Assassins Creed Odyssey

Recommended Posts

Laker23

Details are pretty thin apart from this tweet, but this is what the guys at Kotaku are saying about this:

Seems like it will indeed by releasing this year by the looks of it, as these games usually fall around October/November.

Spoiler

Rumors about the next Assassin’s Creed have been circulating for months now—some real, some fake—but the one we’ve been hearing since January from our own sources is that the game is indeed set in Greece, and that it’ll be even more of a drastic departure for the series than Origins. We’ve heard the same details from three people who have played the game, and several more who have heard about it secondhand. While Origins added Witcher-like RPG elements, Odyssey will take things even further, those people said, bringing dialogue options to the series for the first time. You’ll be able to play as either a male or a female protagonist, although the builds we’ve heard about did not feature Origins’ main characters Bayek or Aya, but new heroes.

Two of those sources confirmed that Odyssey will be out during Ubisoft’s 2019 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2019.

From Reddit

We got another one, this one is similar to the previous 4chan Odyssey rumor but has some additional stuff in it.

https://i.redd.it/i5evnhcgluy01.png

- Takes Place in Greece during Flavian Dynasty

- 2 Playable characters, but can only play one per play through. Character's have intersecting but different stories, different forms of Eagle Vision, different skills, etc.

- Naval has a massive return, see below

- Unity style customization with massive improvements

- Return of Social Stealth

- Return of Brotherhood System

- Return of Renovation System

- Crafting is massively upgraded

- Fight mythical beasts and legendary ship battles

- Return of smoke bombs

- Return of Weapon Wheels

- Mix between parkour and origins style tombs

- Coming Holiday 2018

- Map involves Achaea, Macedonia, Epirus, Thrace, The Aegean and Ionian Sea, and Asia. Much like how Unity had districts split in 3 sections, each Roman State is divided into several regions. The map (sorry about poor quality) shows the region of Attica (Athens) from the Roman State of Achaea.

Apparent map

- Target system works similarly to Ghost Recon Wildlands, meaning not all targets need to be taken out before taking out the main bad guy. Only 3/6 "states" need to be liberated. The characters will often have different targets, except the state leader, which are major points of intersection.

- Templars/Roman Clients are using an apple to oppress people for Vespasian and his "propaganda machine"

- Naval has a huge amount of customization. All upgrades to your ship are done in game only but more cosmetics are available including flags, sails, paint, crew customization, emblem customization, and "shanties". Some options such as crew outfits, emblems, flags, sails, and shanties will be available in the store.

- On top of this a fleet system will be implemented, where the player can give commands to AI ships that can be ordered to sail with you. Some missions and optional battles will be fleet based rather than single ship on ship, and you have the option to upgrade your fleet ships for resources and money as well.

- On top of emblem customization, the player can choose from some color pallets for the robes and change torso, arms, boots, and belt. These changes are merely cosmetic.

- Players can blend with crowds, individuals, mounts, static objects. Most of these have special animations like you might have seen in Discovery Tour. Some civilian boats can also be blended with. A disguise system is also present, similar to Unity.

- Players can recruit crew mates, buy crew mates, buy other factions, or recruit brotherhood members. Most brotherhood members will appear on your ship or in your hideout. Some members are recruited through special missions while most are random encounters while liberating regions and states.

- Once regions have been liberated some shops can be renovated and landmarks purchased. This will obviously generate income, which is useful as upgrades become expensive for your fleet, brotherhood, and crew.

- Crafting returns to upgrade health, physical stealth, damage from range and melee, ammo quantities, and weapons. All upgrades take materials and some money. Weapons can be upgraded at any time by a blacksmith and can be brought up in rarity along with having different elemental stats tacked on, including sleep, bleed, health drain, poison, flames, frost, and shock. Bombs can be constructed again as well, allowing for creation of distraction bombs, stun bombs, and lethal bombs. Most consumables can be crafted as well, including throwing knives, berserk darts, sleep darts, and arrows.

- To allow quick changes in tactics, weapon wheels return.

- Replayable missions are coming back, as is an option to reset locations. As a result, NG+ is not returning, especially since players cannot carry over anything between characters.

- Modern day gameplay exists, but isn't too much more than Origins.

- Made by Montreal team 1 (Unity team)

- Aya/Bayek have similar role in story like Altair did in AC2

So it looks like we're going all "THIS IS SPARTA!"
Would have preferred the Japanese Shogunate but this gives them a great excuse to recycle a lot of assets from Origins at least ;)

Kinda surprised this is a thing so soon, Ubi kept implying that there would be no AC this year. Not sure going back to annual releases is the best thing for the series but we'll see. It's release date will be interesting, October is well and truly covered and early November is not gonna be a great place if RDR2 has the legs everyone expects it to.

