Anyone point me in the direction of a good guide/video online for a newb like me? Main issues I'm coming across is lack of water, stimpacks and bullets. Yeah, I know it's a survival game and that's the point would love some tips for securing my future in the wasteland by making some right moves early on to make sure I'm set up.

I haven't really decided on a build, yet.  Been mostly levelling up Intelligence and Luck. Wouldn't mind building an Entrepreneur character. Found this one here...

For those who'd like a future as an entrepreneur, take a look at this build. Specifically crafted for trading gear and materials to other players, this build helps to craft high-quality items that you can sell for a pretty penny - er, bottlecap.

[credit to Jordan Forward for the build]

STRENGTH - 13 (Bandolier 2, Ordnance Express 2, Pack Rat 3, Strong Back 3, Traveling Pharmacy 3)

PERCEPTION - 4 (Butcher's Bounty 1, Crack Shot 2, Green Thumb 1)

ENDURANCE - 4 (Ghoulish 1, Adamantium Skeleton 3)

CHARISMA - 13 (Bodyguards 4, Happy Camper 2, Hard Bargain 3, Travel Agent 1, Lone Wanderer 3)

INTELLIGENCE - 14 (Batteries Included 1, Exotic Weapons 2, Gunsmith 4, Makeshift Warrior 5, Science 2)

AGILITY - 4 (Light Footed 1, Dead Man Sprinting 1, Thru-Hiker 2)

LUCK - 5 (Can Do! 1, Good With Salt 2, Pharma Farma 1, Scrounger 1)

Source

Not sure what the best thing to do first in order to get me set up for water/food/bullets/necessities

First thing todo is collect lots of water then boil it up, collect the blue soot flowers and also the red things that float on lilly pad esque things in rivers. You can then craft healing slaves using a chemistry bench they're a good place to start as stimpacks can be an arse to find. Also collect anything with steel in it and also lead, paint cans are good for this you can then craft the ammo you need for your weapons of choice using a tinkers workbench.

Ignore the title of the video you will only find the small purifer plans there but it's a start.

@OysterBarron¬†Excellent, thanks. I'll start with this. Should have got on that a bit sooner than trying to take on level 50 Sheepsquatch and wasting bullets and resources! :D¬†ūüėõ¬†

What you need is soup, any kind of soup it gives both food, water and hp.

Visit player camps, they usually have crops you can take to make soup, also a lot of players have unlocked water purifiers so take what you find.

Many players have decontamination showers, so use those to save radaways.

And don't forget to sleep when you see a bed, sleeping regenerates your health.

Like Oyster said above, pick up all steel and lead you find for ammo, you also need gunpowder.

Tin cans are good for steel and lead, if you find can shime traps disarm them for tons of steel and lead.

Also I don't want to be "that guy", but the build you posted looks terrible imo.

Sure it's probably good for carrying more stuff than anyone could possibly need, why someone want to do that is beyond me though.

He don't even have starched genes. lol

*edit*

Also double xp weekend is now live, so make sure to play as much as possible. ;)

@Mister Pinkerton

As I said before I'm heavily reliant on cards.

Pharma farmer and scrounger in luck keep me going on stimpacs/chems and ammo respectively. Remember the button prompt though.

Frequent runs through Morgantown airport help. Each one of those hangars have multiple chem boxes. Also I swear the only way you get chems out of a doctor's bag is through pharma farmer. Also the collision course event seems to always be going off at low levels, that should also get you purified water. And don't for get the hot dogs in the far north west corner by the plane wreckage (as longs as people aren't still grinding their backpacker badge)

Butcher's bounty in perception for food, once again remember the button prompt. My secondary characters survived almost completely on mole rat chunks. And considering the +1 strength for a half hour you get from them they are damn well worth it.

About your build

Spoiler

Your build seems to be based around survival cards. Those cards should be secondary, you're primary focus should be on skills.

Btw, those cards are fine, just don't build around them.

Also when using skill cards, realize that having all three cards, say rifleman basic, expert and master gives you more damage than rifleman basic maxed for the same amount of points. Only after getting all 3 cards then think about leveling them up.

Endurance is probably the only special you should have survival cards on. Have room for fireproof, once it unlocks scorch beast screech damage becomes a joke. Then you can choose between ironclad for damage resistance or radicool for more strength with more rads.

In strength once again most of those cards are secondary and should be equipped when out of combat. In combat strength has the most diverse perks. Here you can have a melee build, shotgun, heavy weapon or PA builds. But do keep traveling pharmacy (just not active unless fast travelling), can't tell how much those damn stimpacs weigh.

