recently i've been dropped to single player or i've lost connection to xbox live, i close out gta online and xbox live is fine.

all other xbox online games that i play are fine (no lag or disconnects), and last night while i was doing ceo work with a friend who was in the same session was lagging.

but when i had the mechanic deliver my 9f after delivering some cars he somehow knocked down a light pole with my car.:lol:

If they are worse its probably because R* phoned it in and bought 1 whole server running on a boat in the middle of the atlantic during a storm and the sudden surge of people "playing" online it adding undo stress to the server

It has, yes. I can't get near other players without the game being seriously lag-happy, especially when driving to them. Guess even supercomputer-grade PCs aren't immune to server problems as a result of R*'s obvious incompetence. Even next-gen consoles aren't safe, though I could be wrong.

The only thing rockstar servers do is keep some statistics, doing some matchmaking and save your game.

Other than that GTA:O is peer2peer, so connectivity depends mostly on your internet and that of the game host.

Having actual dedicated servers would be a blessing from the heavens above. But they might cost R* a penny or two, so that's obviously not happening.

Nothing worse than a network error right when you are trying to kill a psycho who's chasing your insurgent down the sewers in a stromberg, he would have been like hahaha pussy!. I was pretty sure eventually I'd sticky/proxy him to death though.

They could have gone to EA route and charge players to use dedicated servers but thats too much labor for R*/T2 they rather just sell digital goods

We will be happy there's no servers eventually.. in 20 years when there's 100 players online globally and you want to have a look at all the stuff you wasted years of your life collecting, you'll still be able to get your game save off some dusty old pc under the desk at rockstar. You wont be able to say the same for an EA game that has dedicated servers.. price you pay for a good experience while the game is new.

Being able to fire up my game 20 years from now, or being able to play GTA:O right now without the modders and server issues.

I sure know which one i'd rather have...

Whats dedicated servers?

This is basically the difference

p2p-networks.jpg

For GTA:O that would mean the central server is managed by R*, and it would be fantastically easy to make sure it is performant, and to see if it's not being used for cheating.

With the P2P model we don't depend that much on R*'s willingness to invest in expensive servers, but it is also the reason why R* can't get modding under control, and server performance depends on the PC and internet connection of everybody in the network.

This is why there's enormous lag on a peer to peer, everyone has to send everything to everyone else. Instead of one direct shot to the server.

Short and skinny:

It's not R* servers that are causing your problems because they have no servers. It's your connection. Something on your end has changed.

Lately? I started having problems with regular connection errors, time outs, infinite clouds etc after I/E. It got much worse for me after Doomsday's release.

Even when I feel like playing in public it's sometimes not worth the effort to waste time getting stuck in the clouds or being kicked back to SP multiple times.

My internet is good by UK standards too and have no issues with any other game on PlayStation or PC.

recently i've been dropped to single player or i've lost connection to xbox live, i close out gta online and xbox live is fine.

Everyone told me, "Oh, you're using WIFI to play on the XBox? Yeah, that's why you keep disconnecting from GTAO."

So, I drilled holes in my wall, snaked a cable down to the basement, and connected the XBox directly to the cable modem.

I set the connection to Open NAT and assumed everything would be hunky doodle.

No. While every other game works just fine on my XBox, GTAO continues to boot me to single player, just about ever session.

CONNECTION LOST DUE TO UNKNOWN NETWORK ERROR...

I've been seeing this message since 2013 and while I admit, gameplay seems to be more extended now that I'm wired in, it's always inevitable that connection will be lost.

And it's always when I'm winning. Always. I think there's an invisible moderator watching, silently booting players who win too much.

GTA conspiracy theory #127.

Just pure coincidence this happens quite alot a few weeks before a dlc, brace yourselves for buses parked on top buses over the next couple of weeks :)

Or aliens could be to blame (X-files music) lol

Bad luck fw3... the only disconnects or session splits I've had since I finally took the trouble to run a cable to my PS4 have been when my whole internet connection craps out occasionally.

Definitely seem to be getting booted back to SP more often this week. My internet is very fast and I've had no issues with the other devices in my house staying connected. Who knows..

Sadly, even an ultra-fast internet connection cannot prevent R*'s shoddy servers from lagging to the point it crashes to desktop. Or to game menu if on the consoles.

And yet R* has amassed $6 billion so that's no excuse for them to not set up dedicated servers, or even at least fix their broken servers. They're are nowhere near as poor, they're just obviously lazy.

I've been frequently getting stuck in the clouds, having missions not load and get booted to story mode, walking out of any interior takes up to a minute, the game randomly takes longer to load up, and yet..... I keep coming back for more. Hahaha hah..... help me.

It seems that around 10pm every night that I'm playing I get dropped from GTA, dropped from the party chat and I have to reset everything. But when I'm playing other games, I don't have that issue. I played Battlefield 1 for about 3 hours straight last night, and except for a little big of lag, I never had any connection issues. But for some reason GTA Online always causes my connection to drop.

You can't blame "shoddy servers" because, say it with me:

THERE. ARE. NO. SERVERS.

The only thing R* hosts is game save and mission data which is downloaded to the players on an as needed basis. The hosts are random players in the session.

Kind of like the old saying,

"If you keep meeting buttholes everywhere you go, maybe you're the butthole."

If you keep getting dropped from sessions and connection errors, maybe it's your connection.

Also, the speed you connect with your ISP has nothing to do with the overall connection which may bounce between a hundred or so links in the internet. If any one of those drops enough data your connection will suffer.

Basically, you may have a fire hose between your house and your cable provider but if your link to the game session passes through a drinking straw in rural Idaho your connection will suffer.

The problem is from R* and not on the players end.

On our end nothing has changed but performance.

Same console, same internet connection, but now new lag and crashing.

The same happened on last gen where lag became a big issue.

There was only minor lag last gen until the current gen version was released in October 2014.

Performance grew worse with the release of the PC version and heists in 2015.

Our consoles and internet are not the problem.

The fix will come from R* releasing a patch.

doesn't R* run matchmaking servers?

Also as for one of your many analogies, maybe he's a proctologist and that's why he meets buttholes everywhere. :)

Seriously though I agree, something is up with their connection or it could be a platform issue. I have never been randomly booted to SP in thousands of hours online (hardwired on PC), I lag out sometimes but that's kinda normal for P2P.

Best visual I could find in regards to how the connection works.

So was this the best setup they could do in terms of reducing costs or ensuring connectivity or maybe just less work not having to run dedicated servers?

I use cable on Playstation 4 and after making static IP, ports forwarding and other Rockstar suggested stuff to stable connection I almost forgot about issues you talking here. It happens, but much rarely than before. Even here having PSN problems, GTA plays smooth.
