Xbox One X... worth the purchase?

Greetings,

Potentially returning player.

I currently have the base model Xbox One.

I am considering purchasing the Xbox One X so I could play Ark without the gane crashing(also for more appealing graphics...)

I am wondering if anyone here has gone from the Base model straight to the X? How has your experience on GTA changed? Does it look any better?

I tried looking up comparrison videos from the base model to the X with no luck.

The feedback is appreciated.

Don't bother if you don't have a good TV to enjoy the new graphics.

If you have and still plan on buying it, be advised that One X is NOT a next gen console, and I'd say that next gen should be coming somewhere around 2020.

Well, you at least need a display capable of running 4k resolution. Otherwise, you won't get all the benefits, and it destroys the whole purpose of buying the XBOX ONE X in the first place. However, if you don't have a 4k TV or monitor, I heard that 1080p will look better on the XBOX ONE X with higher frame rates.

What constitutes a good TV, especially for gaming? Well, low input lag (30ms or less), good refresh rate (60Hz or higher), 4K resolution (if you're intending on gaming in 4K), etc. I personally prefer monitors over TV's, especially if you're going to be gaming quite close to your display, like on a desk. This is because monitors, on average, have lower input lag than TV's, higher refresh rates, are less pixelated when viewed up close, have a nice, smooth matte finish on the screens, etc.

It's good to future proof yourself, though, so you can keep up with technological trends and advancements, since 4K will become the norm soon. Check out this article: https://www.engadget.com/2018/03/15/best-tvs-for-gamers/

A 4k display with HDR... the HDR comes standard on more recent displays (name from last year on). While HDR is not necessary it does add a bit more flare to the picture quality. A high refresh rate (hz) is a must.

If want to get or have a 4k display, the X is definitely worth the upgrade. If you want to see just how big the difference is from the OG Xbox One to the X, I suggest watching the Digital Foundry video on their Xbox review of Far Cry 5. As someone who owns an X along with a 4k display, I could not imagine playing FC5 on the OG Xbox One.

Is GTA on Xbox 4K compatible?

I never thought of getting a monitor.. that makes more sense for me anyways.

Are they generally cheaper than TVs?

I laughed at the good TV quote myself ;). 4k doesn't mean good, sometimes a CRT is by far the best option.

First of all, I never tried X1X personally. But there was a topic here with the similar discussion and the general conclusion was that you will get faster loading times, smoother fps in SP and a bit in Online. Now the funny part. There is no CPU on the market that may get you stable 60 fps when 3-4 orgs are selling hangars or bunkers simultaneously. I'm playing sale dedicated sessions and experiencing it on 4790k at 4.8 and at recently I got my hands at 8700k with the same frame drops from 60 to low 50s in the same circumstances. However, any other scenario is fine even on old 4690k i5 at stock frequency.

So, you're not getting native 4k textures, not getting stable 30fps most definitely and you're getting faster loading times absolutely. The decision is yours.

Ah I see. I have i7 6700hq with a 1070 but it's still isn't enough. I'm just waiting for next gen cards to come out to drop $800 on.

If you plan on also buying a 4K tv or monitor in the near future then by all means do it. To dumb it down think of it like dvd vs Blu-ray, if the tv ur using cant handle the new features the result might b a lil better at best and as stated above its its not an entirely new system. But for future games and if u plan on upgrading ur tv then yeah why not

Projection TV's are top of the line, imo.

I know this is completely off-topic but I read that as 3-4 ogres and for a split second imagined Shrek selling cocaine.

OT: Same boat as OP. Best friend wants to go PC for mods (me too and badly, those Fallout 4 mods are insane) but selling my current X1 and going X1X seems cheaper (the day I get a gaming PC I want near the top of the line stuff, not settling for mid-tier quality to play on medium setting - call me an idiot for sticking to consoles with this bad argument). Issue is I have to buy a 4K TV as mine is way too old to make the X1X a worthwhile option. Gaming is f*cking expensive.

More expensive, unfortunately. A 32 inch monitor can cost more than a 50 inch TV, for example, especially IPS panels, which tend to provide more and better colours than TN panels as well as better viewing angels.

For your decision on whether you should get a monitor or a TV, check out this article: https://mybroadband.co.za/news/hardware/145753-why-computer-monitors-are-more-expensive-than-tvs.html

As far as I am aware, it is not. The only tech improvements GTA V had gained was back when it was re-released for the current gen consoles.

