Take-Two CEO thinks lootboxes are an appropriate game mechanic

Also think about the position this CEO is in when this company has to compete with everyone else in the industry who will also capitalize on loot boxes. What with he say to his share holders, when he announces that they plan to scrap loot boxes to keep a few lowly serfs happy?

oh ya poor millionaire ceo

my heart weeps for him

Well this has put the final nail in the RDR2O coffin for me before it's even announced. I'll eventually play SP and leave it at that.

As for GTA Next, doubt I'll even buy it unless the gaming industry does a 180 turn. I'm not playing any game that has loot boxes.

It's sad to think the current GTAO might well be the last R* game I fully immerse myself in.

The take two CEO should f*ck off.

I'm not buying RDR 2, or the next GTA.

15 years of fun with this series, ruined because of this prick...

Take-Two has the best microtranaction you can hope to get with GTA5, and he supports loot boxes.

Why?

Because he's a f*cking moron that likes to leech off trends

Jumping the gun here.

He said loot boxes aren't something R* generally uses, and seeing how successful and well received shark cards are in comparison to loot boxes, I can't imagine Rockstar moving over to loot boxes any time soon.

All he said was he doesn't think loot boxes should be outlawed.

^ He says they've used it in the past and won't hesitate to in the future if the game experience is enhanced because of it (in their greedy f*cking eyes of course)

I haven't pre ordered RDR2 based on my displeasure towards R* and T2 business practices and treatment of fans.

I don't have a problem with the kind of microtransaction we have in GTAO, real cash for in game cash is better than loot boxes. I have a big problem with all gameplay and item prices being aimed towards enticing players to buy Shark Cards.

Even the CESP and "Premium" edition are aimed at normalising buying in game items with irl money by making it part of a new players initial purchase.

When I eventually get around to playing RDR2, I'll be buying a pre owned copy, I'm staying away from online. We know it will utilize microtransactions, even if it is a replica of the current GTAO model. I'm not starting a game that revolves around purchasing in game money or relentless grinding the way GTAO does now.

I'd be happy to be wrong, but everything I hear from T2 and Strauss Zelnick indicates that R*s games are going to be squeezed for cash as hard as the fanbase will allow. That means loot boxes will show up in some form eventually.

Unfortunately the fanbase seem completely incapable of coming together to pressure R* and T2 into changing course in the same way fans rallied against EA over Battlefront 2.

as long as they are optional, everything still obtainable ingame and they dont fragment the base like other games do, i couldnt care about any type of microtrans being in the game.

case in point, i have enjoyed this game for close to 5years and i have spend a whooping $5 on cashcards and this one i bought was as a thank you for adding the hunter.

apart from that, i have never felt the pressure to buy a cashcard to get ahead.

like i have said in the past, the cashcard system is not pretty, but is more effective and less predatory that pretty much every other lootbox system out there.

So I guess that's it. Rockstar/Take is becoming another sh*tty company like Ubisoft or EA. They had a good run.

Get used to it, it's not just Take Two pushing lootboxes out there, all publishers are pretty much jumping on this band wagon. It's nothing new, it's not like it hasn't been coming and it's not like a whole bunch of people predicted this sh*t a long long time ago.

Blame the player base who ends up gambling over lootboxes in order to have an advantage over others just to win a f*cking video game that was designed at first to entertain and not to addict in such a sick way...

Shark cards are ok for the casual player with no time in his hands, I can understand that, but loot boxes can go f*ck off.

Well to me online play ain't been that important in my lifetime of gaming and I'll happily move right back away from the gaming model. I wouldn't even bat an eyelid if I never play online again. Truthfully if SP games phase out which looks like happening I'll even happily retire from gaming and enjoy my multitude of games on various gaming systems over the last 35 years of gaming a lot which I never completed or even got round to starting lol.

It's no skin off my nose to turn my back on gaming be it SP MP BR or any other type and Im sure Im not the only one. To me it seems like there are 2 types of gamers the old skool been around a long time types and this new millenium want everything yesterday done for you type. If the money is to be made off the millenials then so be it but I'll happily step away. Im sure someone will stick to my market type of gamer anyhow, we made the industry and we all aint died off yet.

Even SP games have lootboxes these days, look at Forza Horizon 3 and WWE 2K18 (and look who publishes WWE 2K18, or who ultimately controls 2K games).

I don't see anyone here bitching about real life casinos, and minor establishments, offering people a place to gamble.

It may surprise you, but all the casinos were banned in Russia by a Federal Law in 2009. As a result, amost all the gambling moved to the Internet or took a form of sports betting.

I also heard that gambling is not welcomed in Japan.

The point here is that the attiitude towards the real-life gambling can change over time.

As for the Zelnick, I think he can consider every game mechanic as an appropriate. But the presented article lacks the context, the gambling is a very complex subject. Forr example, lootboxes may affect your performance (Battlefield) or remain purely cosmetic (PUBG).

No surprise there.

This is Rockstar we're talking about, the company that dares charging you 120 dollars for a virtual golden paintjob on a virtual plane.

And you know why... Because apparently we (let's say GTA players in general) are stupid enough to actually buy those shark cards.

If everybody would straight out refuse spending absurd amounts of real money on virtual goodies, we wouldn't be having this whole lootbox discussion.

If the loot boxes were similar to the system that's in the Division, I wouldn't mind it. They way it works there is you find 10 Cypher Key Fragments, which have a 20% chance of dropping off of named enemies and some caches, which then creates a Cypher Key that you can use at the premium vendor. Everything in the vendor is cosmetic only and doesn't change game play. Yes you can buy Cypher keys with real cash, but the option of not having to pay anything at all is there and getting Cypher keys is pretty consistent within the gameplay itself.

As long as the loot boxes don't contain items that are game changing or give a player an advantage, I'm fine with it.

The fact that new games have turned to bullsh*t, buy to win and all this.. It's completely turned me back to retro gaming, there's 30,000 maybe 50,000 games out there that you can download for free and many of them are better than current games anyway. Bullsh*t free gaming !: ) I would encourage everyone to look into either getting some old machines or modern FPGA versions of them such as the MISTer

No I wont get used to predatory bussinestactics. Getting used to it and shutting up is the worst you can do in this case.

I don't support companys who design their game around lootboxes. I'm going to vote with my wallet and give my cash to companys who deserve it like 4A games for example.

Whoa dude, quit with the salty sh*t. Who said to shut up about it? You have things way off, once again.

Nobody wants to get used to loot boxes however if current trends dictate anything they aren't going anywhere. Whine about it, refuse to accept it all you like, until people stop buying loot boxes etc. they will continue to be a dominant part of future gaming.

Like it or not, current trends dictate loot boxes aint going nowhere. Get used to them being part of gaming in the future.

^ I meant the "shutting up about it" more along the lines of letting the publishers/gaming companys do as they please without opposition.

I apparently missunderstood your post. It seemed to me that you tryed to defend the lootbox modell.

I agree that they wont go away any time soon simply because many people are stupid enough to buy into the whole modell.

I know I wont get used to it for the simple reason that I absolutely hate lootboxes. I'm not the type of guy who simply deals with something.

Depends on the design of the loot box, some I don't approve of others I do.

In general, I am not in favour of loot boxes. I'm generally not in favour of microtransactions or in app/in game purchases etc. I feel it's what will kill gaming for me.

Guess its time to drop Take Two as a publisher I can get games from.

Inb4 Borderlands 3 gets ruined with this sh*t, also RDR2 and whatever else they have.
