Now, this is, of course, only speculative and for the fun of a discussion.

But, let's assume Rockstar decided to have a complete reset of all player's characters.

Imagine, you log into GTAO, and you're met with the Create Your Character screen, where we once again have to develop our character's appearance.
As you progress, you realize that you are again set to a level 0 and all your attributes, like Stealth, Lung Capacity, Flying, Stamina, etc. are back to zero, too.

Not only that, but all your stats – stunt jumps, K/D, distance traveled walking, headshot kills, stores robbed, etc. were all set back to zero.

However, your money, your clothing, vehicles, properties – all of that has not been touched.
If you had $2M in the bank, you still have it. If you have Masks or a Yacht or a full garage, it's all still there.

Only the character has been reset.

How would a character reset affect:
• you personally – would you upset about it or just take it as it comes?
• your gameplay – would you be likely to stop playing, altogether?
• your general attitude toward Rockstar – would you hold it against them?

So, as always, just curious to how others might feel about a character reset.
Again, it's not something that would ever likely happen, but it's something that would be interesting, if it did - everyone leveling out and working from scratch.

Would be interested to read your thoughts. Also, I put a poll up for kicks, too. Cheers! :)

Upset/Stop playing/Question them more.

I like my stats, I restarted once before the transfer as bandits messed my original account up too.

I'd be furious enough to just quit there and then, and I'd have to be pretty bored to come back to R* games.

That said, as this and RDR2 are about all I plan to play in my free time and there really not being much other than maybe Minecraft on consoles that I enjoy. (Hate PC controls and mouse, lol). I'd probably sell the PS4 and get back into Football Manager and The Sims on my PC, again, Minecraft too, if I can stomach the controls, lol.

Too much good stuff, and probably to come elsewhere for me to be f*cked over twice and accept it.

I would be extremely upset and stop playing. I would send them a really sh*tty email then break my disc.

I have put so much effort into my characters as well as playing hours. For them to get deleted would be worse than my PS4 actually breaking.

If R ever deleted Alexa and Rexx we would all have to go down to their main office and have a GTAV disc burning protest.

As sad as it sounds, I'm quite attached to my character, the grumpy old f*ck that he is. We've been through a lot together. He's my representative in the crazy world of GTAO, and it's taken me five years to reach rank 799

I reckon that would be it, the cue to pack it in.

I'd be pretty upset, stop playing altogether and boycott Rockstar and Take Two.

I have almost 132 days under my belt with my character. All awards, all stunt jumps, gold SecuroServ statue, max clutter - basically everything there is, completed. I'm pretty sure that having my character and progress deleted completely out of nowhere, even if I got to keep money and properties, would still be reasonable reason to get slightly upset. This, of course, if my stats were never reinstated.

Not only this, but like Big Molio said above but with different words, you tend to get attached to a character you've spent so long playing with. Besides the stat losses, there's also the fact you'll never get that specific character back ever again, even if you saved their presets. The "time played as", rank and everything else is what also makes the character you play with what they are - not only their material belongings.

The fact that Online characters don't ever say a word at anything, with only subtle body expressions taken as a cue of what they feel or think at a time also allows the person playing to "fill in the blanks" and answer to different situations in their own head. Like old Bungie's philosophy when coming up with the Master Chief, silent protagonists open this whole door of opportunity for immersion for the people that control them. Their loss comes as a bigger deal than any other sort of character, in my opinion - which is why I care more about what I came up with for my Online avatar than any other character in previous GTA campaigns. Their story was written by someone else, people I don't even know personaly, while I got to write my own with what I created while playing Online.

Considering Rockstar's "love" to go completely haywire on the PC platform and just distribute bans "because we said so", complete lack of transparency in what is illegible to get your slate completely wiped clean as well as the absolute silence when it comes to giving any sort of clarification of why said resets take place, it's pretty safe to say that the question fw3 is asking has already crossed my mind plenty of times.

I'm all about prosecution of bad conduct by appropriate suspensions and evaluation of infractions, but the consequence of a complete wipe-out without questions asked prior is complete insanity and can never be justified.

I've put the two paragraphs above inside a spoiler because it sort of deviates from the topic's subject. Matter of fact is: you just don't reset someone's character and stats for no reason or justification. That is inconceivable. I also apologize for the continuous edits but more ideas just kept popping into my head, haha.

I would be a bit upset that I'd have to "create" my character again, knowing it would probably end up looking different than before (after playing with the same character for four years,I got used to playing as him). However,as long as they wouldn't touch my money, vehicles, weapons, clothes and properties,I would still keep playing the game,I can always max out the skill levels and reach level 120 and higher, and I never really cared about the stats.

Just go ahead and move to Five M. Or, I could start modding the sh*t out of singleplayer to add all the online-only vehicles to it. Try out all the new content as soon as it's added, and not 4 months down the line when R* decides its time to dripfeed it.

