Are there only public workshops? Or do private/personal workshops exist? If a workshop I own gets attacked and I lose it, do I also lose any progress I built up on it?

-All workshops are public.

-However! There are resource nodes spread around the gameworld. So you can build your camp near a resource node, and build an extractor on it, and then it'll be your private "workshop". (I did this with great success with a Junk node near Deathclaw Island. A remote location on the map, not frequently visited, never had any issues with anyone ever attacking it, not even monsters. And since I play pacifist, people wouldn't be able to destroy it anyway)

-The stuff you build up in the workshop will remain there unless it was destroyed; so if someone took it from you, you can take it back and it'll be in the same state the previous player left it. This is great because you'll always find workshops partially built up. Once I got the Ammo Factory and it was fully kitted out, with extractors, turrets, generators, it was great.

-Having said that, the progress is attached to the server. So if you take a workshop, and log off, that workshop is no longer yours. It'll still have all the stuff you built up, though.

Are workshops more of a long term investment? Or is it more along the lines of a daily quest sort of deal? And how often do public workshops get contested by other players?

They are a mix of both. Workshops will generate resources over time; from steel, to ammo, to anything. Each workshop has their own set of resource nodes that you can exploit with extractors.

They are also tied to a "claim workshop X" quest that appears after someone has abandoned a workshop or monster succeeded in taking it. This will give you caps and some decent rewards.

They're also used for the "defend the workshop" quests which gives you more rewards and a chance to kill some stuff. With some nice turret placement, it's good experience.

They aren't contested often at all, since there's so many of them most players would rather just take a new one as opposed to taking someone's.

Quote

Are the resources made by the workshop actual physical objects that you physically pick up and lock into a container?

Resources are objects just like any other object in the game. Iron, steel, junk, copper, oil, ammo etc. You pick them up just like any other item, put them in your inventory or in your camp box for safekeeping.

The way extraction works is simple:

-You place an extractor on a node

-You power it with a generator

-After some time, extractor will make some resource and store it

-You loot the extractor, and get the items in your inventory.

Is there a link to the patch note page for that pacifist update? Can you truly not be killed or is there still some form of accidentally entering PvP? I know nothing about the game and I'm trying to google this update and all I'm seeing are people talk about stuff such as walking into someone elses camp and having pvp activated, or something about "slap damage". Basically, stuff that would imply accidental pvp is still there. So seeing the actual patch notes would help me out.

The changes took multiple times. You'd be confused reading jumbled up text of Patch Notes.

Basically the current state of Pacifist Mode is like this:

- I turn on Pacifist Mode = I can't 'slap' you.

- You turn on Pacifist Mode = you can't 'slap' me.

- No slap = no PvP (in Adventure Mode)

- No PvP = no dickhead destroying your CAMP for giggles and sh*t

- You have Pacifist Mode on, but you STEAL someone's locked item = you get Bounty = open for PvP

There is no accidental PvP anymore except trolls getting workaround to 'disable' your Pacifist, such as:

- You team up with A. Then A perform PvP with his (ungrouped) friends B, C, and D.

When this happens, you will be open for PvP as well because of your teammate A is engaged to PvP.

- You own a Workshop. Then A, B, C, and D contest it. Contesting Workshop will disable your Pacifist, opening you for PvP.

Except these jackwads don't really want to takeover it, so they keep failing the takeover for the sake of killing you.

Every Workshop is public. So you can benefit someone else's Workshop as much as they can do to yours.

However, if you want to 'private'-ize them, you can install lock at the resource facilities. Others still can picklock it, but that's considered a crime and will attain the thief a Bounty on their head.

If your Workshop gets attacked (by NPC or Player) and you were unable to defend it, you LOSE the right to build it. You still can benefit from it, just not build it.

Technically, none of your Workshop progress will be gone once it's taken over by someone else or you quit the game. They will stay in that server you were in for another player to use. This is why you may come across an unoccupied built Workshop that will cost you higher Caps to claim.

Regarding the frequency of getting Workshop contested, I can safely say that so far I've had far more people coming by to help defending my Workshop instead of taking over it, because they get reward from the game for participating in Defend Event. This game has a strong PvE community, so stay in Adventure Mode, although I can't really guarantee that for the span of the Free Week.

Is there a way to accidentally join a team? Or do you have to go through a menu so they can't accidentally make you join a team?

So will there be different modes again? 76 year 1 and 76 year 2? It sounds as if everything that came before will be wiped clean. How are we going to handle nuked when npcs are involved? I mean there'll be no problem for people who identify with the raiders and the enclave but BoS never really seemed totally heartless to me

Wastelanders, as it suggests, seems to be a continuation to the main quest, with the world progressing and human NPC coming in after reaching a certain main quest point. Don't know how. Probably there will be unselectable split server for the old Appalachia and progressed Appalachia.

