hugh750, i don't think so. R* has confirmed that there will only be one playable protagonist throughout campaign, which is Arthur Morgan.

Absolutely not, it wouldn't make sense. I mean if they want to let us play as John at the end of Arthur's story as a nice nod to the first red dead then that is fine. But no more GTAV switcheroo.

Nope! R* already confirmed that. Let it go.

If we do get a second person to play as I hope it is Dutch . I mean don't get me wrong I still like John .But rockstar have already confirmed that we will only play as Arthur Morgan.

When the time comes, we'll play as John Marston and won't look back.

But then revert to Arthur, since John Marston gets arrested and Arthur wakes up from a non-fatal bullet to the head before the final mission.

Yes I do. I definitely think we will switch to John at the end.

No real reason to switch to John.   Unlockable MP character again, sure; but a continuation of the SP campaign, like with Jack:  what would be the purpose?   There's very little that's likely to be interesting in Marston's story between RDR2 and RDR1.  Leaves gang with wife and kids and, well, Uncle (for some inexplicable reason), goes to boring old ranch and raises boring old cows until Edgar Ross shows up on his doorstep in 1911.

Personally, I think the RDR2-RDR1 interlude would be better served with an exploration of how Dutch got to RDR1.   Why, and where, did he suddenly hook up with Apaches when there's nothing in RDR2, beyond "Charles Smith," that indicates he had any interest in going  "Dances With Wolves?"  And why the hell were Apaches hanging around in Tall Trees and the wrecked steamboat, when their natural habitat would have been somewhere in Mexico?   Does that indicate Dutch first met up with them south of the border and started recruiting them there?  If so, wouldn't Javier inevitably have been part of that storyline?   Why DIDN'T Javier and Bill follow Dutch into the RDR1 campaign, instead of doing their own thing in New Austin and Nuevo Paraiso?   Could other RDR2 characters have followed Dutch to Cochinay and Blackwater, but maybe got killed or skedaddled before John Marston came looking for him?   Was there any truth to Javier's story that Dutch went to Colombia for awhile, or was he just lying to distract Marston?   And most importantly, how did Dutch go from styling and profiling in the finest gunslinger gear in RDR2 to looking like a drunk grandpa in longjohns in RDR1?

I'm with Mach1bud on this, based on the leak which has authenticity to it now we know the map is legit, though old. And that brings up my question: with that information leaking so long ago, could Rockstar have dropped that epilogue completely or rewrote it significantly at this point? If it was my own work that leaked years before release I'd be pulling my hair out trying to find a way to fix things so not to ruin the surprise. But it's not as if millions and millions saw that leak, in fact a lot of people on this forum haven't seen it. But Rockstar have certainly had the time to change it. What do you think?

I mean they were never going to dramatically change the map because it leaked, that would have been insane, but they've had almost three years now to rewrite the ending if they wanted to, so it's not out of the realms of possibilities.

No, I don't think so.

Dutch maybe.

I was thinking about a way Arthur could be playable at the end of the game is if he gives up a life of crime and becomes a lawman

Or maybe just "ride off into the sunset"  and whatever the f*ck that really means is up to the player

Those natives were (probably) the last remnant of an "anti modern civilization" posse that Dutch could put together after his prior gang/s (maybe more than just one) vanished. The last call for his personal crusade. His ability to get people to follow him is heavily implied since the beginning of the story. A true leader.

I was exploring Cochinay the other day and I found interesting things. Dutch's personal space inside the caves is modest, but still classy somehow. A couple of libraries there, proving that he was a cultured man, not only able to teach others how to read&write, but definitely located way above the average people of his time regarding knowledge&culture. I support that theory about Dutch being "the black sheep" of a rich/bourgeois family. Totally see it. I hope we learn more in RDR2.

About his overall bad, not fancy looks in RDR, it's totally understandable that he wanted to mimetize himself with the natives to a certain degree, the only people he trusted at that later stage. I guess he got to a point in his madness in which fancy clothes were the distinctive of evil: state servers, corporation tycoons and such. So that explains the change.

Very educated read of Dutch's persona....I like it.

Of course, we may well be reading far more into this than Rockstar ever did.  But I still wonder how Bill and Javier DIDN'T come to be part of Dutch's Last Crusade in RDR1.  You've got to assume they crossed paths again between 1906 and 1911, since neither Bill WIlliamson nor Javier Escuella really kept their post-RDR2 exploits secret and became gang leaders in their own right in New Austin and Nuevo Paraiso.  Javier's loyalties even come into question:   he's willing to rescue Bill from John Marston's vengeance ride at Fort Mercer and take him to (presumed) safety in Mexico, but there's no sign that he was willing to do the same for Dutch in Cochinay?   Then there's Javier's story about Dutch hiding out in Colombia....is that just a ruse to distract Marston and indirectly protect Dutch?  Or is it based on actual knowledge Javier had of Dutch's last known whereabouts?  If he's telling the truth, it means Javier was willing to sell Dutch out to John.  Even if he was completely unaware that Dutch was actually in Cochinay at that time.