Perception is about rifles, if you're going to use them, you'll need more points.

Charisma is about in a group, since I'm solo I have just enough for hard bargain and run lone wanderer and animal friend when I'm not selling. I probably will regret this when Wastelanders arrive.

In intelligence I like a nice balance of makeshift 3, gunsmith 3 and demolition 3 and first aid 1 for 10 points. I do have makeshift and gunsmith maxed too but only activate those when crafting. Also remember to level up fix it good and weapons artisan to repair armor and weapons to 200%  but once again only have them active when crafting.

Agility white knight is a must for me. It increases armor durability and reduced resource cost when repairing. Ballistic fiber consumption is ridiculous without it. Also I use shotguns so enforcer even at level 1 stops most things in their tracks.

Luck is either about vats and/or mutations. I went with mutations which means most of my points are used up with starched genes to keep them and class freak to reduce the negative attributes of having them. I switch over to scrounger and pharma farmer 1 when in the forest. There are some great damage avoidance cards too if you look to build up luck more.

For bullets, running out of it is normal in the beginning. That's why I recommend at least carry 1 melee weapon. Anything that you deem useful, my favorite is Spear or Pitchfork. So when you're low on ammo, switch to melee until you collect enough or have enough mats to craft ammo (steel, lead, gunpowder) + plastic for shotgun shells) or loot some other guns off a dead enemy to use temporarily.

For water, collect them Woods from tree logs and lumbers, then collect some dirty water as well. Cook them, you get Boiled Water. Also keep an eye for free water in train stations. You can also install water purifier in your CAMP.

For Stimpaks, it seems needed, but actually not. So alternatively for healing, cook some meats instead. Cooked food gives you bonus buff as well, so it's win-win.

My best suggestion for healing and water is to take a Workshop because the reward is various and you may get Stimpaks, RadAway and Purified Water. You don't have to build your Workshop with some funky stuff. Just claim it and go.

When the Defend mission comes, do it, especially when the enemies are animals that you can grab the meat and cook them for heals and Hunger. For example, you could get 20-35 Mongrel Dog Meats in one Defend event. At that point, your Stimpaks will be spared and stocked because you eat food instead.

This is how I play my secondary character (level 25; rarely play it because I hate redoing something from square-1) and I have some Caps and enough Aid supplies. Ammo, yes, it's scarce for me too. But all above is basically what I'm doing in the game.

Okay I don't know what your plan is with this cited Entrepreneur build, but this is unsafe. From what I see, you wouldn't be able to defend yourself and you'll be playing as resource harvester and (travelling) merchant. That means you're gonna sell primary needs to players, such as, Stimpak, RadAway, Disease Cure, Addictol, Ammo, uncommon Junks (Aluminium, Copper, Ballistic Fiber, Gear, Spring, Screw, Ultracites, Flux) - while non-Legendary weapons and armors can be sold to Robot Vendor or lower level players since end-game players seek Legendary stuff.

Unfortunately, frankly speaking, you don't need a specific build to do all that.

So massive lugging and extra harvest would be your specialties with this build.

@jollythecat Visiting player's camps has become quite fruitful. It's almost worth the caps to fast travel to collect some harvest.

@luisnikoAs for the build, yeah, I didn't deconstruct it or scrutinize so much. I just liked the idea of the entrepreneur. But now I can see you set up vending machines to sell your wares so, yeah.. points taken. ;)

Take a Workshop?  Had to google it. OK, will do that. Thanks

Last night, I just went exploring, scavenging, leveling-up and resourcing. Finally collecting and brewing soups, getting drinkable water and now I have a few stimpacks. Going to do that few times and before I start going on missions again. Just building up some stock before I go out.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Fallout community is so helpful especially for half-wits like me. ūüėõ

The button prompt will appear when ever you search a medical container (mirror, doctors bag, health box, and also the yellow boxs) it will show down the bottom right of the quick loot box that shows you what's inside. It's not very obvious and unlike previous fallouts it wont automatically just spawn your extra items in a container youve to press the button prompt in order for you to do a thourough search of the box.

And melon juice, very good stuff. :)

It regenerates health for a decent amount of time, it will save stims for sure.

If you find a melon, don't eat it, plant it at your camp and when it's grown harvest it and plant a couple more.

When you look at the eligible container for the Perk (e.g Pharma Farma = aid box, bathroom mirror; Butcher's Bounty = animal corpse), you will see extra prompt under the quick view window, like (X)Take (S)Transfer (T)Search. Press the Search and if you're lucky, you'll have extra item to take.

