Deluxo, Stromberg & Thruster Special Vehicle Circuit Races now in GTA Online

I was going to buy a Deluxo on discount, but then I remembered that even with the discount it's over $3 million. Of course that's without the trade price, but I'm sure as hell not buying a near worthless facility in order to host Doomsday heist missions to unlock trade prices on vehicles just to get a discounted Deluxo, because that would cost so much more than just buying the Deluxo without the trade price. Hell, even if I did do that I'd be lucky to actually connect to any other players when trying to host a heist because my internet + R* servers = nobody ever joins my hosted games. I miss when you didn't have to host sh*t to get trade prices, it's like that with original heists, with original heists you can just join someone else's setup or heist to unlock trade prices on the vehicles involved with them(or does it just unlock the vehicles themselves to buy? I don't recall).

Obviously they changed it to this new method so people are forced to buy sh*t they don't need and play game modes they don't want to in order to unlock trade prices for mememobiles. I wish the Deluxo was just a normal roadgoing DeLorean lookalike instead of a flying douche cart with optional homing missiles and an absurd price tag. It would look so good in my vehicle collection, but it's just way too overpriced with gimmicks I don't want, so I guess I won't be getting one any time soon, probably not until they completely stop updating GTAO and I no longer have to worry about saving money for other vehicles to be released.

Just got a Stromberg too. Did all the upgrades and took it for a spin.

Great car IMO.

This thing is fun to drive. Handles quite a bit better than a Deluxo. The rockets are spot-on. It's so fast and quick and agile that it has a good chance of dodging missiles of you know how close it is. If it can't dodge them it can take them not once, but twice and thrice. And again!

Good money spent.

/e

Oh, and you can go in the water and shoot missiles at land or air targets.

/winning!

^ Stromberg is the most reliable Deluxo counter, although usually I'll just Vigilante it and take them head on.

Is the thruster worth the purchase? Does it make any ceo or mc missions easier vs the buzzard / deluxo?

Thruster stays around on your office helipad if you auto land which is really nice, can save a bit of time/money over Pegasus concierge. Other than that, the buzzard is probably still the best vehicle for the job.

The thruster I used in a race was painfully slow. How is the speed and quickness on an upgraded version?

Upgraded is pretty quick. All it gets is an engine upgrade so it is not to expensive to performance mod. I haven't tried it stock though.

Thanks. Is it fast like the buzzard?

I have tried most of my vehicles stock so I know what you mean. ;)

I believe the buzzard is a bit quicker. Don't quote me on that though. May want to do a bit of your own research before pulling the trigger on buying it.

I only did for the special vehicle races and just to have fun on in freemode.

Regardless of actual speed differance, the jet pack will feel very slow compared to a helicopter.

Custom vehicles are the only way to go in these races. I pull ahead of the pack and win 8 out of ten races, sometimes by 30+ seconds with mine.

Of course it may also because I know how to drive them having owned them for months.

Tips:

- you don't NEED to go through the middle of each check point and in fact you can completely miss them by upwards of 20 feet and have it still count. This means take the tightest course/straightest line possible while in special drive modes to shave SECONDS off your lap times.

- Stromberg: stay on the surface as much as possible. You travel 10 to 15mph faster on the surface vs fully submerged.

- Sea mines barrel roll you but if you stay moving in a straight line you won't slow down. Just avoid hitting multiple mines.

- The Stromberg is heavy and understeers at speed. Slow down and hit the apex for tight turns and you'll leave everyone so far behind they won't even see your dust.

- DeLuxo: flight top speed is 100mph. Hover is 110mph and wheels is 120+mph. If you have a choice between two modes choose the fastest as early as possible.

- Hover mode has a learning curve. Think drifting on ice with a large ball and chain attached to your rear bumper. Tap the steering & accelerator and get used to counter stearing. Just a dab will do you.

It's on par with the Buzzard and it's smaller so it's a good choice overall. I only tried it stock once and can't recall the difference with upgraded version. However, it's way faster than Deluxo.

Tried some of the races, not as bad as I thought but I can't say they're something I'm going to race a lot..

Same here but for 2x I'll do the Stromberg and deluxo races since I have both upgraded.

Do the mines actually blow you up (eventually) or just throw you around?

They do. Stromberg is quite strong but far from invincible.

I use hood view for 1st person cam and it seems easier to get through without hitting them using that vs 3rd person cams.

Is there a button that keeps the stromberg on the surface of the water because I have a difficult time keeping it up.

The Stromberg is great, been having it since DDH dropped. Recommended for those that hasnt yet bought it. No way in hell Im getting mememobile #1, aka the Deluxo. Or the Thruster. I just dont enjoy using any of them really.

I did buy a Blazer Aqua yesterday since its on discount because its fun to have to just goof around with. Could do without the pea-shooters on it. But anyway. Its faster and more agile than I expected/remembered, both on sea and land.

BUT it has to be stored in the batcave under the vehicle warehouse, AND it cant be transported using the Avenger or the MOC. Smh

^ Or used in contact missions, for that matter. Funny how special vehicles got that restriction but we've since got more deadly stuff that is allowed on them. It's a shame because I like the Ruiner 2k and would like to use it for those. The game really needs some tidying up to remove these sorts of weird restrictions.

As for the races themselves, they're surprisingly fun, especially the Thruster's. I was very wrong on my perceived idea of how those would turn out. I'll be playing these for a while, while they're double on rewards.

I sold my Stromburg. Never drove it, never going to play these races.

Thanks for reminding me I had it I guess, nice to have an extra 2 million...

The special personal vehicles need to be be recategorised as personal vehicles. In-line with deluxo, apc etc.

Had they made all stunt races like 'Plunge' I'd have far more enjoyed them.

I love that track!

How do you get in these new races? I have tried selecting Stunt Races through the phone and only get old stunt races. I can go to jobs and start one there as host and hope someone joins, but how do I get in races that already have people in them? Wait for an invite?

Go to stunt races then scroll down to find deluxo, stromberg, thruster. I think you can also get there by pressing LB -or- RB when the game is loading.

BTW, I've paid for about half my stromberg just from these 2x payouts. I'm in for over $825k.

It's amazing how many people do not have these cars and equally amazing how much faster the upgraded ones are than the stock ones.

I really enjoyed the Deluxo races. I thought they were pretty well done for the most part. The Stromberg races aren't too bad either, at least in my opinion. But the Thruster races...well, let's just say they've cured me of any desire to buy one. The Stromberg handles a lot better than I thought it would. Really grips well, and it's very stable.

These races are pretty boring but they have nice visuals. I'll give em a 8/10 for uniqueness

You can take a couple of hits and keep going. Three strikes and you're out (with a stock vehicle).

some of them are flippy, some of them are floppy!! hihihi i will play some of them from time to time... but to be honest... after playing them and then joining the active premium race "downtown loop or something like this", it was just more fun and intense, going fast and actually be racing quick around the track!!

transform and special vehicle races just can't get as intense and classic stunt or classic races in my personal onion!
