I've been waiting for the back to the future car to go on sale. Going to get one.

The stromberg races probably the most fun while the deluxo's are the least. As for the discount items, I'll be saving for another week as I'm not the PvP type. A week of I/E seems to be what everyone wants, as do I.

For a game that was released in 2013 (old gen) and 2014 (current) without being forced to into micro transactions and having all dlc relatively free I'd say I've got my full use out of this game. Could do without the ruined ear drums from people not using quality mics and the obnoxious background music but that's another story. The racial slurs are a bonus lol

On a side note: did r* downgrade all the performance out of every car? Nothing feels fast anymore.

Always has to that be one f*cking idiot stuck in the clouds and preventing the race from starting for everyone else

And it's always

Me: "hey, you need to restart the game. You're stuck"

Them: "Nah, it'll load"

Another "couldn't care less" week.

Maybe I'll just go for a couple of SV missions, but that's all.

Meh. Nice with the discount on the Stromberg. And I do enjoy 2X on special vehicle missions, but I would rather have some new toys to try.

Got a couple of World Records with the Deluxo tho.

I like the sound of the Deluxo when switching from flight mode to drive mode again and the engine roars :D

For me i like the races with cars the most, the jetpack races take too long i think and you cannot hear tires scream ^^

Disaster fail of a week. Not only did Rockstar do something that they have not done in a very long time, if ever before, held out new cars for 2 weeks in a row and now there are 3 weeks left for 5 cars, wtf? No, they will extend that to 4 or 5 weeks and push the next update to July, just like I originally predicted in February. I've never seen a company punch it's loyal customers in the face before, and how. I bought 2 copies of IV and 2 of V of full price. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ROCKSTAR GAME AGAIN.

Man these races suck so bad. They seem designed to highlight just how slow these things are.

Are these races bugged? I've just done Cresting and Plunge, not as host, customs, catch up and slipstream all on, but I was a lot faster than all the other players.

Not in a way that I was just better, I flew off the line and just kept pulling away, almost like catch up in reverse.

Anyone else noticed similar?

Using the jetpack for CEO cargo is really nice, collecting the crates in alleys and such. :D Just shooting the enemy helis can suck sometimes.

Very few people have custom Strombergs.

I despised these races. The Deluxo is fiddly and annoying and won't always switch. The checkpoints are the tiny ones. Some nice track design undermined by too many annoyances.

I would not be so sure about that.

Considering how they royally f*cked up the whole balancing, the banning incconcents issue and their utterly sh*tty bussines practics I'm too thinking that I wont purchase any of their future releases.

I did basicly the same with EA. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010) was the last EA game I bought.

Did you drive an upgraded car? If yes, thats your answer.

The unupgraded vehicles are incredibly slow and extremly hard to drive in these races. This can make you fall back +1 minute behind the race leader.

Im not even gonna try these races. From what Ive gathered it seems theyre not very popular, so I just hope R* gets a clear picture of this so they understand that no one cares for this sh*t and all their work making this stuff was wasted.

While they could have made something worthwile, such as fixing glitches and bugs, rethink their decision to put silly meme vehicles in the game, and realize that we need more interiors opened, more PvE content, more friendly activities, nightclubs, proper street racing, mansions, hitch-hiker random NPC encounters, wingsuits, ability to use drugs for various visual and auditory effects, stuff on the ocean and treasures on the ocean floor, proper triathlons and more jobs and activities that dont require a boring lobby screen or pulls you out of the lobby to do a job, etcetcetcetc.

Youre wasting your time on this sh*t, R*, and youre wasting tax payers, *hmhm*, shark card payers money! On doing sh*t that no one wants and not even cares to try!

Its a good thing I still enjoy some parts of this game so I guess Ill just play on like I always do. On a side note; Ive bought shark cards maybe twice I think but it was a while back now. I figured there was no paid DLC but Ive enjoyed playing the game so thought Id do right by myself and show my appreciation. And then they went and turned the game into this.

