"1 on 1 at the beach" Why is this a thing?

Why is this a thing and whoever came up with it? It's dumb as f*ck.

It always seems to be high rankers that send that text after you kill them. It's as if they think all the kills you have on them don't count and the only kills that count are 1 on 1 at the beach. lol

They will text you saying your kills on them don't count because they were from a rooftop, a deluxo, avenger, oppressor, however you killed them...it doesn't matter what the kills were, in these strange folks minds those kills don't count because they didn't take place on the beach. Then they will proceed to call you a noob and a p*ssy etc.

A kill is a kill. Doesn't matter how it happened or where it went down. Aslong as you were killing how the game allows and were not cheating.

I like to play with these people a bit. I killed a high rank jet griefer yesterday with a straight RPG and he sent me that "1 on 1 guns at the beach" text. So i flew over in a jet and killed him with my guns on the front of the jet. He sent the text again. I replied "But i just came to the beach and killed you with a gun. We were the only 2 there!" He replied "That was a jet you A-hole!" I replied "You said 1 on 1 at the beach with guns. That was a very big gun. You never said what type of guns." Then i killed him with the jet a few more times. He got real upset and demanded i get on the ground. So i took to the ground, went off the radar and killed him in an APC. He then got upset i used an APC. I was like "You said get on the ground. So here i am on the ground. God, no pleasing you people is there." He then demanded on the ground on foot and guns only. So i got out of my APC went ghost and started killing him with explosive rounds. He got even more upset with that! Apparently neither ghost or explosive shells are allowed either. I know, who knew! Then he went passive and started hurling tons of abusive texts at me.

Another thing that's stupid about it is how a lot of high rankers end up at the beach and they all end up in passive mode scared of being killed anyway. Seen that a ton of times. Kills take place, high rankers get salty and demand 1 on 1 at the beach, all turn up there with their crews etc, then all end up in passive. See 7 of them all passive at the beach again yesterday.

Strange little creatures.

Those creatures are usually known as "tryhards". Their sole purpose is kicking up their K.D ratio which seems to be quite precious to them for some reason, like it's some sort of meaning of life or something. If the creatures you had encountered were seen wearing bulletproof helmets, strange looking rolled up combat pants with invisible calves, body armor, their hair dyed white, red contacts, and weird facepaints/tattoos then indeed you had encountered a bunch of tryhards.

In other words. the term "1 on 1 at the beach" dates all the way back circa 2009 when it was previously known as "1v1 me on Rust" (sometimes followed by "bitch") and used in the very same manner, originating from a well-known video game called Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

I have been known to dabble in the jet and I get these messages all the time. I assume these players cant fly and they are only interested in using dirty ground tactics.Though its commendable they are willing to take a chance and 1v1 you in a large open area. I dont accept these offers, well because on the ground anything can happen and I will not give a player the satisfaction of getting a kill but I can only guess there would be alot of ewo'ing, bst and suicide.

Its funny when Im in the jet and get the message, like Im killing everyone why am I going to hop out of my jet to go fight only you..geez Im tryin to grief over here lol The funniest is when you are the only 2 in the lobby and you get the 1v1 me message.

Tryhards don't catch onto stuff very quickly, so they often have only one part of the game they've perfected (wiggle sniping and blowing themselves up, typically at the beach). They are less at their element in the city, and typically can't use vehicles very well either (though sometimes they've put in enough effort to be "okay" with a jet, since it used to be so powerful).

Meh, they can go get a helicopter and 1v1 me in the air lol. If there's one of you and one of him, then it's 1v1 wherever it is anyway, regardless of if he sucks too much to bring you down in your current playstyle.

It's a spawn trap, the whole place is wide open without cover, if he's using thermal goggles and gets a kill on you he can spot where you will respawn before you can even move.

Whenever someone calls me for it, I accept it, go off radar and get in my Avenger.

The hydra tryhards have all migrated to the Deluxo now. Bad Sport has dozens of these buzzing about, all following each other round in passive trying to do that sneak-out-of-passive-for-a-cheap-kill on each other trick. Edited by Big Molio

The idea is that the beach is supposed to be a level playing field free from anything interesting like Terrain or Cover that could allow an opponent with less "Skill" to get a kill. True skill, as we all know, means who can strafe shoot the best.

