sudon't 197
Allow me to briefly explain the problem because, based on my web searches, it may not be what you’re thinking: Lately, every once in a while I’ll be playing GTA Online, (PS4), when I get a black screen message saying “Please Reconnect Controller”. The message comes from the game, not the console. My controller is certainly connected, as I can navigate around with it. I just can’t play GTA. This has happened with the controller connected wirelessly, and by USB. Nothing I do to the controller affects the problem. I can reboot the console, or even just the game, and it’ll work for a while, but the issue returns. I should note that I only have one controller in the house. The only other thing I can think of is that, recently, I created a new account on the PS4, and have been playing it. But, I am pretty sure this problem occurred before then, and I seem to remember thinking that maybe the new account wouldn’t experience the problem. But now I’m not 100% sure about that, since this seems like the kind of problem two accounts might cause. I don’t know. Any suggestions?
Tycek 4,563
Is there any chance you may check if the issue persist with different controller? I am aware that you wrote you have only one, but maybe there is a friend that could help you in need? Edited May 12, 2018 by Tycek

I am aware that you wrote you have only one, but maybe there is a friend that could help you in need? I’m afraid not. I really don’t think the controller is the issue, though. After all, it works everywhere except in the game. Nevertheless, I plan on buying a new controller today. If it doesn’t resolve the issue, at least I’ll have a spare. FukNRekd 1,655
I've had a couple of controllers do that so far. Seems to happen two or three times in 5 or 10 minutes then the problem goes away for weeks/months. No idea what's causing it but it's not the controller from what I've seen. I agree, the problem doesn’t seem to be the controller. Could it have something to do with having two accounts? Is there a way to log out of my “main” account, so that only the second account is logged in?
OgRatBandit 3
Yes I believe that is the issue. I have two accounts while logged into one the other still shows as logged onto PS4. Press the power button, it shows switch character. Switch to the one you want to log out. Then log out on the same screen. Restart GTA5 with current account. ( close application from quick menu then restart )
Ardymcfly 0
I have been looking at this post for a while hoping someone would have answered. Along with having the "please reconnect controller" issue, I have noticed that just before that screen pops up during gameplay. the bottom right hand of the screen will say the other profile is joining an online invitation to gta even though the other profile is not in use. Wondering if there is a profile setting to stop this bug ?
Savage Dragon 0
⚠️ It sounds to me that you have more than one account log in on your system profiles. PLEASE log off of all PORIFILES BEFORE STARTING GTA V. 👍
GLOCKS UP 0
Hey my game is doing that too. its not the controllers bc the game only has that issue for like a few days then it will come back months later for me. Also sometimes it will tell me that I accepted a job request then puts me in a blackscreen and I have to restart. It seems like a bug bc it just started doing it to me again when the Casino update started. Hope they fix it
PS4 DevotedManatee 0
Turn off PS4, unplug PS4 so that it does not save any settings prior, turn on PS4 log into wanted account and it fixes the issue :)
Penguinpsychology 0
Although I hope this problem has been resolved by the OP as it was posted years ago, for those that have this issue currently, it is related to having multiple accounts. The reason the game can't recognize the controller is because the app or game is already opened by the another user. Hold the Playstation button to bring up the quick menu and move to close application. Close the application that is previously opened by the other user and then reopen it in the main app page. Situation resolved.
