I'm dumber for having read this post. How fast do you think evolution works that women apparently have completely different faces in the span of a handful of generations? Also, this just in: Red Dead Redemption (original or part II) is not focused on realism. It is based mainly on Westerns, which were themselves the building up of a largely fictitious myth of what the old frontier was actually like. Westerns in the 50s and 60s had men and women who looked very much like men and women of the 50s and 60s, not of the late 1800s (and I mean their hair and makeup, not their actual faces). They also, like this game, featured wall-to-wall shootouts and excitement when those events were actually quite rare even in the wildest parts of the Old West. This game never purported to be realistic. Wanting it to be is like wanting GTA to be more realistic and less like a Scorsese movie. Ah yes, who can forget the 50s westerns stars sporting rockabilly haircuts then the 60s when taken over by long haired hippies and beatniks. I guess what you know of history comes entirely from half hour documentaries, huh? Most people in both of those decades were neither greasers nor hippies. The fact is that Hollywood (and its foreign competitors) have always bent in the direction of current fashion. It's less noticeable in Westerns but definitely present, in the hair, the clothes and the makeup. It's their way to try to make their movie less dated (when it comes out), though it also ends up making the movie seem MORE dated later on. It's even more obvious in sci fi movies, often set in the future or on other planets/galaxies, but somehow still reflecting the fashions of the day as if through a prism. e.g. Han Solo and Luke Skywalker's feathered 70s hairdos in A New Hope.
