"You are outlaws from the start"

That's true, and looking at it from that perspective I can understand R*s choice. R* obviously want to drive an outlaw narrative, and breaking out of jail/escaping from the law is as good a way as any to do that.

I just wanted the freedom to create my characters narrative, including it's origin, but I'll work within the constraints of R*s vision.

R* could add a special outfit to disguise yourself as the law and operate outside towns.

If you are near lawmen, some of them might be dumb to think you're with them while others will start asking questions.

We'll just get the lawmen outfit from "Crooked Lawmen" mission 🤣

I think RDR2O map and environment is best suited for groups of players, something GTAO tried to do later (in a clumsy way) with CEO/MC's.

It would be cool a gang (crew) camp as your operation center with watch guards and all where you could launch group activities like hunting, robbing a train, rescue a fellow member from jail or defend the camp from rival gangs (something like MC activity stand your ground).

Red Dead Online wont release until the end of November 2018 according to Take Two's earning report, so what are we thinking here? Friday the 23rd or Tuesday the 27th?

Hopefully we're not waiting that long for a bug patch.....

I really hope that player character is not some speechless dummy like in GTAO, it would also make a lot of sense with emphasis on dynamic gameplay and NPC interaction this game has. Also I hope that wild animals will be present this time around...

I wonder how things will be with your horse, if the perma death will be present, what missions we will be able to do, if the player icons will be visible on map (hope not) and stuff like that...

I don't think permadeath should be a thing....

Other players are to be factored in, you know if some douche is trying to fight you he's gonna go for your horse first. Then you got to start that bonding crap all over

If it dies, it should be returned to the stables and the guy who killed it pays a small penalty. Much like GTA Online, since it's basically the same thing.... people are paying real money for horses. They shouldn't permanently lose them if they die, that isn't fair

I agree that in MP you shouldn't permanently loose your horse to other players, but I wouldn't like the insurance mechanic like in GTAO in RDO... not saying it's bad, just very immersion breaking. I would imagine something like that other players cannot kill your horse, maybe some kind of mechanic that you fall of your horse after enough damage is done to him by other player, but NPC's and environment can permakill your horse, so you still have the feeling of vulnerability and don't have to worry about the horse getting killed all the time by other players at the same time... We will see I guess. :)

I don't think horse permadeath will feature in RDO.

Apart from the obvious, horses being prime trolling targets, they will be one of the few big purchases available to us in game, due to that they will be, in the early stages at least, one of the main factors driving microtransaction sales.

Players like to collect, they'll spend money to collect, but there is only so much real money that will be spent on a horse that you could accidentally take off a cliff 5 minutes after spending $10 real dollars it, losing it permanently, or it getting attacked by a bear or whatever.

I just can't see it happening. Yes it's immersion breaking. But horse permadeath in MP is just too annoying a mechanism and too prone to huge numbers of complaints.

I think if your horse is killed it will respawn at your camp or a stable or wherever we keep them.

Yeah, if you can permanently lose your horse it'd just make people not want to purchase them.

Like I'd honestly probably spend actual money if they add the Undead Nightmare horses for October next year. Not really in-canon, but just a nice thing to have and a nod to the previous game like the mask being in Saint Dennis' pawn shop. I'd just want them in my collection but if I could permanently lose them I wouldn't bother.

I think you're right, people just wouldn't buy them.

Just take the Arabian horse you can buy in SP, it's a grand(ish) I think. I don't know how microtransactions will be priced, but for the sake of argument let's say that $1k in game costs $10 in real life. How many times are players going to take losing that $10 item before thinking f*ck it and either not playing or not spending anymore? Not that many times I don't think.

But forget buying currency, it will take a decent amount of time to make that $1k through gameplay. Are players going to keep grinding, over and over, just to keep replacing horses? Honestly, I don't think they will.

My opinion is that the ramifications of horse permadeath in MP would be too much of a turn off for players, regardless of how they obtained their in game money, glitching aside.

It would basically be like if in the earlier days of GTAO you grind and grind for that Adder, get it all chromed out, pink neons, dollar rims, the whole nine yards. Then you put it in the water 5 minutes after leaving LSC. Say goodbye to your car, money and hours of grinding.

As a MP mechanism it just doesn't work.

I wonder if there will be house/cabin/ranch building.

