PS2 v... PS2 slim

Recommended Posts

Genuine question (and not a console v console v PC for once): is the picture for both far and slim consoles the same? I only played SA on a slim console, and it had that beautiful orange tint to everything. Am thinking of buying myself a console (and I thought I never would), but the only cheap one I found is a fat SP2. Do you know if the output image is the same on both consoles, or different since I assume they are using different hardware?

Obviously it is, also PS2 FAT models are better than slims ones.

Wasn't obvious to me :p That's like assuming an MSI computer is the same as Apple, just because they are both PCs.

But thanks for the input, going to check the connections on my telly this evening, and hopefully buy it.

That's senseless, like comparing apples with oranges. While all retail PS2 models has the same hardware.

Yeah, but how would I know? I know nothing about consoles, and the common sense tells me that if you can pack everything into a smaller box why would you make a bigger box for it? Surely there must be some hardware differences.

To my knowledge, the only "real" difference is the Slim does not Fail from Overheating.

Otherwise the output is identical.

Thanks! Collected the console this afternoon, now just need to get a new (not greasy!) controller, a copy of the game and a SCART cable converter :D Angel Pine, here I come!

I'm not a hardcore gamer, so hopefully it won't overheat. The fan at the back is impressive compared to the slim version that my brother had ages ago.

I have played SA on both PS2's, the only real problems with either is one is more accessible than the other.

And yes, the the slim version isn't as cool as the 2000 model.

In the past, with the slim, sometimes the DVD's aren't spinning, something to do with the tray. I got that in early 2015, so it is preowned. Still working, don't use it much.

GTA San Andreas was in fact designed for original fat PS2. Just read the instructions in the game manual.

When I played on SCPH 70000 slim the game constantly ran into disc read errors. Very first time I put game disc in I got the message "disc tray is open" when it was closed. Disc errors got so annoying that I bought the fat one.

Fat PS2 played fine and stable for about 3 months until it couldn't load the game anymore. Other PS2 games it played fine except for SA.

Lately I got SCPH 90000 slim - it has greatly improved load times. Game plays perfectly without issues. I gotta say the best PS2 model,

I think you had a defective machine or Disc.

I used both PS2 fat and thin, PS3, PC without problems.