I mean sh*t playing from scratch again in an environment where basically everything has explosive guns, rockets, gun explosives, explosive rockets, rocket guns, rocket guns, and gun rockets... just isn't attractive. Back when I started I had to worry about Hydra noobs. Lazers. Maybe Buzzards. Now there's another damn 20+ vehicles to worry about and everyone has explosive ammo and other dumb sh*t.

I'd laugh of this sitation. I've put too much soul into my character and would probably stop playing GTAO and move to FiveM or modded SP completely. I won't lose much, because i don't really care about my character's money and level plus i don't really own anything, so the biggest loss would be just memories.
On the other hand, i got my character's face setting recorded, so even if i'll make a new one, i would be able to recreate this bald muskrat one more time.

I've had a complete character reset on an account that I spent literally 40 hours painting modded cars... it was one of the most beautiful accounts the world never got to see.. and having it reset !!!!!!!SUCKED!!!!!!! sucked like you can't imagine. I just left it sit there for a while, then collected a couple of Rockstars bonus's you know like the 250 thanks for nothing bonus's. Then I bought a garage.. then I GLITCHED THE f*ck OUT OF IT. Now it has several hundred million. But it still isn't pretty... So it still sucks.

If this happened to me on a normal account with normal paints that every joe has, well that wouldn't matter a sh*t because you can get that back anytime.

I'd be f*cking furious tbh.

I probably wouldn't stop playing, I'd either load my account with dupes or go back to my PC account that has enough money and Deluxo bonds to see me through to VI.

It wouldn't affect my attitude towards R* and T2 as my opinion is at a 20 year low as it is. The low effort content coupled with the nickel and dime approach has already put me off pre ordering RDR2, the first time I haven't pre ordered a R* game.

Can say I'll be bothered, but not terribly. The game feels dull nowadays and there is nothing I can do about it nor will find new breath in it even from a fresh start. The only thing that will upset me, I wouldn't be able to spent 10 millions for a trophy, that I postpone.

I will stop playing, rarely play currently, so let go. Or I'll make different character for tryhard gameplay in bs lobbies few times in a month.

It wouldn't affect, because the only Rockstar games I like are GTA, and GTA online not even the best from them. Don't see a point to fight for any crap, especially digital one:).

Indeed, but that comes when the servers close and I myself naturally move on.

Far different than being gazumped, IMO.

If there was a universal reset for all players I would accept the challenge and get to grinding again. If I was reset due to tomfoolery then I would probably have to find a new game for a few weeks until I got to the acceptance level of my grief. Then I would get back to grinding.

I'd be immensely pissed. All my cars, properties, clothes, money... gone because someone pushed a few buttons and that's that. I would not play GTA V or GTA Online, nor buy something off them ever again.

I wouldn't care about RP since I'd still have the stuff it unlocked, the stat reset would be slightly annoying but the important stats would be back at max through normal gameplay before too long.

The thing that'd set me off would be losing Courtney herself. She's the result of randomization 5 years ago but I've grown attached over half a decade...

I'd be so pissed I'd break the disc

Then never buy another C* game

Already waiting until RDR 2 is released before buying it, just to make sure it's not loot boxed SP

At this point, I don't care if my character got reset or not. Nothing ever matters in this game because, no matter how many times you switch sessions, you're always presented with the same kind of drama every single day.

I liked this game a lot when grinding crews weren't treated like vermin by Rockstar. I could be gushing about the amazing times I had between Heists and Lowriders, maybe even mention how I miss something as minuscule as not having your screen spammed with kill feeds in pre-Executives update Freemode. Sadly, Rockstar did start treating grinders like vermin when they became obsessed with micro-transaction sales, and as such, they gave the tryhards many destructive tools and tried to influence as many players as they can into participating in the carnage.

I had seen my crew die into inactivity because of the Kuruma garage method being shut down. I had seen whoever stayed slowly turn into the sh*tters that Rockstar pampers because, hell, what else can you do? Heists don't matter anymore because the crews dedicated to them became inactive, all the good moneymaking ventures are public-only with rewards for bullying anyone who dares use them, and the combat keeps growing more broken the more griefing toys Rockstar keeps sprinkling into each update.

Like I said beforehand, I am so sick of the game that I don't care about what happens to my mute toon. All my friends quit it, and all my crewmates abandoned it, there is nothing to do anymore.

I think I'll quit Online soon enough. Character reset will definitely put the end to my playtime, even if my belongings would be safe. It's pretty clear where this game is headed and right now I'm only playing because of people, so if the crew I'm in dies, I would also quit and just occasionally hop into modded SP to shoot cops like I did 10 years ago in IV.

I´ll be upset ... very upset .

GTA is one of the main reasons that made me upgrade my PC ... so I´d rather enjoy the game for some years than be upset or disappointed with R* ...

if it happens , I´d definitely be disappointed and i could play less (but I don t think i´ll quit the game altogether , at least not immediately) ...

and yeah it could make me think twice about bying another R* or T2 game in the future ...

I'd definitely stop playing. With 2 characters that are fairly high levels (774 and 302) I wouldn't want to go all through it a third time. But I'd still play Red Dead 2.

i would likely submit a ticket to r* support asking why my character was reset and i would be pissed.
