Best and worst storyline game

GTA V in my opinion. Franklin felt out of place of Michael and Trevor's story. Michael and Trevor could have killed eachother in so many occasions, but didn't. Trevor harps on about friendship while murdering innocent people. Johnny getting killed off so soon, The Lost MC, Ballas and Los Santos Triads playing little to no role, the main antagonists not even being that bad, the heists being more clumsy than fun, the unrealistic dialogue, too many pop culture references, having a very short story, having pointless alternative endings and so much more.

Hmmm nice bike

Johnny getting killed off

This was totally unnecessary. And I'm not even that much of a TLAD fanboy (I would have been more disappointed if it was Niko in Johnny's place), but honestly, it felt like such a cheap and lame way to try to prove that Trevor was "badass" or "scary." And it didn't work, because his character is a complete joke. He was less like the psychopath that they tried to market him as and more like a rejected Jackass cast member who turned to drugs.

Overall, I think V had the worst story in the entire series. It was too short for the amount of protagonists it had (only 69 missions between 3 guys? And some of the heist prep ones were pretty much "Pick up a boiler suit....MISSION COMPLETE" and I can't see how anyone can complain about some of IV's missions being pointless filler after that sh*t). The antagonists were also pretty lame. Steve Haines and Devin Westin were basically just douchebags, and then I completely forgot about Stretch and Wei Chang. I just felt that the story itself was not as well written as IV's.

I don't know why all the hate to GTA V right now, I remember when it firs't launched everybody was fascinated with the story and characters.

Personally I loved GTA V story it was unique and different, it didn't take it to seriusly and they're was a lot of fun between the character's chemistry.

Well on topic, For me Liberty City Stories had the worts story...

Which storyline of GTA did you like and dislike the most, exclude all mission which were optional for completing story

Personally, i feel:

  • GTA San Andreas had best plot
  • GTA 3 had the second best plot
  • GTA 4 had a really boring storyline

Moved to the Grand Theft Auto Series subforum.

I quite liked GTA IV's story - maybe I've been bitten by the nostalgia werewolf, but I found it to be tense and gripping in parts. There was true motivation. Having a choice of ending was a fresh direction for R* back then, and neither one were particularly pleasant. It wasn't a story in which everything resolved itself like in previous games. Instead, it was a display of how our actions have to be lived with after the credits roll, regardless of how you wanted things to turn out.

Worst story though? Honestly, probably III. It felt flat, and having a character as two dimensional as Claude did the plot no favours. It might have drummed up intrigue, but the storyline lacked personality because of it. Don't get me wrong, III is still a lot of fun to play every now and again but for me that's mostly because it laid the foundations for some absolutely stellar entries in the series.

People are going to rag on V's story and rightly so, it isn't for everyone, but I quite enjoyed it.

To be honest, despite its shortcomings, I enjoyed V's story to some extent. Especially the beginning where you play as Franklin. Repossessing cars for Simeon, hanging out with Lamar, etc.... However, story becomes really uninteresting when Trevor finds Michael, I didn't expect Trevor to react like he did, it made zero sense to me. After that you are either doing dirty jobs for Steve Haines or stealing cars for Devin Weston, while all missions you do in between are easily forgettable (there are some notable exceptions though). And combine that with low count of missions compared to its predecessors. Most characters felt two dimensional, even ones important to the story. Seeing how much effort is now put into Online, I think V's storyline is more of a tutorial than anything.

Like many people on this forum, I also think that IV has best story. Nearly every part of the story was interesting, but there were times were it felt boring and repetitive. Characters, especially ones that you can hang out with, have really interesting backstories. And I think having diamonds as plot element was great.

All 3D universe games have acceptable stories considering how old these games are.

How to know if a person is stupid

"GTA 4 was boring hurr hurr durr"

Stfu.

And this is why GTA IV fanboys are so toxic (atleast some of them), they can't accept other people's opinion

Anyway

GTA SA storyline is absolutely brilliant, CJ journey throughout San Andreas was really epic

GTA V storyline comes close, the trio journey was epic, but still can't top SA

I can't think of any worst one, while I'm not really a fan of IV clichéd story, it still has it's moments

Jack Lupino

Best story:

GTA San Andreas(in my opinion) but 4 is probably the objective answer

Worst Story:

LCS-Actually there was no story at all.You work as salvatores lapdog throught and you suddenly want to kill the antagonist who have no beef with you.