Of course, even if one accepts that logic, the beach isn't even the best place. It has a fair amount of rise and fall in the sand and people always end up using the lifeguard huts for partial cover. The runways at LSIA or Sandy Shores would be better dueling grounds...

They're imports from games like COD and they want to play this game the exact same way. Out in the open, no cover, you always spawn right there - that way they can marksman shuffle you into oblivion, because that's all they do with 90% of their playing time and will almost certainly own you if you play the way they want.

So don't. I answer these messages with a simple "lol" and keep on doing my own thing. If you happen to have a friend with you though, it can be fun to accept, have your friend ghost org and get a tank, and then you keep the shuffler busy while your friend farms kills (though I give it 2 kills tops before the other guy goes passive and calls you a pussy). I can't help it - there is no one more fun to troll than people who always want to 1v1 with marksman rifles. I go out of my way to spam off radar, ghost org and the Akula at them until they completely lose their sh*t and start sending me communications-ban-worthy voicemails.

There's something positively demented about the fact that there are huge cesspools of tryhardism in a game like this one, even in the auto-aim lobbies. Makes me wonder why they even play this game when they'd clearly rather be playing something else.

They amuse me more than anything these days. Whenever I see any beach dancers I'm straight on Lombank roof to spoil both their fun.

I particularly enjoy agreeing to meet them at the beach then going off radar to Lombank roof or if convenient collecting my barrage Akula. That really gets the tears flowing.

^ yep. Also, if you have a lot of spare cash, orbital cannoning them is a guaranteed meltdown-maker. I had a pair of them taunting me yesterday and they went to their yacht, then kept sending me messages daring me to come after them (how stupid would I have to be to do that?). So I told them I was coming - then went off-radar, went into my facility, and hit their yacht with the orbital cannon, killing them both. That resulted in the most gratifying hatemail I've had in ages. (I hate the orbital cannon too, but there is no funnier use for it than the yacht defenses bypass, except possibly blowing up an entire car meet.)

I love the messages you get off the tryhards when you explosive snipe their Deluxos, after they have tried to rocket and ram you with them.

Fully justified. I still can't bring myself to use it after the free Christmas shot. I'm well over 100m and I still think in terms of "that took 3 hours straight of I/E grinding".

They seem to hate it even more when I put a bounty on them to avoid paying the insurance.

Because they need to prove themselves to you and the world. I like it though. Makes them easy targets for a stealthy Akula raid.

1 vs 1 at the beach is actually a secret message.
You see, you can't hang out at the beach without friends, so you're basically asking someone to join you, but don't want to let them know that you're lonely af.

Yep, pretty much this. And if your opponent is good with a sniper, you're gonna be respawning a lot, purely because they'll have more time to line up their shot and you'll have limited places to spawn in.

If you get a request like this, don't fall for it.

Only one part. Imagine playing GTAO like that? I don't think I need to go any further.

It's a thing because only way to win there is to out-aim your opponent. Lot of players have good reflexes and accuracy but lack the arsenal and general understanding of how to deal with GTA specific PvP strats.

I used to humor them but I largely stopped. Most of the players who issues these 1vs1's have really inflated and sensitive egos and seemingly live under the assumption they're pretty much the best player on the internet.

So if you have a tremendous aim, acquired thru a long and sad life of excessive gaming, and decide to demonstrate how you can mess them up even worse if you get to spawn-trap them with a rifle they'll predictably default to aimbot hackusations in an attempt to save face.

TLDR: It's like a pure test of stupid strength as far as general shooter skills goes. If general no-holds GTA warfare is ji-jitsu the beach is like the equivalent of arm wrestling.

TLTLDR: It's E-peens on the table, rulers out.

Yep. never never ever fight a wiggler at the only thing he's done these last 4 years :). Kill him a thousand different ways instead, that pisses them off so hard because they think the only fair kill in this game is wiggling with a marksman or sniper. The only other thing they are "good" at in the game is flying under the map in their deluxo as soon as you kill them a few times :)