I am in the same boat as you, I mainly play a lot of single-player games on PC, but most of my friends are on Xbox, so I got one back in 2013 to still be able to enjoy gaming with them.

When the PS4 Pro and X were announced I took my time with deciding on which to get, looking at specs, the X was more impressive, and while it is not massively more powerful than the Pro, the performance of games speaks for itself.

Here is the link to the DF Far Cry 5 analysis for X1X I spoke of before. They even compare it against the PS4 Pro just to give you an idea of how the X handles competitively.

Also, I am not sure what your budget is, but I recently purchased a new 4K television for the entertainment room (placed the older model in my room), I got an LG OLED 4K, and am blown away by the quality having had a Sony 4k and Samsung 4k previously.

For GTA, it's no different IMO. I certainly can't tell the difference on my Sony Bravia.

Only a small handful of games have had noticeable differences. Sea of Theives and Forza 7 mainly. I haven't yet tried Far Cry or Assassins Creed, very tempted though as I have heard they look much better on an X. I'm guessing most that are X enhanced look or play better (although not all do)

The console itself still suffers from the same issues with the dash as my One and S do - i.e. trying to play another game often results in having to reboot the xbox. Delay/lag when changing tabs and in my games and apps.

If you play or want to play any of these games it could be worth the upgrade.

https://www.xbox.com/en-us/games/xbox-one/xbox-one-x-enhanced-list

Even without a 4K TV, running at 1080 the X enhanced games look better as they do some special magical sh*t to the picture (according to the Major)

I went from base PS4 and Xbox One to PS4 PRO and Xbox One X. No real difference with GTAV besides quicker loading times and slightly more stable framerate. No change in graphics, even on a top of the range £3,500 65" Panasonic 4K HDR Premium TV. The TV and console will upscale GTAV from 1080p to 4K but it's not true 4K, obviously. The colours pop more but that's down to my TV rather than the consoles themselves.

Some games that haven't had PRO or Xbox One X Enhanced patches work better. Games like Assassins Creed Unity for example. That's playable and stable on the newer more powerful consoles. If you don't have a nice shiny 4K TV i wouldn't bother upgrading though. As for which is better between the PRO and Xbox One X? There really isn't that much of a difference. If i was to fire up a multiplat game on both consoles and covered the consoles up and got you to guess which was which, 99% of people wouldn't have a clue.

Lol at least OP won't be shocked when the salesman says he needs a thousand dollar TV to play his new current gen console.

Now who's gonna tell him about the pricey wire that plugs in those babies to maximize the resolution?

The wires aren't even included anymore LMAO!

Consoles are getting more expensive to run and they're obsolete upon purchase. Might be time to buy new friends instead.

I upgraded both my console and my TV to a 65” 4K Samsung recently. Yes the game does look better. Draw distances seem to be improved, and the city looks better at night, with all the glow from the city lights being a more noticeable aspect etc

Just to chip in I'm planning on buying an X and have the money saved from tips etc at work so it doesn't come out of our money...I do have a 58" LG 4K though and have to say it looks a lot better running on a regular Xbox one on this tv than the 48" toshiba HD it was running on before...also cables matter and not just the price...changing them regularly the difference is noticeable...in terms of frame rate even.

I'm not trolling !, lots of machines look and run smoother on a CRT, like I say you you have to match the TV to the machine you are using it with :) Go see how much a 20 inch Sony PVM costs.. plenty of market for them

This seems like a really sh*t answer but there's some truth to this. I've grown tired of the Xbox One and GTA:O as time goes on. Pair that up with getting two jobs I just didn't have time to play seriously with anyone. It's easy to find new friends other than those who you know in real-life. That's not to say they're replaceable but the void can be filled no matter what platform you switch to. The biggest priority when picking a platform, in my opinion, is what you want to play on. Years ago exclusives used to be a big selling point but now it's more on what you're comfortable with.

^ Not to mention with a good rig you can do a lot of others things. Anyway, reward your hard working self for busting your ass at these 2 jobs and get whatever you like honestly. PC vs consoles argument is deadborn.

And about GTAO, it's also getting old. So yeah, you should also expand your horizons.

They're quite expensive around here because there's plenty of CCTV systems that still relies on relic equipments and some still uses security tapes, so there's a lot of demand for them thanks to the criminality numbers and the constant need to guard our sh*t. Not sure why tapes though, seems completely counterproductive when compared to a CD or a hard-drive.

But by this comment I can tell you play on PC so meh, whatever.
