The best I can say is that at least they revealed it early, so hopefully at E3, they can spend far more time discussing whatever big new project they've been working on - rather than giving us another damp squib presentation like last year.

Better than a remaster at the very least imo, I'm skeptical about this as well but it definitely is very intriguing with emphasis on the vault and being set in 2102 just 25 years after the bombs hit.

Can't wait for E3 now.

It's definitely better than a remaster. If it would have been FO3 remaster what's the point since it's already 4K on X. It should be remake rather than remaster.

I have to say that I'm a little hyped but at the same time a little skeptical. Still, a new Fallout game is something I'm always looking forward to.

The only MP I want is optional co-op. It's there but you don't have to do it.

 

Rust sucks and I'd hate to see myself not touch a Fallout game because they copy that sh*t.

If they don't give me an option without PvP, I'll have zero interest in this game.

Online coop of sorts sounds like it could be interesting, and I did enjoy the settlement building in FO4 (specially after mods made it so much better). 

Hoping for some good news in E3 then.

The rumor mill says that this game will be "online survival" which are literally the worst 2 words in the entire gaming lexicon
Hopefully the full reveal changes my mind but this might have to be the first Fallout I've ever skipped.

Honestly, with how tired people are of the constant Skyrim re-releases, I think a remastered version of an older Fallout game probably would have been a better bet than an online game. It's like when they keep pushing The Elder Scrolls Online, when a big majority of fans would probably like a PS4 port of Morrowind or Oblivion.

Oh man yes. A remastered version of older Fallout would have been much better. Specially if it was Fallout New Vegas. Or a remastered version of Morrowing or Oblivion.

With all the big talk of #savesingleplayer last year, I'm going to be massively disappointed if they do just some bullsh*t online survival microtransaction game. Especially considering how the trailer looks like a classical SP Fallout trailer, with the radio zooming out and all that. It's like they're poking the fans right in their faces.

I don't mind a spinoff with online features but for the love of god, let there be a singleplayer mode that doesn't require an online connection.

And if it's online after all, they should've warned us immediately. If they make us wait like they do now, the disappointment will be unbearable.

Fallout 76?  A Rust clone....  That would suggest that it's SP and dedicated (and thus quite moddable) server based MP survival play....  Part of me is wishing they made a modern remake of Interstate 76 instead, now that game had a proper cheesy story that was totally intentional!

 

Not sure how I feel about this.  I love the lore of Fallout, but the timeline is only 25 after the bombs dropped.  Plus the numbering system suggests 76 is somewhere more Midwestern than previous games, so it will not directly affect the current canon too greatly.  

 

If they want a coastal location and water, expect 76 to be somewhere in the Chicago area.  It's an area never visited by any Fallout game thus far, so shouldn't encroach too much and provide a new taste and flair the teaser suggests.  

 

People notice the West Virginia mention within the teaser trailer song, but I suspect that could be a red herring, West Virginia would only really provide one type of rural survival game.  Fallout 76 would become The Forest, given the family hill clans and tribals that would likely have formed during the years after the bombs dropped.

 

There is a thought though.  76 is supposed to be a 'Known Control Vault', so no experimentation and no backup plans.  According to lore, they were supposed to open after 20 years and the Fallout 3 console does mention only 20 years.  So why the extra 5 years underground when it is in clear breach of the Vaults' mission?

I was really hoping for a Fallout 3 remaster, but hey ho. 

I just hope this isn't going to be some much more elaborate "Fallout Shelter" type of game.

Well, by watching the teaser you quickly realise most of the assets are straight out of FO4, perhaps it even uses the exact same engine with minor changes given it visually looks so much alike the previous installment. Nothing new it's a spin-off, but that means their efforts were not on the visual side of the game, rather a new concept, I'm sure.

 

Regarding the online connectivity, those folks from Kotaku came back saying it won't be an MMO in the style of Elder Scrolls, so hopefully this won't be the "downfall" of the series much like Elder Scrolls or GTA. It's really a case of waiting and seeing how it turns out to be. Given the references to Vault 76 in FO 3 and 4, I wonder up until what degree did devs had this concept going around, too.

 

Well, at least it's a whole new title rather than some HD remaster or a Switch conversion of FO3 or something, plus we'll hopefully get a 3D depiction of the outside world so close after the bombs dropped, if the online gameplay isn't enforced neither really limited or the central focus of the game, it can be a really good new concept that won't turn the series vibe to bananas.

A DayZ clone for console - that would be a dream come true for me. I'm just praying it'll be geared to offline SP and not MP.

I must say I'm wondering how the hell I missed Fallout 5 to 75.

Shame for those who used them, but although I dipped my toe in the water, they were never a big thing for me, so this news is no biggie for me personally.
