I'm torn whether or not this is going to attract trolls. Sure even I'm going to want to play raider at times but I don't see the average troll wanting to deal with weapon maintenance, hell, battle royal people complain about attaching scopes to their weapons.

Flipside they invited fallfromgrace and seeing her jump around like every Damn BR twitchstreamer means they're trying to reach a broader demographic.

Got my Xbox beta preload all ready for Tuesday.  It looks and acts exactly like the stress test.  I'm guessing it will be the same.

Excited.

So stresstest and Beta are not exactly the same? You think the servers will be up 24/7 for the PC Beta, or also just 4-8 hours a day?

Who knows, beta can mean very different things nowadays.

It used to be the fully functional game.

Well sh*t.

Although I would see it as two things. First, like what you said. Or they just want to directly invite the potential asshole into the test and see how both the game and players cope with it.

Y'all got it all wrong, Todd Howard just wanted to make his own social experiment in a vault.

I can't download the Beta yet, i hope they give us time to preload it on PC too, hoping i can start preloading it on the 28th or 29th October, to be able to play it on the 30th.

I watched some more gameplay videos, it's horrible to watch these idiots, some of them are so hell stupid, i watched a video where a group of 4 ppl tried to kill a level 50 scorch beast (the flying thing) and what did the guy that i watched playing, he was walking around unarmed for like 15 minutes, this guy attacked the beast with unarmed melee attacks every time it landed. :facedesk:

It's german but you can just turn off the sound, pathetic how this guy plays the game.

What's the point in having all those factions if they're all f*cking dead to begin with?

I agree with your first statement, that it's a social experiment. So now they're so committed to "no human npc's" that when they sat down to write "the story" (Yeah, I don't see 76 having much of a story either) they found it hard to do so without the factions. Poor story writing imo they could of expanded on the lore but instead probably didn't think a fallout would be a fallout without familiar existing factions. Now they shoehorned the lore (I'll wait for the game to come out before deciding if the destroyed it) into it.

Spoiler

The responders clearly fill out the role of thr minutemen, they couldve continued along that route with the military without a command filling as the brotherhood, random surviving politicians trying to hhold on to power filling as the enclave (ok that os too much what the enclave really is) and just everyday people turning to extremes to act as a proto raider faction.

The way I see it now, with Skyrim still a handful of years away I'd wager that Fallout 5 will be even further away. They'll probably use this game to keep some of the userbase satisfied in their Fallout needs, and will probably release more updates down the road. Nothing stopping them from adding human NPCs or other areas next year or whatever.

I doubt that. As this thread shows there is a large very vocal community of single player fallout fans.

You know, I'm not a guy who collects every collectibles and secret items in single player game, I'm not a guy who study game stats mathematically and make insane builds in RPGs, I'm not a godly guy who drops special items for other players and carry them through bosses in co-op game. But goddamn, yes, I'm not sure why recently there are a major increase of gamers who are braindead enough to actually grasp the basic stuff (and then you know, bitch how things don't work, complain, spread misinformation). I don't know what the purpose of the players you mentioned. They might be just messing around or testing enemy hostility or whatever. I'm really not surprised to see gamers nowadays fundamentally suck in a game however.

Yeah I can see them doing episodic-based updates.

TSO itself is still going on. So I think whether the initial userbase bitching or not, new online Fallout userbase will be gathered eventually. I just hope it will be PvE heavy community. This game has a lot of potential being sort of the next-gen Borderlands-esque 4-man squad with more serious tone, glorious gore (which was lost in BL), and better game lore though arguable.

Anyway, I feel the vibe of the game now to be more like a social game where you can opt to kill something or someone else. Probably because of that idea of rebuilding with "ok, you can go anywhere and do whatever to build and kill".

I do like that you can just fast travel away if there's someone harassing you. Calms my PvE-loving side. And the fact that they deal pitiful damage means you have more than enough time to deal with the problem.

The best thing is a lot off ppl don't know yet that your off the map when you sneak, so if you get harassed by someone just get out of sight, enter sneak mode and then sneak away or get closer to him/her and kill him/her well if there is a bounty on him/her.

I hope.your gamer tag is hidden when crouching (is what I meant) too. Gameplay footage revealed that is what you often see first of any player out there. From hundreds of yards away, through dense foliage, it's a chicken beacon that is going to let even the most remedial level 1 (or in this case level 5) troll find someone to grief easy enough. I don't shy away from pvp but sometimes want to be left alone when I'm doing my own thing.

Excited for tonight's Beta!  Since they said progress will carry over to the release I'm wondering if my stress test progress will carry over tonight.  It would be nice to start tonight with a 7 level head start.  :)

E:

it looks like we can stream the beta.  I'll do my best to stream tonight's play.

I'm thinking the attackee is going to have an advantage in pvp as they will determine when full damage will begin (if you do not wish to engage make sure to start pacifist mode or the attacker can jump in front of your target to start pvp) The troll may stand in front of you peppering you with bullets but full engagement doesn't start until you shoot back, I imagine then switching to your highest damage weapon (cough fat man cough) and getting the kill shot. A smart attacker may do the same so the next shot is critical, both possibly holding a weaker weapon to lul the other into thinking it's going to go the others way, then switching to the big gun first to hopefully get the advantage from there.

I just read that explosions, ie grenades do not count as initiating pvp.

Spoiler

Makes me think that Bethesda had this mechanic in place early on. The earliest footage of pvp always seemed awkward with the portrayed player shooting back with only a few rounds from that heavy machine gun before darting behind cover. This kind of explains it. The limited return fire was his agreement to pvp and then he went behind cover to switch to his biggest gun to take him out.

Also calls into question the "explosions don't count" statement because he was attacked with a rpg. Either rpg explosions count or this "explosions don't count" is recently added.

Things I have yet to learn in 76:

(Note: things I have yet to see demonstrated. I haven't played it yet)

1. How does the whole "folding up"/ setting back down a CAMP work and how many caps does it cost?

2. What does stealth look like from an opponent's pov? (Need someone to observe someone else go in and out of stealth)

3. What's sleeping for and how long do you have to sleep to get the perk? ( my guess it's like the well rested perk but would like confirmation)

Moving camp is cheap.  The most I paid was 10 caps for a pretty far move.  It seems the cap amount is based on has far you move.  BUT... there is a pain in the ass with moving camp.  First off it is a pain in the ass to create a blueprint of your camp and even then when you set up camp and apply your blueprint it costs the same resources to 'rebuild.

Stealth is the same as FO4.  You just crouch around.  It just means your dot is not shown on the big map.   Looking at someone who is in stealth looks no different.

Sleeping is fun because it can be scary now.  Your health bar slowly fills and after some time you get 'well rested'.  You can totally get attacked while sleeping.

Beta was fun.

Glad you had fun during the beta and thanks for answering my questions.

I guess when it comes to stealth I wanted to make sure your gamertag disappears too. It wouldn't be very stealthy if you had your name hanging over your head.

Do you get any of the resources back when "blueprinting" your camp?

I don't know.  It took me a bit to figure out what was going on in the first place.  I have a very basic campsite with a cooking station, and a small structure with a sleeping bag in it.

To make sure my blueprint worked I moved camp and it all worked.  I moved camp again and all I got was the cooking station...I was going to rebuild(thinking glitch) and noticed I didn't have enough wood.

The thing is you can move your camp without setting up the blueprint.  I got in the habit of moving camp just to have a spot to store my junk and a reasonable respawn point to the action I was getting involved in.

These tests have been a horrible tease.  I really just need this game to go full blown or at the very least give us 4 hours a night of beta until release.  jeez...
