, mostly for the fact that this guide does not have unnecessary long walls of text and it looks more clean.
Fourth, errors are a part of every guide, essay, text, hell even life itself and should not be criticised madly like you do, they will be fixed don't worry.
Fifth and final point, start to give out constructive criticism like a mature person you should strive to be, not like a butthurt person who just popped a Xan.