The story would have been better if Toni became the leader of Leones at the end and become king of liberty like tommy in vice city.

Best: GTA IV. Superb dialogue, characters that still feel fresh and interesting even after a decade. Just love everything about it. Except Manny. f*ck "the streets".

Worst: San Andreas. Just feels like a cheap Boyz N The Hood ripoff. All over the place pacing, overrated antagonists, shallow and boring protagonist where I couldn't give the slightest f*ck about him and his family.

Best: GTA IV, Vice City, and CTW.

Worst: GTA 3: Didn't really had a story. It was all about getting revenge. But it was still fun to play through. And secondly, San Andreas. Come on now, how can you go from a serious story about the protagonist's mom getting killed by his childhood friends to flying Jetpacks and getting fat all of sudden, you are in a gimp suit with a dildo in your hand?

hey bro maybe you can exclude that gimp suit part, because i mentioned in the topic info. that just exclude missions not required for storyline

Best:

  • SA: Really enjoyed the story, thought it was amazing (also, a bit off-topic, but I never understand why people claim the game has a OTT story when the two missions that can be considered OTT -Black Project and Green Goo- due to you using a jetpack are not even big parts of the story and if they were removed, the desert part of the story would literally go in the same direction i.e. CJ does some work for Toreno and also manages the casino).
  • IV: Thought the story was fantastic and well-written (slightly off-topic, but I found the missions to be sort of repetitive and really pulls me away from wanting to replay the story again)

Worst:

  • LCS: Found the story to be incredibly horrible, the protagonist was a blank lapdog and the missions made no sense (in one mission, you commit terrorism; in another mission, you mutilate a guy for not paying a bit of money; in another mission, you literally help the enemy- The Yakuza)
  • Advance: Did this game even have a story? (I know it does but it was so dreadful it makes LCS's sh*t story look like a bar of gold)

GTA IV and Vice City have the best stories. GTA IV because it has very compelling characters (especially Niko), a very mature and dark tone, good antagonists and interesting theme's. GTA VC because while simple, it was executed well and stayed consistent + Tommy is a badass.

Worst..While GTA 3 or LCS may be the worst, I think SA was the most disappointing. It just jumps the shark so hard after LS that I lose any interest of finishing it. Too bad because the first part is one of my favourites of the franchise.

TBOGT was sh*t too because it had a robot with no personality as the MC, obnoxious side characters, turned Ray Bulgarin into a joke and ruined the dark Liberty city feeling.

I never truly played HD era, but I played every 3D era games.

Best story-Vice city and Vice city stories.
Mediocre but not bad-3 and Liberty city stories.
Insane story-San Andreas.CJ was Ghetto superhero in it, thank god he never fly with spaceship to outer space to kicks some alien Ballas.

There never was awful story...

IMO SA, the storyline describes as if CJ's mother's death and groove members' betrays are tragedies that fall upon johnson brothers, emphasizing family love and fraternal love here and there. However, a foreman, who most likely had family, killed by CJ, for such a minor reason, is more unfortunate than him.

I wonder what would be leading if this was a poll? San Andreas vs GTA V for the dishonour of sh*ttiest storyline.

LCS is the correct answer here I feel, but it's also the easy answer so I'll gloss over it.

Next would be V. I won't go over for the 100th time my gripes with it. I actually liked the first 20-25% roughly, then it fell off an extremely high cliff. The whole 'a lot of people liked it at first' is pretty common for most games nowadays, too. The majority of players tend to overhype the new release to the point where they're making it seem like the greatest thing since sliced bread (cliché but it's clearly amazing). It's only months later where they're able to look at it a lot more objectively.

With that being said even in the first playthrough it never once reached 'okay this story is fantastic' levels for me, but I get everybody has different standards as to how well they rate a story. I have incredibly low standards as to how I rate and enjoy movies, so I won't rag on people for similar tastes when it comes to games. The game was still great and superior to 90% of the other open worlds I've played since, and Online was interesting for a good two years until they f*cked that to the deepest depths of hell, but that's for another topic.

The Ballad of Gay Tony wants to have a word with you 😛

To TBOGT's credit it still crosses over with GTA IV and TLAD and all the awesome GTA IV/TLAD bits are still present. It's the black sheep of the GTA IV saga, but not as bad as San Andreas and GTA V.
