Is there much performance difference compared to SP on PC?

Since peds and so on are more sparse? Or does having a full lobby make it actually slower than PC?

In my experience, I've typically always had lower frames in Online compared to singleplayer. Even if I'm in a lobby alone. If you're plenty above the 60 FPS range, it's not a big deal, of course, but if you're struggling at 40-30... it can be rough.

It's not just NPCs that are cut down, of course. Rockstar removed a lot of props and visual effects, as well as did something with the weather system to change the frequency of certain weather events. There's obviously a lot more going on under the hood than in SP.

Well, my PC is beyond the recommended settings and i have way more FPS in SP than in Online, even if im alone in session.
Also crowded areas usually eats your FPS. Not sure if that's the same on consoles, but on PC for sure.

And as somebody mentioned, GTA can be just like Arma sometimes. I mean being totally random, like a guy with cheaper PC can have more FPS than you.

The FPS Drops in Online are CPU related not GPU. It's like having a ton of mods playing Fallout 4 and you enter the city area there you get CPU bottlenecked too if the mods add more enemies or anything ai related.

CPU related FPS Drops are the worst IMO because even if you have a good CPU there is nothing you can do about them. Mine is a little outdated already but it was one of the best back then. The only thing you can do is to give the CPU more space to "breathe" by changing the graphic settings to Normal or High. But that looks just ugly. Even on lowest settings you would probably still get some FPS drops if a lot of activity is around you with many players and sale missions etc.

Im playing the game in 1440p pretty maxed out all set to Ultra or Very High 4x MSAA and no Reflection AA and i mostly have my desired 60 FPS there is just one spot where i get drops to 53 FPS at night no idea why i get it there it's when you fly into the city near the Vinewood sign. Pretty much exactly above the Observatory or whatever that is up there.

I played in 2160p for a year or so with reduced Grass quality but i rather have better looking Grass now and i set it from Normal back to Very High. Normal looks just ugly but everything else looks great in 4K but the GPU's are getting to hot and i get some drops then. Yeah rather playing it in 1440p looks good enough.

Get the most expensive CPU and you won't get any FPS Drops anymore but nobody pays 2000 euro for one piece of hardware. Well normal ppl don't do that.

Damn the Core i9 CPU's look tempting if you can afford it.

You don't need most expensive CPU, any modern highly clocked intel with 4+ cores will do the job.

Yep GTA online will need a lot more CPU power than single player just because it's poorly coded and uses peer to peer networking etc.

My PC is quite old and I have got less FPS while I am playing GTAO.

like almost everybody already said , GTA Online uses most of your CPU rather than the GPU ... I can see how hot my (meanwile old ) i5 gets once i launch GTA , it s not the case with PUBG for instance (PUBG needs a good GPU rather than agood CPU ) ...

Yes, the changes could be dramatical in several scenarios. Hangar sources missions ran simultaneously by several players and CEO/bikers sales will seriously hit even 8700k. I'm playing on 4790k with 1080 GTX in full HD and in these scenarios are getting 10-12 fps drops and serious CPU usage. And my 4790k is not stock, it's 4.5. I suppose AI optimization is to blame.

Edit: now I'm on KB and can type more. GTA V is not really GPU demanding: 60 [email protected] full hd ultra could be easily achieved with 980 GTX with grass on high. Coordinated sales, that's another story. I used to play in dedicated lobbies and when there is no CEO chair and people are constantly moving around bunkers, coke, hangar stuff and cars, there is no CPU that could handle it at stock clock (maybe, some extreme OC will fix it, maybe not). 8700k offers more cores, but V won't use them as much as you hope. I jumped from 980 to 1080 and from 4690k to 4790k OC and sadly can experience drops in these scenarios. 8700k, DDR4 and other upgrades won't fix that, don't waste your money.

To sum it up. Even 4690k on stock with enabled turbo-boost is enough to provide 99% smooth gameplay at 60 fps FHD and, quite probably, QHD. Your position on the map, filed of view or any other obvious stuff won't matter, only big mass sales are hitting CPU beyond it's limits, especially if you're selling too. Basically, if you're hitting 99% fps above 60 you're absolutely fine.

Yeah it has to be more than let's say 16 players in the session and a lot of sales and other stuff at the same time to get CPU drops well at least for me. My CPU is like i said already a bit old. But yeah it still works fine enough.

Im waiting for the next or the one after the next generation of CPU's it is not worth it getting a new one well at least for me. Just a matter of time till we get DDR5 RAM instead of DDR4 and the next GPU generation already is confirmed to have DDR6 V-RAM.

It is not the best time to buy new hardware at the moment. It is better to wait for the new generations or else ppl will regret buying the stuff that is on the market now.

I always skip one GPU and like 4 or 5 CPU generations but i buy better hardware no cheap sh*t. :D

Well, I have 8600K with 3200 mhz RAM and fps is around 90 mostly, even with extended view distance at 50-100% (which is very CPU demanding).

You might want to check fps when flying low around city in a jet with maxed out view distance https://youtu.be/ouVQefW8Kd8

Let me guess you play in 1080p then it is no wonder you mostly have 90 FPS...

Doesn't matter as long as GPU handles your resolution, it has zero impact to CPU.

Zero impact to CPU yeah sure. You got a lot of knowledge there i see. :D

You know that the CPU feeds data to the GPU right? That's why it's called Central Processing Unit...

Their not completely independent hardware pieces. :D

Wow man, you ignorance and perkiness impressing. Cpu mostly sources poligons for the scene, then GPU renders it with adjusted resolution, adds fx, etc. Why don't you try low res first to see there won't be any difference unless you have full GPU utilization.

Hit player list button multiple times, it's Z for PC. Then it stays open if you in a plane.

Yes there is a big difference in gtao than in single player.. i battled with it a lot last year, until i finally realized it wasn't my pc.. it's just how gtao is.. (which is optimized for the 30fps target used in next gen consoles), so that's why it struggles to get past it consistently, it just wasn't properly coded for it. Also the game performs better on geforce than radeon in similar performance cards, the geforce card will run 20% faster than the radeon card, the difference it's obscene, only seen in this game with a value that high, plus the game also favours intel cpus over amd's of similar performance but not as excessive as with gpus.

Someone else above me told you how to do it, but i wouldn't recommend doing it permanently, because in a lot of interior areas you won't see the map properly, plus you won't get to see how far away is the marked spot on the gps or the mission.. just use z.
