LongLiveJojo
Hello, I'll be trying to complete GTA III from start to finish. The graphics are very sub-par compared to the newer releases such as GTA V, but I've never completed III and I need to! Any tips for a new player? GTAKid667
GTA III is a great game, so I'm glad you're thinking about going back to complete it. There are a few things that I suggest you watch out for, particularly if you're planning to do a complete 100% Playthrough of the game: Locked Missions If you complete missions in the game in a particular order, you can get 'locked out' certain missions and not be able to go back and attempt them because the story has advanced and the character giving the mission may no longer be in contact, or may be offering new missions making their original ones unavailable. This prevents 100% Completion from being possible. The following is a list of all of the locked missions in the game. As a general tip, because you'll probably be unaware of when the certain missions I mention become available, I'd recommend doing every available mission for each contact that unlocks in a row. So, you should do all of Luigi's ('L' on the map), Joey's ('J' on the map), Kenji's ('K' on the map) and Asuka's ('A' on the map) as soon as you see them appear. The following missions must be completed before "Last Requests" before they become unavailable: "Pump-Action Pimp" (Luigi Goterelli) "The Fuzz Ball" (Luigi Goterelli) "Dead Skunk in The Trunk" (Joey Leone) "The Getaway" (Joey Leone) The following missions must be completed before "Waka-Gashira Wipeout" before they become unavailable: "Kanbu Bust-out" (Kenji Kasen) "Grand Theft Auto" (Kenji Kasen) "Deal Steal" (Kenji Kasen) "Shima" (Kenji Kasen) "Smack Down" (Kenji Kasen) The following mission must be completed before "Grand Theft Aero" before it becomes unavailable: "Two-Faced Tanner" (Asuka Kasen) Completing Side Missions Early If you're going for a 100% Playthrough, I'd say that this is a very important point to note. It's recommended that you complete all Side Missions in the game as soon as you can, specifically missions such as Paramedic and any of the collectables on the first island (Portland). After certain points in the story, some gangs will become hostile and carry powerful weapons making some areas of the city dangerous to travel in, and often leaves you dying rather quickly just by passing through them - For missions like Paramedic, you can't die or else you fail the mission. If you do them right at the beginning of the game, where the only hostile gangs are on some areas of the second and third islands (Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale), you should not have a problem. Marty Chonks Missions In case you are unaware, there are missions given by Marty Chonks at a Payphone in Trenton, which become available early on in the game. There isn't a notification on when these become available and there is no marker on the map for them, so they're easy to miss and if you're going for 100%, you won't want to miss them. You can check this video out below for where the marker is, the missions become available after "Drive Misty for Me". Emergency Vehicle Crane You get 5% for completing the Emergency Vehicle Crane at Portland Harbor, but a lot of players can miss out on this percentage because they leave the area too soon. As a general tip, if you decide to deliver any vehicles to the crane, be sure to wait until the vehicle has been transferred to the ship and you have been rewarded for it. Those are the main points I can think of. Otherwise, GTA III is a rather straightforward game and should be easy enough to complete without any issues. Hope you have a fun experience playing if you decide to go for it! Paisan™
If you are on PC, I suggest mods such as the Widescreen Fix and SilentPatch. The Widescreen Fix makes the game fit your display correctly (so nothing is stretched) and SilentPatch adds some removed PS2 features and has some general fixes. You can't go wrong with these mods. Widescreen Fix: https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp SilentPatch: https://gtaforums.com/topic/669045-silentpatch/ Some additional mods you might want to have a look at: https://gtaforums.com/topic/558110-4x-street-object-draw-distance/ https://gtaforums.com/topic/555946-reliii-gta-3-natural-hd-textures/ Ash_735 and mde2
Jack Lupino
Glad to hear i am not the only one who plays this game in 2018 My advice would be complete all side missions like vigilante, paramedics and firefighter immediately after Luigis Girls.Dont delay too much as Leones and Triads will become hostile towards you and it would be hard later. You can also try to reach 2nd and 3rd island early by using tunnel glitch and collect all 100 hidden packages. This will supply you with plenty of weapons and will help you a lot later on. Money isnt a big problem in this game so leave the rampages to complete after beating the storyline(this way you will have something to do when you finish the game) Lastly you can use mods like widescreen fix, unreal car reflection, vegetation mod etc for better visuals. Happy Gaming! LongLiveJojo
LongLiveJojo
Appreciated for all of the information given, I've actually locked myself out of a few missions already but luckily I had a save to revert back to. I've read through all of the posts and I have to say that this community is very helpful!
GTA_CAT
Also remember to watch out when some band hate you, you will be shot, attacked or kicked off your vehicle. The most dangerous is the Mafia. Mafia mobsters bring shotguns which blow up your car in 2 shots or kill you in seconds. Furthermore, sidemissions (except paramedic) are not required to be completed in a single row such as 20 Firefighter or Police missions of each island. Concerning sniper rampages, they are tricky because you must headshot, otherwise it doesen't count. In more general terms, you won't dispose of the map when playing and the radar does not show some icons. I advise you to learn the map and some key spots, thing that will come useful for some missions. LongLiveJojo
Evil empire
If you play on PC some mods and the ultimate trainer will make your game much easier. You can also replay the missions with a mod.
LongLiveJojo
Damn that was one hell of a ride, just completed the game no cheats for the first time in my life! Had a couple of rage quits here and there but overall very nice game to kick off the 3D era. GTA_CAT and GTAKid667

Lioshenka
DEFINITELY as everyone else have said do the side missions first. I'm pretty confident that it is impossible to do them after you upset the gangs (or maybe it is possible, but it will frustrate you greatly). For me the biggest challenge is not being able to look around or bail out of the car while driving, but you get used to these. If you're after some atmosphere then I'd recommend some running around on foot and listening to the pedestrians and city noises. I think GTA 3 had this done better than any other GTA. You don't have to run everywhere, but I'd take a few strolls around the Red Light district, down the seafront path by the Stadium, out and about in Shoreside Vale. Shanks3d2y
Thanks for the tips. I'm planing to complete GTA III (and all other iterations) in the near future to 100%. It's a shame that I've never finished III as I got stuck at one point (I was really young with no english knowledge), gave it up and never get back to it. Actually I had a hard time in the last mission, I always failed for some reason I couldn't understand and since I was younger I ende up losing patience. Last year though, I tried again and did it.