Im going to pre-order RDR2, play the sh*t out of the SP campaign but no matter how tempting I will never buy any equivalent of a shark card ever again. Way I see it will be; If I cant enjoy the online experience without buying shark cards, the online experience just isnt very good and does not deserve my money. Now, had GTA not turned into PvP-infested Saints Row I might still have been inclined to support them with buying shark cards. But, alas...

Had todays GTA Online been paid DLC, no way in hell Id have paid for it knowing its contents.

Edit: sry for the wall of text, I couldnt help myself once Id fired up

Skip!

Never been a fan of races, particularly those with special vehicles, and I'll skip this one. It's a shame, because The Vespucci Job for the last two weeks were intense and fun. It was the most fun I've had in the game on a long time, and the fact that it's an adversary mode surprises me more. Not to mention the amount of money you made compared to heists where someone will mess up and quit.

It worries me how much they're stretching this thin.

Yeah I had the upgraded vehicles, just presumed some of the other racers would too. But that would explain the speed difference.

Underwater especially in the Stromberg, you just motor past everyone else.

Haven't tried a Thruster race yet but I imagine race handling is worth a few seconds a lap too.

In answer to ALifeOfMisery's question, yes, there is something strange about the performance of vehicles, and I noticed it a few days ago in HotRing races. In one race I couldn't regain my position from 14th place even though the host turned catchup on, with other cars overtaking me regularly like I was driving with catchup on in the mid-field. I had no pace and the car felt sluggish and slow, I can't explain it. In another race, again with catchup on, the leader pulled away from the pack for about 2 seconds a lap and no-one could catch him, while I battled mid-field with the rest of the pack for the entire race. Catchup seems to engage intermittently at any point during the race, which I've not noticed before because I usually play in catchup OFF lobbies.

Back to the thread topic! For all the criticism on this page, and Rockstar's continuous tactic of marketing content that really doesn't deserve it, every week, some of the Special Races are actually quite fun.

Some of the Thruster races were surprisingly good! I thought they were going to be the worst of all, and even worse than the Rocket Voltic races - boost / wait / boost / wait / boost - but no, they require much more skill and manoeuvrability a bit like flying a helicopter through tight spaces, you need to slow down and use your bumpers to guide and turn the thruster, or just go for it through tunnels without making mistakes. It's nothing like the airborne sections of Transform Races, where you literally just point the aircraft through the checkpoints.

And the Stromberg races are quite good too. The tracks are designed with a lot of tight curves and hard bends that work to negate catchup and slipstream and give more skilful drivers a better chance, and you have to be prepared (but not too early) for the manual transition between road and water, and get it just right, although the water sections are a bit pedestrian at times.

I didn't enjoy the Deluxo races that much though. The cars are too point-and-clickey in the air and in the water, and all you need to do is guide the car home, although some of the races are good fun. Everyone seems to choose the Deluxo races on the selection screen too, which might be biasing some people's opinions against these races, plus Rockstar's decision to market something every week regardless of how good or bad it is. This is turning a lot of regular players off, and the amount of negativity on these forums is becoming quite malignant because of this constant push and the need to get new and exciting information on the table for the next shareholder's meeting.

So this is a semi-defence against an 'event' which isn't as bad as people are making out to be. It's nothing more than filler material with some positive aspects. That 'Kraken' though, deary deary me, and the comical-kiddie angle in what's supposed to be an 18-rated game. Cringe.

Sorry to say but this is just a prime example of how lazy R* is and the lack of imagination with their event weeks ;)

I should probably add imo but this is meant as a joke so it shouldn't be necessary

On a serious note, you actually made me really consider trying out the races so thank you for that, good review

Actually logged in a little earlier today to buy the thruster and I didn't feel like turning the game straight off again, so it might seem like I'm getting some interest back after a month of little too no interest for gta :)

I'm getting really tired of the Rockstar heckling on this forum, Kenmy. Not a good would can be heard in this thread, which is largely Rockstar's fault (you're right) for the constant marketing push EVERY week over practically nothing.

