Do you still think canoes are an actual gameplay feature?

We saw that one canoe in the first trailer, it looked awesome:

 

 

 

but since then NONE of the screenshots have shown anything related to water, no canoes, no steamboats or any other kind of boats or even swimming.

 

The leaked map which is pretty much confirmed by now suggests LARGE areas of water:

 

 

So why aren't we seeing anything of how you can use canoes and steamboats? Do you think that canoe was just a cutscene?

I thought I read in one of the previews (or maybe one of the leaks floating around) that canoes would be included. With that much water and an island even, I'd be a little surprised if they aren't.

even if it is i doubt that you will be able to use it... In the screenshot you can Arthur or maybe it is someone else im just guessing its Arthur because of his hat. You can see him sitting in the front so maybe it will be only used as fast travel

I think they'll be usable. My hope is they work like Stagecoaches in the last one. You can hop on and take a ride or throw out the driver and control it yourself.

 

The fact that they haven't shown much at this point doesn't really worry me. The first info blowout was clearly focused on showcasing how they've advanced the open world genre again. Canoes don't really fit that.

Or if you get too far out an alligator makes a meal of you or your canoe

 

I was thinking a scenic canoe "fast travel" would be cool. Similar to the way you could take a stage and not skip the ride but rather a canoe down the river

Don't see why not. Obviously the previews didn't show everything in the game, and there seem to be large bodies of water, and that penitentiary in the middle of the river/sea so I think we'll have rideable boats.

As people mentioned here, map has large channels of water and it would be necessary for already confirmed and important activities like fishing.

On the very least we would see canoeing on a couple of missions.

You don't "need" a boat to fish. I always sort of envisioned standing on the banks of a river with one eye on the water and the other keeping an eye out for bears.

now that's one time I appreciate my post being deleted. as I meant to say it's merely a homage to DEAD MAN, you know, that johnny depp "western". arthouse income, but you should see it. there's a famous scene with a canoe in it, just like the one from trailer#1 really.

I've not stumbled across any as of yet but every body of water I've been in has been pretty much neck-height for my horse. You can swim, slowly, not sure what happens to your horse if you go too far in but you can probably guess. I'm yet to see one.

Not only there is canoes but there is also rowboats.