The human themselves seems to be from Vault 79 (that looks like will be added to Toxic Valley) and probably also people from other regions, which would be logical for the story to go that way that outsiders know the region is only occupied by Vault 76 Dwellers.

Spoiler

zXfMv6a.jpg

"People are returning to Appalachia in the massive free Wastelanders update! Year one of Fallout 76 was all about the opening of Vault 76 and players settling the Wasteland. In Year two, other humans are returning to reclaim Appalachia. That’s right – human NPCs are coming to Fallout 76! This huge update introduces a new main quest full of choices and consequences, and a lot of memorable characters with unique stories for you to interact with."

^ Copied this line from the website, which I think the trailer and the tweet have stupid wording yesterday. Human NPCs coming to Appalachia hints at a solid background with advancing story instead of being added for the sake of granting complaint request like what the public currently perceive. Epidemic FEV virus and the chaos are still valid lore and Human NPC is not what 'should have been there in the first place'.

Seriously. Currently anyone and their Youtuber Gods would sh*t on FO76 and Bethesda at any given chance; nitpicking and dissing anything this game and the players get. But they at least should have tried not opening themselves wide for easy strikes. ( ...because it will be the players again who have to deal with the circlejerk's hateboner sh*tposts again everywhere)

There is a shortcut button for someone to invite a player to group up, but you have to go through menu to accept the group invitation.

The system here is not the usual co-op games, so let's say you are doing a Quest or Event, and then me, Jollythecat, Anachronistic, SkylineMad, trip, Tchuck, Mexicola, OysterBarron are in your session, 8 of us can help whatever you do there. And if you were doing an Event, then 9 of us will also get rewards by the end of it.

Teaming up gets you EXP, loot, and shared Perk benefit from your teammate.

Whereas not teaming up requires you to hit the enemy so you get the EXP and the loot if they were killed by another player.

So let's say I were to stand somewhere in the middle of the map (away from any monsters), and AFK for 2 hours. I could come back and still be alive without having to worry about dying?

Or can someone train mobs to me and get me killed?

Edit: I'm assuming there's an auto-kick in place for AFKing, so let's say I tap the keyboard every 10 minutes. But besides that, stay in the same spot for 2 hours.

Train mobs isn't something that can be done, at least not easily. Most mobs have a range of action, meaning they won't get out of that initial range no matter what you try to do to get them out. Some mobs will follow you for longer, but even then. (there is an auto-kick for AFKing)

So you wouldn't have to worry about dying.

And even if you did, the penalty for dying is laughable. You lose junk items you were carrying (which you can use for crafting). You can store these at specific containers, that are only accessible by you, to avoid losing them to death.

I might add that if you're at your base then monsters can automatically spawn every now and again but can be easily dispatched normally only 3 of them though.

Was watching a stream last night of the new battle royal mode and allthough i found it interesting i also felt like i wanted to be a little sick in my mouth to what bethesda had done to fallout.

Well after learning all this stuff, the game does look more enjoyable than I thought, so I will probably end up buying it regardless of whether private worlds ever come around. I won't be joining the 7 day trial for now though.

Just got Metro: Exodus and Wolfenstein II for $1 on that new Windows/Xbox beta app, and they just hopped to the top of my backlog priority list. 😂

If I can convince my friend to join FO76 with me, I'll probably grab it next month.

Glad to clear your doubts! I really wish the people weren't as hard on the game as they've been since it was announced. There's a lot of misconception and misinformation floating around, perpetuated by some people who just really hate the fact that this game exists, and it is a shame!

Any more questions/doubt you may have, let us know! We're always happy to help people out with the game, and this has thankfully been the trend with the community as a whole. I was highly skeptical before launch because the game just sounded like a griefer's paradise. 70-odd hours in, and it's been nothing but really nice people. Even the few assholes here and there were nowhere near as bad as I had expected!

I would just like to add that this is a survival albeit survival light. You are subjected to thirst and hunger.

I remember working a long time on my first camp and I didn't have cards to help with the hunger and thirst when there. When I finished my character was dehydrated and starving. Worse bit was I got parasites from hunger and I didn't have any cures. So I kept starving even though eating almost everything while trying to find a cure.

Although I have only played 5 hours or so this have been the case so far. No one has attacked me and it's been great when people come to help on these events without asking. Of course they get the reward too. But still.

