Anyone knows what ''You have to love yourself a fire.'' means?

So this expression has been used multiple times now in the trailers of RDR2. I don't seem to understand it. Any help?

Thanks y'all.

a fire can helpf against the cold, it is comforting, useful, it can help shine a light. the way that line is delivered the fire is simply being praised, like, "who doesn't love a good fire on a cold night?!" etc...

because you need it when you're hungry and need to boil water in a pot, for example

something like that? it's just my "take" on it

Many of the dialogues between the characters in the trailer don't appear to make sense. Rockstar  is just trying to throw in some wise ass one liners. But, if I have to guess what that means within the context of the trailer it is said, then it seems like another way of saying that life is tough, and fire is referred to as a blessing for some reason that we can only understand once the game is out. Maybe "Fire" symbolizes some kind of change that happened during that time in the context of gunslingers and outlaws.

In Western classical tradition, it was the secret of fire that enabled progress and civilization, representing knowledge. However, it is also represents risk of unintended consequences and over-reaching of humanity into dangerous areas of knowledge. Dutch opposes technology and governmental control, so from the little that we know, I think that Dutch values human progress, but simply wants to restrain industrialization and modernization because he believes it will harm society.

I think the frequency fire was mentioned shows it will be important. My guess would be that its a tool Dutch (and gang) use increasingly. That fire becomes part of Dutch's is growing madness and the use of it is what will turn some members of the gang against him.

Yea. It is possible that fire could be a tool as an important gameplay feature in game that Rockstar is trying to suggest.

Similar to FC2's fire system

I mean, you don't need to interpret too much into it....he says it himself clearly, with little to no space for any misinterpretation

"You have to love yourself a fire. It's one of the blessings.

Sure, we can have fire... And we can have the knowledge of fire...

But with that comes the knowledge of everything."

basically: fire is good, but there's a flipside to it, so fire can also be bad.

kind of like the internet, I guess

Might be from a mission where they're sitting by the fire, and they throw some deep quote in context to a story happening. Wouldn't read too much into it.

The quote comes from a mission where dutch and arthur get snowwed in over christmas in a log cabin and go crazy but finally as they are on the brink of freezing they finally rip the floorboards up and get a fire going. Then Arthur says "Dutch we gon' burn dis whoal house daown like this. That or dah of smoke inhalation" then Dutch looks at him with anger in his eyes and says "You have to love yourself a fire, its one of the blessings!"

Maybe the entire plot will revolve around fire?

The plot is said to revolve around the Van der Linde gang after a failed bank robbery. Maybe fire was the reason the robbery failed?

I don't know, just my 2 cents.

I guarantee this quote will be from the gang just sitting around the campfire.....

Sometimes its just a quiet, lonely evening next to the campfire. On those cold nights there's no saloon girls around, so a man has a choice between loving himself or getting overly familiar with his horse, if you take my meaning. The fire is what happens if you love yourself too frequently.

Where I grew up, loving yourself a fire is for the way a fire can bring people together. It always creates a sort of intimate bond with those around you, getting to know them sharing stories or conversation. At least that's what I connect it with when hearing it and watching the scene with Hosea and the gang around the camp fire

Technique of making a fire. You have to rub the flint and tinder just the way two lovers rub themselves together. hence "love yourself a fire" 👉👌

It just means  "You gotta' love the fire", but since it's trying to sound all 1800s talk, they say it as "you gotta' love yourself a fire". 'Cause people back then didn't really speak english well.

Fire's are dangerous.  They can destroy homes.  They can kill people.  But at the same time, they're a necessary part to life. Giving us warmths. Cooking our food.  Keeping us alive.

@e1999KrayzieBone This is my interpretation as well. I don't think it has any literal meaning concerning fire, but instead something along the lines of "Find what you love and let it kill you".

"[In order to] stay sane in a civilized society, you've got to burn intensely for what you believe in."

''We can have the knowledge of fire but with that comes the knowledge of everything''

Hes talking about progress of modern civilization during that time which threatens him and his gangs way of life.