There ARE some merits in the new races though. I've never raced a Thruster before and giggled at all the nerdy people in wacky outfits thrusting their way around the map like it actually means something, and the racing itself was MUCH better than I thought too, but alas, so many people will never even try this stuff because of the amount of negativity being thrust in Rockstar's direction. Give the races a go and post your thoughts. Maybe it's just me, and maybe they're really dreadful though, lol.

Not sure what heckling means but I agree that there's a constant complain no matter what. If the event week isn't exactly what people wanted it's f*ck you blah blah blah meh.. ;) saw someone actually complaining that we had to much bonuses on racing lately, imagine that with a update dedicated to cars and racing. The world of R* is absolutely crazy ;)

The last two event weeks that had something for me was double money on bunkers but I haven't felt the need to complain if one don't count the joke I made in my previous post..

I'm not a fan of the special vehicle races very much because of things like the rocket voltic races, who has the best timing when the boost fills up again.

But as I said your writing made me actually want to try at least some of the new races because of how you described them and I'll post what I think when I've tried them 👍

We all have different opinions also so what's good/fun for some people isn't necessarily fun for others and that's what makes this game what it is, it have something for almost everyone

Cheap Deluxo and Thruster - Peach.

Races aren't perfect, but a couple were good fun. Plunge stood out early on, quite technical on the track parts. Enjoyed some good RP form a few records too, cash is good when full/top 3 as usual. I definitely need time in my 2 new toys though, lol. (Had the Stromberg a while).

Shame the GTX didn't come, wanted that one, gits.

Did a thruster race. Boring and slow. Are these things faster in FR?

Did a deluxo race. Meh, might be worth the 2x payouts.

Did a Stromberg race. Ok, I can kind of get into this. Underwater is newish and excitingish.

Prolly won't buy a thruster, but maybe a Stromberg. Just bought a hydra last night and it put me back under 20mil so I may have to sell a couple more bunkers this week to make up for all the splurging I've been doing.

WTF is with the transforming decision on rails? I decide when I want to convert, NOT the track. Ran most of these races last night, and got fouled up big time by a few of them NOT transforming me when Im pressing the button. Or then transforming me when Im not expecting it and causing crashes. Not cool. No wonder these races where so hard to fill half a lobby last night. If I want to drive the track for more speed in the Deluxo, LET ME, dont force me to stay in hover mode for those air tubes. One time I crashed because I didnt lift in time, barely tumbled over the ring, and landed on a platform. I drove off the edge expecting to go back to hover, and I fell like a rock into the water. Another time I went to transform to sub mode, and the car just stayed in car mode, barely moving and sinking, and choking away a 13 second lead where I lost that race. Hover and sub mode are just too slow to be exciting as races. Even worse when some of the lap times on these tracks are LONG.

Well I'm under the impression that these races were not designed with "let's give these guys some new races to enjoy" in mind, but with "how can we promote these vehicles in the best way possible to get as many people as possible to buy them".

Thats supported by the fact that it's nearly impossible to win these races without owning and upgrading these vehicles. People will eventually get fed up loosing and either splash some cash and buy the vehicles (or like me get so fed up that they no longer want to buy these vehicles).

I know I already made a post but I feel like I really need to make a more detailed and descriptive post about my feelings for this.

Like what people have said above these are just lazily put together adverts to try and spark the weaponized and special vehicle hype again.

And it's really nothing new, it's just races now with vehicles that were included in the last update.

This also sucks as someone who has a good amount of money and doesn't really need any more of it.

Unlike what someone has said above you really don't need to play this to see how it's just the same old races but with a different vehicle.

It's just Rockstar desperately trying to do two things. Stretching out the time of this update and to try and get the hype back in to weaponized and special vehicles

BOOGIEMAN219

Just bought the Stromberg and been killing flying cars and bikes all day long, so worth it.