Only things I would criticize is that it seems like my character is thirsty all the time. Not literally, but I didn't expect this to be like Dayz. And yeah, I got sick from sleeping in a bedroll. So, it feels a bit like Dayz. But then again you can keep your weapons when you die and so on.

All in all it's been a pretty positive experience so far.

You should get the perk that increases the amount recovered from drinking water! It's extremely helpful. Don't forget you can also place your camp down anywhere, so you can always place the camp and place a collector while you're off doing your thing!

Also don't be afraid to visit other people's camps! They'll usually have water collectors running and you can just go and grab some water off of it in most cases!

I would suggest doing as many events as possible. A lot of them reward with purified water. It's been keeping me going.

I also suggest pharma farmer, scrounger and butcher's bounty. Those keep me going in stimpacs/chess, ammo and food respectively. Just remember to use the button prompt.

In other subjects

WTF?!? What is wrong with people. Were they really just waiting around for E3 to sh!t on Bethesda again?

Sure there'd be a disconnect between a community that supports 76 and others perception but damn.

I was getting all feel goods from.people liking the Wastelanders preview and even people warning up to NW and then suddenly my YouTube feed is full of BGS hate. They can't be upset because of no starfield or scrolls, it's well aware that they weren't going to show. Most of those idiots like Doom so it couldn't be about eternal. I refuse to give the usual gang of idiots clicks to find out what their fake outrage is about now.

Exactly what I noticed around lately...

Spoiler

I guess they're satisfied with the now dead Anthem, but not exactly happy with FO76 still flying around. These people are now in their full speed jet-powered hate train ramming on everything about Fallout76. Absolutely menacing. They would go as low as being a killjoy to new players excited for the trials or people happy for winning the NW mode. Combined that with all the constant bashing in FO76 topics, diligently sh*tposting FO76 news in social media, spreading false information, and siding with 900 hours dupers - with some insulting the alleged duper for spending 900 hours, is just... wow - I think this isn't about them liking FO76 or not anymore. This only reflects the majority of gamers nowadays being dogsh*t retarded.

Funny thing is that there is similar crowd when it comes to politics in my country. Indoctrinated by malicious figures, hate-fueled, bias, chaotic with their voice, defending themselves using the word 'opinion' but demand it to be taken as fact. Damn, all that left to do is going anarchy and these two crowds will be the same.

IF you are really sure that spot is free of monster spawning, then yes, forgetting AFK kick, you will stay alive. Probably dying from starvation and dehydration, but the health depletion is really slow it's unnoticable. Emphasis on 'probably' because I've never been dying from parched/famished status.

Nobody can bait enemy to you. Rules been changed. Enemy now have area limit and they won't chase player aggressively to death.

If you don't want to keep moving CAMPs (I don't recommend it since it costs Caps), then try to sleep at Train Station. They usually have bedrolls around (one of them even have queen size bed) and they are safe to sleep. No disease. This is what I do to my secondary character; I just borrow bed and crafting facilities at train stations or at another player's CAMP.

Yes, in this game we eat 5 slabs of steak and 3 boxes of purified water. We are the actual wasteland monsters. If you just started, you can use that Thirst Quencher Perk thing for easier fill and slower thirst rate. Perks can be unequipped later on so don't worry.

Level 1 to 50 is going to be pure pain of survival. 50 to 58 should be easier. 58 and above, if you have decided your build and have steady resources, the game will be easy.

----------

So I jumped between sessions last night. Lots of new players. Many high level players also set up shops around Flatwoods.

I strolled around there dropping items like wasteland santa claus. Too bad I don't have the santa claus outfit or it would be like Christmas in June.

I just had to click on that vid of Cnet's hit piece. Not having read the piece but after the latest impotent rage I would say it's friggin accurate.

Funny thing is you can almost see the pattern. Like all off them were literally in impotent rage, they just had seen the word Bethesda and were just brewing about not knowing how to get angry bit wanting so badly. Then one video came out and the rests lightbulb went off. "There's out angle!" And the flood gates opened.

As far as I can tell, people are unhappy since Todd said in an E3 interview that people still play Skyrim and Fallout 4 years after their release yet have no monetization in them and that Fallout 76 was supposed to be their horse in the live-service race. Pretty sure that's what the hub-bub is about.

I honestly don't care about that stuff too much, most of my disappointment with 76 isn't even the bugs, duffel bags or any of that stuff anymore. I frequent No Mutants Allowed a lot and read what they have to say on lore and what the previous games did well and I find myself agreeing with them a lot.

Crass, ungrateful and wrong, even if the creation club is a joke. Yes the creation club is relatively new, not even existing until a few years after 4's release.

I won't argue against the lore breaks but it's done, I like the game and I'm moving on.