Yes, I called it. I knew the next game or the game after will be set in Greece. I had my cards on a continuation of Bayek/Aya's story though. Maybe just Aya.

One day they might make an AC game without all the Templar crap, and I might actually want to play it. But I'm afraid the historian in me took one look at Rodrigo Borgia shooting laser beams from a magical apple and just tuned out completely.

Assassins Creed Origins was they best game I played in 2017, so I can't help but be excited for this. I think for a while AC grew really stagnant and was essentially a copy and paste year after year (in terms of gameplay) I mean, I still bought every single one, because I do love them, but they never really grabbed me like the first 3 games.

AC Origins introducing a lot of RPG elements really worked for me, and I can honestly say it was my favourite of the series so far, the story wasn't as good as the Ezio/Altair era, but the gameplay and world made up for that, I hope they continue to expand and grow the games with Origins in mind.

It seems really weird that they would make a game called Oddysee which is a sequel to a game set around 50 years BC said to be set in Ancient Greece but largely concerning the Roman Empire/Flavian Dynasty that makes reference to movie about the Battle of Thermopylae in its teaser trailer but here we are I guess.

Well, well, well, Ancient Greece is it? What's next? Feudal Japan? Looks like the devs up at Ubisoft are really keeping up with their promises. IIRC one of the devs said something in lines of 'that he would rather see his grandad turn in his grave three times than do Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Feudal Japan'. For now 2 times 3 = 6. Nice one grandpa.

On a more serious note though, I'm glad that they're focusing on AC series more. Origins was simply fantastic and I do hope that those leaks become true, because what it says in there sounds freaking amazing. Seems that the things they said wouldn't fit with the series fit great...

"Return of social stealth" does this mean we can blend into crowds and be conspicuos again? Lame how they removed that from AC really. AC online was truly unique and tense because some people would try to move just like the AI and hide themselves deep within crowds. Quick escape methods and little chase scenes were great. Social Stealth is like Assassins Creeds whole identity as a game.

"Naval has a massive return"... God dammit i hated Naval warfare or even moving my ship on Assassins Creed Black Flag. f*ck naval.

Literally couldn't agree more. That is the main reason I couldn't get get into Black Flag.

i loved the ship in BF. i mean how are we supposed to explore?? and if they do things right, and add a captain's cabin, with a bed and all, it could be simply fantastic

Black Flag was amazing and naval battles were dope as f*ck and I literally never got tired of them. I could replay BF now and have a blast. However, naval battles only worked because of the setting. I don't think that naval battles are something people think of when they think of ancient Greece, or ancient anything for that matter.

there were some epic naval battles during antiquity. if you add different types of galleys, scorpios, greek fire, maybe it can be cool, i don't know. but one thing that's obvious, it's that ships were fundamental in antique Greece

I wonder if they'll include the giant mirrors the Greeks used to burn a Roman fleet?

*cough* Greek Fire *cough*

Ships were fundamental and specific for that age. It's when people had some of the first trading routes, fought battles, colonized and met different folk. It's not that acient.

Probably a bit too early for this kind of speculation but what do you guys think will be the next setting? I really doubt it will be feudal Japan since it would be too close to the timeframe of AC1 meaning that if this is a prequel string then FJ would need to be the last. It would also be too similar to Ghost of Tsushima which will probably only be out a year or two beforehand.

I think this timeline will get a trilogy, with the 3rd game set in acient Rome. Then we'll get another 2 year (plus?) break for the game after.

Bayek, Aya and the next protagonist(s) will have cameos in the 3rd game. Hell, maybe even run it pararell to Origins' ending if you know what I mean.

AC Odyssey will not be in the same timeframe as Origins since by that time there was little left of the Greek Empire apart from their influence on Rome. It's far more likely to take place much earlier when the Greek Empire was prominent. If the leaks are to be taken seriously and the title is taken more literally it would have to be.

Someone with more knowledge can probably tie in the soldier's armour in the teaser with a more specific era but it certainly isn't running parallel with Origins.

Apparently it takes place during the days of the Flavian Dynasty which existed from 69-96 AD. I'm guessing towards the end so that's around a 150 year gap. If they follow that pattern then that would put the next game in or around the mid Third Century AD. Personally however I'm hoping for the Viking age (which began around 800 AD). Or maybe even a game focussed on the Gauls (who already appeared in Origins if you remember). Then probably Japan.. if they want to join up with the timing of the first game (and possibly even run parallel).

If they do Japan I want to see The Meiji restoration period when the Samurai were all coming to an end.