End game spoilers...

Similar to what we seen in John's chapters with going to the lumber yard and picking out a prefab house ect.

During that mission my mind went straight to online features.

0% chance of owned horse permadeath. They'll respawn to our Stabled roster and we'll probably be able to carry the magical Horse Reviver medicine from singleplayer as well. I think the only real question is how much of a temporary setback a dead horse will be. Of course we'll be able to jack NPC mounts and maybe tame wild horses, but will we need to make our way to the nearest stable or owned property to remount, or will there be an ancestor of Johnny on the Spot who can bring one to the nearest trail for us?

Personally I love the later release dates for online.

It gives everyone a chance to get the game, and take their time enjoying the fantastic story and single player mode that they spent so much time putting together.

As opposed to players going straight into online to get a head start on everyone else, or all of us rushing through the story and not enjoying it because we want to get to online.

Now we can savor it, take our time and learn the entire world. I still haven't finished the story and I got it at 12am when it launched. Some people didn't get it at launch.

I'm predicting they don't let it go past Black Friday. Possibly they release it that Tuesday before Thanksgiving to hype up for Black Friday.

32 players for online multiplayer?  Damn, that means fast travel, smaller map or both.   Let's hope I'm wrong.

I really hope that playing through chapter 1 as a whole is needed if you want to play Online. Let's keep the braindead people who only touch the first mission out this time, we don't need a level 20 getting trigger happy and ruining a bank job cause he can't stay under cover.

And I bet we'll be able to buy perfect pelts..... like we SHOULD have the option in SP. I don't see them keeping priced stuff locked behind crafting without a work around. Perfect pelts will really be a pain to get, especially those damn small creatures since deadeye can't stop time

Hadn't seen this more-or-less confirmed - it's a bit BS, frankly. :/

Even GTAO, with the whole point of the GTA series being that you are a professional criminal, they* at least gave us a really generic introduction to the world, which let us fill in the blanks however we wanted. You fly in to Los Santos, Lamar meets you at the airport, introduces you to the extra-legal side of things in town, and you gradually attract the attention of more prominent criminal contacts as you progress.

Meanwhile, here's a game where they've said there's room to be something other than an outlaw, where there's supposed to be more of an emphasis on "role-play and morality", and yet apparently we're all going to start off as outlaws whether we want to or not. Welp. :turn:

*...this is one of those 'Benzies vs. Sarwar' moments for me, though - because I'm reminded that Sarwar recently said that they're drawing upon the more narrative-based side of GTAO updates like Doomsday Heist and After Hours for RDO, which is a far cry from Benzies' more 'what you choose do be/do is up to you' approach. I'm not a big fan of how GTAO has increasingly railroaded players into all being the same kind of criminal, all doing the same very specific things, and to hell with things like personal taste/style.

With that being the case, I'm not entirely surprised that RDO sounds like it'll be going down the same narrow, 'R* gets to define your character now, not you' route - but ...ehh, I'm disappointed. Now all we need is for them to do the After Hours thing of having a whole bunch of story-based missions that ...are only playable once, with no option to replay them (other than creating a new character, obviously)... :rol:

Without giving too much away from late game spoilers, I believe it's an almost certainty that Sadie Adler will be some sort of contact if the online portion takes place after the story.

I'm mostly looking forward for Online story-driven content. I expect that type of content will be deeper and lengthier than GTA Online given the fact that Red Dead is a story-driven experience first and foremost, which is also a statement made by Imran Sarwar in an interview. I could see, or maybe hope to see, hours-long stories to engage in with other players, or in some cases alone. I also expect to see the life cycle implemented in Online in that ambient NPCs and stores will follow the day/night schedule as in single player.

This is in the companion app file.

I'm pretty sure it's for leaderboards and stats, a feature to allow you check the stats/leaderboards of other platforms or combine them together.

Interesting enough, there are two types of stats (Ranked, Unranked).

SPOILER ALERT

Guys, after we finish the main storyline the game jumps 8 years to 1907 right ?

I believe that Red Dead Online will take place in that year, because when we explore the map in the 1907 timeline we see several houses for sale, those might pretty well be the ''properties'' that we could buy in the online mode.

And it also could be a good excuse for vehicles, back in 1907 the Ford Model T was already popular i believe.