My playtime in 3, NV, and 4 are calculated in weeks...maybe even months.  With all that I'm not a fanboy by any stretch.  I just have a great wife and no kids.

When we come to how games handle lore and even if we just focus on FO lore I think we have to accept it's a lot easier to paint lore in a single player game compared to a MMO.  76 kind of feels like lore lite.  It is still very much FO.

For me, FO76 is a vault experiment being conducted in vault 76, and we the players are the test subjects.

Even if someone didn't like the game, they really should have moved on. :sigh: I was a GTA bigfan back then, but GTAO crushed me down. I've had my bitterness too, yet I don't think it's right to keep bashing on every GTAO related topics. What's the point? R* is business, they sell products. If I don't like it, I'll email them feedback or not, then just quit. They don't need me, I don't need them, and there's always something else for me to do/use. More peace to me and the userbase.

We'll see if Wastelander going to advance the PipBoy date since they're going to continue the main story.

----------------------

Story from the Newballachia:

Last night I spawned in Flatwoods from the previous game session. Scorched attacked, got some level 5 weapons and decided to mod them to give away with bonus Assaultron Helmet to anyone that I think has a face that fits the helmet. Then, I visited this level 3 player wandering alone and yet he chopped me with machete. First chop was okay, probably misunderstanding. But after the second, third, fourth, fifth chops, well, bad luck he got no gift. That went to another player defending his Workshop instead and a couple exploring Gauley Mine.

Not having completed the story (lol) the overseer was instructed to secure the nuke sites, she never said anything about what we were to do with it, I'm sure Vault-Tec didn't know about SBs when they gave her her orders.

I speculate we were to secure them for the other vault's use. Whatever vault the npcs were coming out of in the trailer. Originally thought it be 96 but we know now that's for a raid.

So I played my 2nd match of NW just now. Mainly to see if overseer rank was profile based or character based. I heard the cosmetic rewards were profile so I was hopeful. Nope, character based. Guess I need a NW specific character. I'll have to think that over.

I was blessed with stupid teammates. I watched MATN NW video and he said people had tended to spawn on names locations.

First match my team wanted to spawn in Helvetia. Well my time in Fasnacht taught me there was camp site up on the ridge South of there. I got me a scoped lever rifle.

The ring pushed us south and we ended up at the resort cabins where my team got butchered.

The ring pushed me to Sutton where I heard a PA clunking around. My idiot self pushed in as opposed to sniping from the hill. Dead.

2nd round was where I was blessed with stupid teammates. They wanted to spawn on camp McClintock. I set my spawn just outside of it. That short reveal before spawning literally showed enemies spawning on each of them.

I didn't even realize I was at the barracks, that was a good pick. Got a few weapons, automatic combat, scoped pipe and crossbow. I drew my auto and went to meet up with my team.

They were engaged with the others at the commie test area. They charged one guy inside while I shot from outside, only for them to slaughtered by someone from behind.

I charged at him and we ducked and weaved until he finally went down. I was almost dead too but I had am expired stimpac. Needless to say I had plenty of loot to choose from. Scoped lever, automatic radium, marine armor.

Now the reason why I said I was blessed is because I'm having a difficult time identifying players. If they weren't so brash as to get ambushed I might have never seen them.

I survive 2 more ring closures. Somebody dropped a nuke on the last one, covering everything but a small sliver of the remaining ring. I guess the person who launched it pops up on the map and I was heading right toward him. Somehow I survive for 30 seconds before I get cut down from behind.

I spectate a bit. I guess those nukes spawn npcs. They were attacked by a SB but it looked like it was weak as hell because it was cut down quickly. Anyways that team got butchered and the match was over.

I placed 5th in both matches but only got kills, 2 of them, in the 2nd one.

I'm just a sucker fot cosmetics. That's the only reason why I'm playing.

Speaking of which, because of my UK profile issue I don't think I can get Maxon's coat. Atoms have to purchased from the in game store and it says can't be selected even though I should have some psn credit in my wallet.

Mister Pink

OK, so I finally caved-in an downloaded the F76. I got a trial and was swayed after E3 and the promise of the return of human NPC's and improved dialogue trees.

Wont get a chance to play it until tomorrow night but I'm looking forward to it.

I hope you enjoy it. I bought it a week or so ago and I'm really enjoying it. It's good to see that Bethesda stuck to it, and made it better. It's not completely free of bugs and issues, but what game is right?

If it had released in it's current state instead of them rushing it out, I think it would have got a much better reception.

Cheers buddy. Glad to know there are others late to the party but enjoying it.

If anyone is on Xbox and wants to add me, please feel free. Think my GT is in my profile.