What's my excuse?  Haha.

Noob asked me if I could help home out with gears, screws, and springs last night.   Hooked him up with 100 of each for free.  He was happy.

Double xp is right. I must've leveled up 5 times in 3 hours.

Although I was doing WS runs. I was trying to do that one weekly as I was fortunate to have a bloodied boxing glove on a bloodied character.

I got that boxing glove challenge too.

One of my melee characters have an instigating +40% swing speed boxing glove, it's a bad ass weapon.

Probably my favourite weapon across all my characters.

Swing speed makes it almost as fast as a knife, so taking out crowds of enemies is a walk in the park. :)

The boxing glove is quite rare though, so finding a good one can be hard, that's probably why I never see anyone using it.

Damn... I always ditch boxing gloves.  I'm far too much a creature of habit it seems.

Lastnight was the first time I got ganked at a workshop I took.  I was like "what the f*ck"!?

So knocked out the boxing glove challenge finally. Left last night with one to go. Took 3 hops to finally get legendaries to spawn and even then it took until a 3* for it to count.

Then the game decided to continue to thwart me. I thought I'd get the pics in the savage divide.

First I went to middle mountain cabins where there usually spawns either rad scorpions or honey beasts. Today it was honey beasts. Lol

Ok I thought I'd trek up to that little rest stop where either a Yao Guai or a deathclaw spawns. Either would work in this case.

What do I get? A scorched megasloth.

I guess the game thought I had enough atoms. :)

At least I got more requirements for my tadpoles badges.

Speaking of megasloths, when are we going to get megasloth gauntlets? We have deathclaw and mole miners (which are made of mole rat teeth apparently lol)  I could even loot the claws off his body. Those things are so big, it'd be like walking around with 5ft long blades attached.

Well I'm anticipating an independence day update so I guess a download next week is viable but I think this week would be better.

The Patchnotes could be public any minute from now on.

  • Spectator Mode:¬†At the end of a match, a banner now appears for Spectators indicating who won.
  • Spectator Mode:¬†The game camera no longer zooms for Spectators when the player they are watching looks down a weapon‚Äôs sights.
  • Spectator Mode:¬†The Red Skull icon that marks a player‚Äôs death location will no longer appear for the player who was killed. Instead, it will only appear for their teammates.
  • Stats:¬†When the final enemy on a team is killed while all of their teammates are in the downed state, the kill credit for the downed enemies will be awarded to the player who originally downed them as long as that player is still alive.

I think that "Exploit: Addressed an exploit that could allow items in Player Vending Machines to be duplicated." is what caused all the server crashes and whatnot.

Status can be checked here

Edit: I think the servers are much more stable now.

Man i hope the update makes the servers more stable again, it was a nightmare, sometimes disconnects like every 10 minutes,

Do we know if server stability is platform  dependent?  I'm on xbox and not a whole lot of disconnects.

Last night was a great night in the wasteland for me.  My job life is crazy and lastnight I was finally able to disconnect my brain from my real life existence for nearly 5 hours straight.  Not one disconnect.

I was so immersed that I wasn't even just doing my fast travel routines...I was walking to train station, happily seeing structures in the distance that I can walk to and scrounge.  It was great.  5 hours!

I'll edit in a pic in a  min

What's the deal with this lemonade stand?  Why does it have new vault tech balloons?  $50 a glass?  What the f*ck?

They've been in for a while now i assume the ballons are to attract attention. I've seen 2 stands now one down from the legendary station and the other was above watoga. They both had lemonade and lemonade recipes for me.

"Made from locally... Sourced... Ingredients"

And don't forget hard lemonade. It's a random spawn, at one time just as sought after as Grahm, the wandering responder vendorbot and the tourist. I never understood why.

As for the prices, part of Fallouts parody is extreme economical inflation. Everything is overpriced but the only thing I can think of is giddy up butter cup is like $15k.

Where did you see a buttercup for 15k? lol.

They sell for like 4-5 caps at vendors, so the value can't be more than 20-25c.

Sure they are good for scrapping, possibly the best item to scrap for junk together with carlyle typewriters, but 15k, omg.

I've seen people selling perfectly preserved pies for 25k and I even seen some selling one raw fertilizer and one salt for 25k, but that's obviously a joke.

A bad joke but if they find it funny so be it, just makes them look childish imo.

I mean prewar. I remember in 4 finding a buttercup promotional poster and that was their price.

I'm kind of upset with myself I can't quote fuel prices at red rockets.

I sure hope there's no good specials in the atom shop. I can't get in.
